I have a NIB Pre ban model 6700 Competition HBAR, the barrel is marked C MP 5.56 NATO 1/9 HBAR. Is this barrel chrome lined ? Biggerhammer says the C stands for Colt, previos post on this forum say just the chamber is lined and not the bore. Anybody know for sure?
Let me add to this. My serial # is CH160xx. I have owned a SP1(1982), a Delta HBAR (1987), a HBAR(1989), a target sporter (1993) and a Lightweight(1992). All had a chrome lined barrels and it was easy to tell that they did. The chamber end was counter sunk and had a shiny 1/8 inch ring around it. The muzzle end had a shiny ring around the end of the barrel.
The chamber on my Competition HBAR is counter bored about .015 (so there is a step there) . No shiny ring around it. The muzzle is also counter bored about .015 . Both ends of the barrel are black, with only the bore and chamber metal colored.

Anybody have one of the Colt AR's with the 24 inch stainless barrel ? What are they stamped?

My reference, "Black Rifle II" says that none of the MT6700 Match Target series have chromed barrels. Mine doesn't. I don't know about the chamber––can't tell by looking at it, and can't find anything in writing that states that it is. My guess is that it is––but thats strictly a guess. My reference also states that all of the MT6700s were "post ban. A couple of the MT6700 models had pinned compensators, which made them compliant with the ban requirements.

If that is the case, then are you saying the people that have a Colt with a barrel that does not have a "C" do not have Colt barrels ?

Both my Sporter model and Law enforcment carbine have chrome lined barrel and chamber
all you have to do is look at it and you can see it. It is very easy to see it unless your barrel is very dirty.

My Pre ban model 6700 Competition HBAR, purchased in late 1993 did not have a chrome bore. Obviously, this was to increase accuracy.

I had one for several years and it did not have the "C"

That is when I first learned that some Colt barrels were not chrome lined.

So C stands for Colt or C stands for chrome chamber? Confusing.

My Match Target HBAR was marked exactly as mentioned above, and it was not a chrome lined barrel.

My recent production Colt 6700 is chrome lined. I could see the ring of bright metal around the bore/crown when I removed the two pins for that gigantic compensator. It is my understanding that ban era guns did not have the chrome lined bore...just the chamber.

Other current nice features that have changed from the ban era guns: Full circle M16 bolt carrier and metal buffer.

I have a 1993 Sporter 6700 Comp HBAR. I was advised by a person in Colt's Defense group that it there is not a "O" stamped in the barrel over the chamber area it was not chrome-lined. They used a "star" stamp in the 80s. I am sure someone here knows more that me on this.

Colt model numbers 6724 and 6700 do not come with chrome plated bores. Models numbers 6721,6731, 6601, 6551, 6520 and 6530 all have chrome plated bores. This information is from the Colt product specifications sheets.

I called Colt last year about help with identifying my Competition H-bar. I was told that the 6700 c was with compensator and 6700 was without compensator. Hope that helps.

The Colt 6724, of course, is a stainless steel barrel so does not have chrome lining. The current 6700s do have chrome lining as I have one that is chrome lined. During the ban years they did not have chrome lined bores...chambers only were chrome lined, along with half circle bolt carriers and plastic buffers. Things began to change in 2004 after the September sunset.
