LOL gas issue..... blames it on LaRue.... That doesn't look like a factory gas block to me

Doesn't match my experiences with anything Larue.
Extra derp points for Nuttinfancy |

PMC quality ammo? I couldn't sit through the whole thing. Bushmaster lower...what type of buffer? I assume he's shooting 55 gr and some janky gas block. My OBR doesn't like PMC either. But, it NEVER fails when I shoot anything else through it. This guy is an oxygen theif.
I've had no problems with my LT rifles, but his experience is similar to what my buddy has experienced with his Costa. These things are made by fallible human hands. At that point we all hope for quality CS.
I'd rather stare at one of my dillos for 43 minutes instead of watching him ramble about nonsense.
A shooting fan boy here and your idiotic NFP! You should sell it if you truly believe Rock River is better! And Wolf ammo doesn't belong in Larue rifles just like pump gas isn't going into a racecar or winning racecar!!!
I have never made it through one of this moron's videos. This further bolsters my policy to never bother watching one again.
"What we have here is a LaRue upper that I have reconfigured completely. It's not reliable. "
Maybe he should have just put it on a lower instead of "reconfiguring" it. Aka fucking it up. |
Both sides of the argument are derp-tastic.
The guys saying a LaRue rifle could never fail (anything can fail), and TNP for changing shit around then blaming it on LaRue. I do agree however, that a gun should be able to eat cheap ammo within reason. |

That guy is a joke, I'm not even going to watch that.
Larue for life |
I couldn't watch the whole thing but did skip to last two minutes. Did catch the part on a Bushmaster lower....
Poopy pants version of this same thread in GD. They have 5 pages already. Gave me a headache.
when the videos starts isnt it in factory original form? I didnt watch the whole thing, I dislike NutNFancy I skipped through it. I heard him say he sent it back at least once he got it back and then it wouldnt work in the snow.... he acted like light snow was a big factor. Anyway even if Larue dropped the ball on this multiple times, I am not saying thats what happened as I dont even have all of Nutns story much less Larues, but even if..... how does it take you 6 years to figure out your gas port is too small? I mean he changed the block why didnt he check that then.
Nope...rifle had already been heavily modified. I had to watch pause and rewind just to see if it really was a LaRue stealth.
Between the duracoat, the gas block, and who knows what kind of lower...this thing was self inflicted. And I doubt he sent it to LaRue in the modified way. Classic hit piece during shot show to get views. Classy. |
For the TL/DW crowd... I watched the whole thing.
He said he had problems from the start, duracoated anyway despite problems. Has had the upper for 6 years. Sent back to LaRue twice. Tried a few different gas blocks, all including the factory original had the same problems. Tried all kinds of ammo from Wolf steel to Nosler tactical. Solved the issue by opening the gas port just a tad. His conclusion was that the gun was under gassed. Now its very reliable and the most accurate AR he owns. |

View Quote Did you even watch the video? That is exactly what he did when he got it. He slapped it on a bushmaster lower, shot it, and had problems. He changed the gas block and 20 other things tring to get it to work. Six years later he took a risk and drilled the barrel to give it more gas. Now it's 100% reliable and most accurate AR he owns. |

Pretty a-holeish, considering the title. Forget the fact that it's supposed to be "worst", not "worse". If this guy actually had a pair of nuts, he would have titled it something less provocative like, "the secret to dialing in LaRue stealth sniper reliability"

Just finished my taxes and my return came out to the exact amount I need to buy "The Least Reliable AR-15 upper Yet", it must be a sign.

This was derparific. I lost brain capacity watching that load of excrement. He introduced variables, not all variables can be accounted for in a single formula duh.

OK... WTF. 19:05-19:31 He's talking about velocity. He takes HIS velocity numbers for his 20" with ATI 77gr Nosler ammo... then randomly grabs some other guy's 18" velocity numbers for 77gr Noslers (who knows what ammo).... The difference is 200fps... and so he claims that he's losing 200fps from going from a 20 to an 18" Yeah this guy clearly knows what he is talking about! WTF This guy is a fucking idiot. And the fact that he played legos with it and took it apart many times.... It was never in factory condition when it was unreliable or sent back to LaRue. What I mean by that, is he had already taken it apart and swapped parts.... |
I know this will get burried in the GD thread so:
@29:26.... He says that the website doesn't talk about the LW-50 Barrels any more, and goes to say that maybe they removed it so they can skimp and buy something cheaper to save money... @ 30:35 He talked about the LaRue gas block. He then specifically says "LaRue should say, ' Hey guys if you buy a stealth upper, dont change out the gas block, ever for any reason, your gun will be unreliable' " That quote above sounds like it was reliable until he took it apart..... This guy is clearly a douche and is blaming his fuckups on LaRue. |
Could be the Troy rail he put on it.
Guess he didn't even think about the buildup of the Cerakote, likely blocking off some of the gas port. Makes me wonder if he even had the bas block properly aligned. |

