The Dual Beam Aiming Laser – Pistol (DBAL-PL) from Laser Devices /
Steiner is a multi-functional pistol aiming laser. Easily and securely
attaching to any pistol with an M1913 Picatinny Rail, it features four
(yes 4) outputs: Infrared Laser Pointer + Infrared LED Illuminator and
Visible Laser Pointer (available in either red or green) + LED White
Light. All IR functions are completely eye-safe / Class1. The DBAL-PL
gives users the most functional pistol aiming accessory available.
Housed in a hard anodized, machined aluminum body, the DBAL-PL is
rugged and ready for the battlefield. Controls are easy and intuitive.
Two buttons are presented on an angled rearward-facing surfacing. They
are perfectly located for quick access and easily activated with or
without gloves. One button is marked "VIS” and activates the visible
laser and 400 lumen white light at the same time. The other button,
marked "IR,” activates the infrared laser and infrared illuminator at
the same time. Both lasers are co-aligned to facilitate zeroing
procedures. Windage and Elevation adjustments require a small screw
driver and are recessed to prevent accidental movement. By zeroing one
laser, you are zeroing the other in tandem. The DBAL-PL runs off two
CR123 batteries. The battery compartment features a very secure quick
release latch. The latch is not spring-loaded and requires positive
engagement by the operator on both sides to lock and unlock.
The DBAL-PL is one of the most innovative pistol products on the
market. Inspired by the legacy LAM (Laser Aiming Module) used by
USSOCOM in the late 1990's, it gives the operator every functional
device he/she would need to effectively deploy a pistol in low light and
no light situations. In fact, the DBAL-PL was originally commissioned
by a unit within the Special Operations community. The outputs are
extremely functional. The infrared illuminator is very effective out to
50 yards and is still usable at almost 100 yards. While this may seem
low powered compared to other illuminators on the market, this unit is
designed for a pistol that will rarely be employed past 25 yards. That
said, we must stress that this device is designed for a pistol and a
pistol only. It is not
meant for deployment on a rifle! The control layouts are specific to
how it would mount under a pistol. Can it be attached to a rifle?
Yes. Are some guys going to try it? Yes. But the controls will be
extremely awkward to actuate in this configuration. They will not be
fast and will not be easy. So, if you are looking for multifunction
rifle laser system, look elsewhere. But, if you are looking for one of
the most fully-featured combat pistol accessories on the market, look no
further.
