To bring this thread back from one group of pro 2nd amendment supporters bashing others of the same cause because of the state they live in or are from......
I'm confused. I've always mounted all my scopes almost tight in the rings, brought my rifle to the range, set up a string with a weight on it at distance, leveled my rifle, then rotated the scope in the rings so the vertical portion of the reticle was actually verticle with the string as a reference. And then I tighten and proceed to shoot the shit out of the rifle with predictable and repeatable results. When in doubt, verify that the adjustments are tracking vertically (either following the string or make adjustments and track the groups)and drive on.
Never thought to check that the top of my Larue mounts are actually level, because that part doesn't fucking matter. The scope rings are rings, you rotate the scope to make the reticle level, with the understanding that scope reticles are not always perfectly perpendicular or parallel to the flat parts of the body of the scope.
Some people make shit way too complicated.
