Pic from the web of the new Colt model CE1000 Expanse M4 carbine. Close up pic of the receiver, looks the same as the standard LE6920 M4 carbine, new published Colt price list MSRP of $699. Yesterday, 1/06/2016 Colt announced on their news media of their site a new model CE Expanse M4 carbine, together with new full size Colt Competition Pistol in .45 & 9mm, and Lightweight Commander also both in .45 & 9mm calibers. There was no details released but from the pictures from wholesalers and dealers it seems there is no grenade launcher notch on the barrel, no bayo lug, no front sling swivel, and no rear sight. Unknown are the barrel material, contour under the handguards, chorme lining or other, but they stated it would work for both 5.56 mm and commercial .223 ammo so the chamber should be either 5.56 mm NATO or even Wylde chamber. Anybody knows more info about this new model? Colt is also expanding it's upper half kit with AR6720CK, AR6951CK (9mm), and no handguards and no BUIS models AR6720CK-NHG, LE6920CK-NHG (16" M4 barrel) and LE6921CK-NHG (14.5" M4 barrel). Did they just re-introduce the 6721? View Quote No it's not a 6721, if you look at the catalog link that I posted just above and to the left side of this new model CE1000, the 6721 A3 Tactical Carbine is shown with bayo lug, front sling mount under the FSB, Magpul MBUS2 folding sight, and PMAG and a higer MSRP of $929. The picture of the new CE1000 Expanse carbine on the catalog has no bayo lug, no front sling mount under the FSB, and it seems that the handguards are the old CAR single heat shield type and not the M4 fat double heat shields, and it shown with a USGI Colt 30rd mag. I haven't seen the right side of this new carbine yet so I don't know if there's even a dust cover or forward assist, etc, on it. At least it don't have a fixed trigger guard like the 6900 Lightweight carbine that was discontinued. Maybe some members here going to the next SHOT show would find out more details about it. |

I'll believe it when I see it. Colt had a 300 Blackout in there catalog last year and it never happened. A couple of dealers even had them listed on there websites (Not in Stock)
|

Said it was 1/7 twist. Hopefully I can find a 6721 barrel for my C8 clone

A couple of dealers even had them listed on there websites (Not in Stock) View Quote That's right, some years they shown it on SHOT, and in their catalogs, also dealers sites but no show at all. Like in 2013 the AR15A4, the AR6720 LECAR carbine which suppose to be a short barrel with pinned & welded moderator for a total of 16" barrel length and suppose to have a special roll markings of "M4 Commando", an A2 lighweight carbine with slip over moderator FS with shorty triangular carbine handguards, also some other models have Troy muzzle devices, none made it except the AR15A4 the following year early 2014. Another info I found about this CE1000 Expanse carbine model from distributors sources that the dust covers and forward assists are upgrade-able, so these items won't have them from the factory but could be added later on. |

I'm just hoping Colt didn't follow the competition like S&W M&P 15 Sport II using commercial 4140 steel alloy barrels, that would be a deal breaker for me for sure. |
|
The new Colt Expanse has a 1/7 twist NON chrome lined barrel. There is no dust cover or forward assist, but the standard mil spec upper receiver will allow for those items to be installed by the user.

I don't see the point of this model.
Where's the Colt midlength? |

Any word if the factory would even line the bore with something else like Melonite, or etc, or just bare steel? Talking about the barrel steel, is it mil-spec 11595E or just regular commercial grade 4140 steel alloy? Got any info about the barrel profile under the handguards, Gov't or Gov't plus (0.700"+) or HBAR profile? 556Cliff: This new model Expanse is to go against the other basic budget models like Ruger AR-556 (MSRP: $799) and S&W M&P15 Sport II (MSRP: $739), etc. This model replaced the early discontinued old 6900 Lightweight basic carbine, remember that model which was not even made at the CT factory. I've not seen the new Colt midlength upper upgrade kit on the catalog or price list, but sometimes Colt just adds them later on the year on their site like for example the model LE6920MPS Magpul Slim Line series last year. |

The barrel material is 4150 CMV according to this article about Colt 2016 new models media day at Gunsite, AZ on Nov. 2015.

What's the barrel profile under the handguard HBAR, M4A1 SOCOM or M4 Govt.?

That low weight could only mean lightweight contour under the handguards. Colt Expanse M4 Carbine site link |

Any Colt fans here planning to "enhance his or her collection" with the Expanse M4?

Any Colt fans here planning to "enhance his or her collection" with the Expanse M4? View Quote I won't enhance my collection with this model but I'm planning to give it to my son and have him wear out the barrel practicing with his shooting. Then after he's good with his carbine and if the rumored Colt midlength upper half actually becomes available, then I'll drop the middy upper on his lower. Myself I'll just get a Colt LE6920 OEM2 stripped carbine (with shaved FSB) because I could build it quickly with my extra furniture from my spares storage box. |

I'll get one for my collection, but I'm still going to kick them in the balls when I get to their booth at SHOT.

