Finally someone with a 308. How was it sound wise? Did you wear earplugs or was it ok not to?

If you seek to do battle with me this day, you will receive the best that I am capable of giving. It may not be enough, but it will be everything I have to give, and it will be impressive.

View Quote My opinion is the TQ “softened” the sound by breaking the sharp crack you usually experience and there was no ting or twang; I could actually hear the buffer and spring working and the sort of downrange echo you experience. Due to some years on the flightline with bad habits, I was wearing plugs and muffs during shooting so it could have been muffled even more to me. I do not think the 308 TQ is hearing safe, but I’m going back to the range today and will try it with just plugs to see how it sounds. Originally Posted By Imyourhuckelberry:

View Quote I read somewhere that someone melted his peeps on his suppressor so it seemed like the thing to do. I was seeing how fast the TQ heated up since it doesn’t have blowback and is shorter than some of its competitors. I was shooting at 82degrees so that was the initial barrel temp. A 3-shot string brought the barrel to 103degrees and the TQ only to 101degrees. A 5-shot group was 112/124 respectively and another 3-shot later was 89/115 and a quick follow-on 5-shot string went to 113/135. I was pretty impressed! Even with the stings to melt the peeps where I fired 10rds (after a previous 5rd string), reloaded, then 15rds, reloaded then my last four, the TQ didn’t exceed 325degrees and that was only in one spot; the rest of the TQ was hovering at 275degrees or lower. The heat dissipated quickly, I would estimate quicker than my SOCOM 762RC, but these are nerd data points so I’m not sure who of us shooting at local ranges would care. The lower heat signature means less suppressor induced mirage so will be a good thing when I get the tOBR out to 300 and 600yards. [/Nerdshitakeoff] Originally Posted By Colt_sporter:

He’s local to my work and I liked the idea of being able to drop it off and speak with him about the process. I asked he do some things that made it harder for him, for instance I had him tape off the insides of the top rail so I could get the black color offset to the gray and keep the rail numbers, and I had him tape the Xtran which, in hindsight, he could have coated and I could have had a decal made, but I like the job, the price was fair and I didn’t have to ship anything. I'm having a guy a Krieger make me a 6.5 barrel for the tOBR so I have to break it down tonight and ship off the upper, new bolt and other parts so he can do the fitting. Hopefully in a couple of weeks I'll do a range report on a 6.5CM tOBR! |

I took the tOBR out again today to get a video of the sound with the brake and suppressed. I added the video to the end of the OP.

So what's quieter, that SF you got on the table or the TQ?

Seriously though, I fired groups today that were just as good as yesterday's; absolutely NO POI issues yesterday to today and considering the continual removal of the TQ. According to my notes, the TQ was also about 125degree cooler than another suppressor I was using. Here's this morning's opening group, the TQ is making me look good! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v501/defender3va/Day%202%20Initial%20TQ_zpsxbsx9o27.jpg Did you touch the dials after this group ...? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v501/defender3va/TQ%20100Y%203SHOT%20FINAL_zpsckzqz6ly.jpg Yes, I dialed up two. |

I couldn't get Dan on the phone fast enough yesterday to LEPE. |

I couldn't get Dan on the phone fast enough yesterday to LEPE. One thing I learned from the Accuracy 1st video from a Larue order was when adjusting your scope, if it's only a click or two, move it 5 or so clicks past where it needs to be, then turn back to where you need it. It forces the springs to move. I've had problems with this in the past where I would move it a few clicks and nothing, and then move it a few more and it would jump to the 6 clicks mark instead of just 2-3. Tried it the last outing and it worked spot on. Every time it adjusted dead on. |