I really don't understand what all the uproar is? He had a less than ideal experience with the product. He never claimed that LaRue gear was crap. He clearly stated that right out of the box he had some issues. Those issues weren't easily identified and led to some frustration on his part. That's a completely valid concern. The argument that PMC ammo isn't good enough to work properly in a high end AR is absurd. We aren't talking about an issue with the occasional piece of out of spec brass, it was a repeatable nagging issue with the upper regardless of the ammo it was being fed. I don't think that somehow takes away from the quality of my LaRue gear, I've never had any issues. To think that LaRue has never ever made a mistake or somehow is above the notion of a flaw is just completely unrealistic.
Like it or not the slight modification he made to the barrel seems to have completely corrected the issue. I'd say that's a win for everyone. In the unlikely possibility that another user ever experiences this problem, we will all know to look at the gas port as a possible area of concern. I have no doubt that LaRue strives for 100% perfection on each and every part they make. I also have no doubt that despite their best efforts they fail in that endeavor (just like every other manufacturer of anything) and that's ok as long as parts like this are the rare exception to the rule. |
The most important part of the video is that after the problem was sorted the gun was a tack driver just like the experience the rest of us have the benefit of enjoying and the very reason we own LaRue rifles in the first place! In my humble opinion maybe a phone call or letter to Nutnfancy showing that LaRue is indeed very concerned that the issue existed in the first place but more importantly wasn't caught upon servicing the rifle. Maybe an offer for a T&E PredatOBR to test and give a honest review of. If it's a loaned weapon it's not going to come across as a bribe but an honest attempt to make it right and offer up a LaRue experience that more closely aligns itself with what the rest of us are experiencing. |

Sounds like he just got a lemon? Happens to every manufacturer... we're all only human. Just odd that it couldn't get fixed after being sent to Larue twice. Maybe they just couldn't replicate it with their quality ammo? I do agree that it should still be decently reliable with lower quality ammo though... But opening the gas port sounds like a shotgun solution where you don't pinpoint the problem. |

Perhaps they just wanted to protect their methodology, perhaps they did in fact change barrel steels to something of US origin. |

You will also notice that he just sent the upper back in, he didn't send the lower he was using back in with it. Probably the wrong buffer, or spring, or both. Opening up the gas port would make it work if you had too stiff of a buffer spring and/or too heavy of a buffer. I have run into that issue with a hydraulic buffer on my 6.8 SPC.... Installed a standard weight buffer and it would slam home the next round everytime, even with the stiff magazine springs in my new ASC mags.... Before the swap, the hydraulic buffer worked fine with the weaker springs in the C Products magazines.....
Too many variables on his end to blame anything on LaRue, period!!!! Especially if he is shooting Wolf!!!!!! That garbage doesn't cycle worth beans in my CMMG 5.56, albeit my Colt feeds it fine, at least until you stick a case in the chamber...... PMC has worked fine in any weapon of any caliber I have fired it in, from .380 to .30-'06, Semi-auto, to revolver, to bolt action. Feeds fine in my 7.62 TOBR...... Unfortunately this idiot put this garbage out there, and some unknowing folks will believe it...... |
What an A-hole! I've had my Stealth upper for years and only problem I had was "I" used the wrong buffer Spring combo with the upper! Fixed it and moved on........

Probably the wrong buffer, or spring, or both. He clearly talked about looking into the buffer spring and buffer but it didn't fix the reliability. I get that it's a 40+ min video that to some on this board will be as difficult to watch as Old Yeller but to review a movie one must actually have watched the film. I bet my PredatOBR's feelings haven't been hurt at all and it still punches single holes. |

It's a wonder he can hit anything with that erky jerky trigger pull he uses. I was cringing every time he pulled the trigger. He could get a lot better groups if he were to hold the trigger back after each shot, then gently release to the reset. Oh well he is the Youtube hero and knows everything. No use in wasting my time trying to help.

He clearly states in the video that even in stock form it did not function. I dont blame him for trying to tinker with it to make it work.

Zephyr007 Nutnfancy, welcome to the LaRue Forums!
