After 3 weeks of soaking it in Liquid Wrench, I finally got the nads to tackle removing the bayonet lug/front sight base from my project M44. The rear pin came out easily while I broke 2 Dasco Pro 3/32" drift punches on the front one. The base came off fairly easy after that (With a 3# hammer's help).
Now to blast and Duracoat everything. I'm still up in the air as to whether to try and fill in the pitted areas on the barrel that will be visible or just leave them.

Cool project!
If I was painting, I would fill the pits. Had a blued rifle that way and wasn't going to paint it, so I didn't fill 'em as you can never re-blue with filler metal and get an even blueing due to different metal composition/age, but if duracoating, I say go for repairing the pits and making it really nice and smooth.
