I'm curious as the two are similar but have a few pros/cons unique to them.
Both you and Armalite choose the 260 rem for your new 6.5mm builds. Can you provide insight as to why? (This is a serious fence sitting issue for many of us as we decide to enter the 6.5 market) Thanks. |

Mark,
I know you probably can't answer, but what's the status on the .260? I'm dying to shoot one and I'm still hording ammo and reloading components. Been really close to using some of it on some 6.5cm stuff, but I'm trying my best not to. Also, I e-mailed you a question to an addy you put in another thread. Any chance you got it? |
|
|
....and while we're at it, why would you taunt us so viciously Mr. Larue? I mean C'mon, Those pics in the Variants section are some of the best porn I've ever seen. I mean you could totally jerk it to one of those pics. In fact, one pic, is my desktop background as we speak.
This is crueler then the FDE heavy release for me personally. Already have 1200 rounds and have never shot a .260 in my life. I also want to mention I will be in Texas in 2 weeks, to visit some family. Plan to do a hog hunt with my cousin-in-law. Definitely bringing my 14.5 tOBR to the party too. Please, dont make me bring my torch an pitchfork too All levity aside. This will be the first hunt I go on with a Larue 7.62, I really cant wait!!!! |

Well, if the .mil has made a play towards the 260 there is a good chance it wins the war over 6.5 CM as far as ammo and components available. Do you guys plan on making just the barrels available at some point in the future? |

Serious question, what question does the .260/6.5 answer?
I know nothing about either round. |

Add to those differences the wind drift and you have a winner. I hand load everything so ammo is not an issue. But as stated above, if the 260 gets more .mil interest we will likely see more options in factory ammo come available. |

Is there any 18" 6.5CM data ?

Are we expecting to have the ability to order a PredatOBR in .260? Or, are we going to only be able to buy the barrels/cartridges as standalone?

Yesterday at 381' altitude, factory Hornady 140AMX out of a 24" bolt gun avg 2795. Hit 900 yards with 6.8mil and ,8mil wind hold, 5mph crosswind. My app says 8.2mil for 1,000 but too many weeds so couldn't spot it to actually confirm dope. Take that guy's data and I would be 2650 or thereabouts without the penalty if any for a gas gun at 18" EDIT: also that guy's 308 175 is going faster out of a 22" barrel then a 142 out of a 27" barrel... |
|
|
What are we looking at for the other barrel lengths on the 260?
I saw the post saying 18 would be the shortest, so are we talking 20, 22, & 24 inch? |

I've never run an 18" 6.5cm. Just 22 and 24". I'm really curious what the shorter barrel can do, but still sitting on all my reloading components for whatever ends up coming.

Also, the fact the .mil appears to be backing the 260rem. And now this thread has pushed me to a 18" or 20" barrel....but leaning towards 18". I figure with suppressor I'll achieve a smig more velocity and it will balance out. 20" may be a bit too much dwell time. I'm now certain that a 22" or 24" would be WAY too much dwell and would require the XL version gas system....good luck finding the gas tube and a barrel maker to drill/port that. Also, way too long. 18" with a 8" suppressor (SIG) will be a long enough stick. |

From all the research I have done, It seems that the 22" barrel length is the "sweet spot" for many
308 Win. class cartridges which of course Includes the .260 Remington in the AR platform with a rifle length gas system length or longer...A adjustable gas system is the gravy on top in this case... With that said, a .260 Remington or a 7mm-08 caliber option in a AR platform with the above specs would make an "Ideal" tactical DMR type rifle with match ammo and a high quality optic, IMPO... I'm not sure what a LaRue cost nowadays with the above set-up...but, one can certainly get a nice rig from a Armalite rifle for around $2K, will it be as nice as a LaRue, probably not...but, it will still be a nice rig for those that have a tighter budget that can serve as a long range and a hunting rifle, (although, a bit on the heavier side for a hunting rifle unless it is used as a tree stand rifle or used as a ground blind rifle...). Thanks. |

Markkkkkkkkkk... I need a 260 or 6.5. Pretty please?
I have a few long range shooting classes scheduled in the next few months and it would be super amazing! |

Would love a 24" tOBR in 6.5 CM to go with my 26" bolt gun. Hornady makes excellent 6.5 CM factory ammo and it is less expensive than the FGMM that I feed my 7.62 tOBRs.