Also are the hammers speed type (small match type) or the regular notched semi-auto hammers. Thanks in advance. I hope some enterprising dealers would create an upgrade and starter packages of (take your pick) chroming barrel, dust cover, forward assist, rear sights, bayo lug, extra mags with different quantities package, sling, affordable optics, cleaning kit, rifle case, etc. |

This gun should hit the shelves at $550, because that is all it's worth.

Any ideas when the Colt Combat Unit Rail Gun will be available from distributors?

Really great that Colt is reaching out with a new bottom feeder ...

Colt knows that every time somebody buys a ATI, DelTon, S&W Sport, DPMS Sporticle, Core 15 Scout, BCI, or any of the other $600 AR's, they lose a sale and market share. This project is a no brainer. |

Anyone see a LE901-SE or AR901-SE?

You guys talking about this Colt middy upper receiver assembly? http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_118/686527_New_Colt_Middy_s_.html We'll see about that, but you guys know sometimes Colt puts it in the catalog, shows it in SHOT Show, but never actually release it, happened many times, cross my fingers they actually release it this year. If not, I hope to snag that Centurion Arms new model M-Lok modular handguard for my 6920 carbine. |

Don't forget the SOCOM for those of us who don't have one . I get the entry level option in the current market it makes good business sense. What does not make sense is the lack of product offerings. FN took advantage of its gov contract with the military collector series. It would be very simple to change a roll mark and add a UID but that would make too much sense. |

Is Colt not making an M4 type carbine with a side sling attachment? I'd love to have an older LE 6921
SBR like they used to come with the side sling attachment, original 6 position stock, removeable carry handle and two USGI mags. |

I'd love to have an older LE 6921 SBR like they used to come with the side sling attachment, original 6 position stock, removeable carry handle and two USGI mags. View Quote Colt stopped having the mil type barrel mounted side sling attachment mount, detachable carry handle, Colt USGI aluminum 20rd mags, cleaning kit and basic black silent sling in 2013. They still have all those items on older LE6920 marked with "M4 Carbine" made in 2012, ask me how I know because I had one but I gave it to my son. Current Colt receiver extensions (buffer tubes) are true mil-spec with only 4 positions, Colt had a previous low prized model in 2013 which was the LE6900 that had 6 positions stock but those carbines were never made by the Colt factory. |

Is the lower receiver that same as the 6920? View Quote From all the pictures and videos we had seen so far, the lower receiver seems to be the same as the 6920 and also marked the same "M4 Carbine" "Colt Defense". The lowers have the weep hole for the front pivot pin detent and detent spring, same selector markings on the right side of the receiver, standard folding triggerguard, exactly the same as a 6920. The only thing we are not sure about are the hammer type. Is the hammer the same as the 6920 or is it the same small hammer as the discontinued 6900? We'll find out when they actually release them and have one of our members show it to us. |

Maybe they put in a stock A1 like my 9mm 6450 has.
I don't know why Colt doesn't install A1 hammers in their commercial lineup since they all have a web sear block? |

The new Expanse comes with a semi auto BCG, and get different fire control group.
The hammer looks like the one from the Anderson lower parts kit. It's not the same hammer though. similar style with no hook |
|
This whole thing makes zero sense to me. Why degrade the brand name with a cheapo carbine model when you already have models like the 6720/6721? That should be considered the "budget" model Colt rifle.
The companies who refuse to degrade themselves with budget buster rifles with stay at the top. |
|
This is not the first time Colt released a low cost AR model, remember back in 2013 the LE6900 Light Carbine (archived thread link below) which was worst because it cannot be upgraded with dust cover and forward assist, you have to get a new upper receiver (complete assembly or stripped), also it had an integrated triggerguard lower receiver, same with that if you wanted to upgrade to a better triggerguard you have to buy a new lower receiver.
This model is not for us experienced or enthusiast AR guys, it's for noobs that wants to try the AR platform and does not shoot frequently but only on occasions, and for guys that don't have $800+ budget. Back in early 2013 when there was the CT shooting buying panic, all stores are wiped out of tactical rifles, my local gun shop was also mostly out of any AR but had only one S&W Sport which is their budget model same as this Colt Expanse, I almost bought it because all the Colt carbines was all gone. I was not lucky enough that day because a young lady beat me to it by only a couple of minutes, when I approached the gun counter they were already wrapping the S&W carbine and finishing the transaction. The only time I would buy this Expanse model is if Colt carbines are very hard to find, and I will sell the upper half (at the Equipment Exchange) and build me an upper half at the lowest cost but the highest quality as possible.
