Not as nice as when your taking the pics though!!! Just missing my SF Helmet light....Sold the last one and forgot to keep one for myself!!! |

Hey Vic what is the system you are using to put the two MUMs together? Who makes it? I have seen the adjustable shelf but not your set up.
Yeah dual tube set up is REALLY nice. I am still trying piecing together a set of ANVIS 9s. The dream is a set of F5050's but no one wants to sell the PASS shelf. Also I am doing up some MICH and PASGT helmet plates in Coyote brown. When I get home I'll post a pic of one I did for a buddy heading off to Afghanistan. Sia has seen it already. IPSC_GUY SIERRA II ALPHA |
I'll post the pics of the mount on it's own...It's an american made product I will be oferring. It was hard to swallow the original mount at 1200 bones, this one will be in the 700 bones region. As you probaly realize, lot's of engineering goes into these little bino mounts, I was suprised when I first examined this part.
I would definatley like to see your helmet plate....I'm still trying to get up enough nerve to paint my NVD's in general. The other area I'm undecided on is the best of both worlds (day/night) color scheme for the helmet. Thoughts? Digi? |
Nice work on the mount...My color on my MICH was also a bit too "yellow" and light.
I REALLY agree with you on the dual monocs....It IS a whole new upper level to seeing in the dark. Seeing IS believing with a dual system! At times I think I have 3-D glasses on they give you at the movie theater, but without the headaches! |
dual monoculours, mother of god. wow.
you got any pics of the NV that has most of the unit on top of fiedl of view, two peices that go in fromt of eye, but not much in front.... |

you mean these crazy things? www.specwargear.com/images/nightvision-pvs21-4.jpg |

Someone actually has a set of PVS 21s ? ? ? I have never even seen any nor has my former roomate who just left 2nd Force.

Ok that is interesting. It looks like you get some adjustment out of them width wise? Who is making these and are they going to be a production item or is this one of custom rig?
IPSC_GUY SIERRA II ALPHA |
Nice rig! It must be wierd to have depth perception. Couldn't one also adjust the focus on one eye for close, and the other for far to really get the brain working...
The mount adjusts like a binocular and also height. It's US made and in production, it's going to be in my next round of additions to some NV accessories. I will take some pics of the mount on it's own as well. Just busy with the Spectr's this weekend!

Dual tube set ups give you very good depth perception. I have heard of Pilots doing the focus one eye close and one far. I don't know how well it would work in practice. IPSC_GUY SIERRA II ALPHA |

Just the other night I drove in to my shooting spot with a Dual tube set up. When I got there I focused one unit in close so I could gather up my stuff out of my jeep, and still keep an eye on what was going on around me. I only had it this way for five minutes or so but it worked like a charm. Your brain just uses the most usefull of the two images. |

How does that helmet light work if your wearing a set of muffs like Peltors or Soridins?
I wear both the above and this was the reason I went with the 2001 model with the ear cut outs to make room for the Peltors. I have two sets of helmet pad inserts (med and large). I wear the medium inserts while wearing the muffs. I will be taking some future pics of actually wearing the helmet with all the gear attached. Tweeter, what piece of gear would you like to see how it's mounted? thanks |
I was never big on that thar book lurnin'
I should be more specific, I'd like more info and some pics on that binocular mount. Is it a single-device mount that's adaptable to a dual-device setup? Or is it specific for use with two devices? *edited for spelling, I'm my own worst enemy* |
The device can be used for single OR double monocs. More pics coming on the mount on its own. Hope this helps |

Dude, sweet headgear... you having a hard time adjusting the NODs? It looks kinda like your face is being squished behind your goggles.
If you adjust the back of your helmet harness a little so your goggles rest a little higher on your face, it will allow for a more forward firing stance. You won't have to stand as upright... you won't have to look down the length of your nose to see forward. Unless it's just you acting all high-and-mighty about your awesome night vision gear. |
Actually just maybe just acting almighty...Naw The NODS were fitting very well, I just had the monocs pushed back further.
So what cammo are you LH mag pouches. They really jump out at you when looking thru NVG's
That downward tilt of dual tube set ups happens alot, I don't know why but it does. The odd thing is you can see just fine. Strange but true.

Here is another pic by request. Also, not depicted here, but the Peltor Comtac, Sordin, etc. work well with the MICH 2001 side cut helmet. I use a split crown pad to make extra room for the top head band. Presently, I am getting some comm. work done to my Comtac's, but as soon as their complete, I'll get some pics up.

Hey Vic can you photograph the MUM bino mount with out the MONOs on it?
IPSC_GUY SIERRA II ALPHA |
No... I've only been waiting for, well.... forever for the same thing. He can't be bothered with the petty desires of mere mortals. ETA: Vic... BTW, don't paint your NODs. It would be the same as defacing a work of art. |
I was toying with the idea if taking a PVS 14 apart and duracoting the housings. It would be just somehing fun to do as my NODs (as the Army likes to call them) go in a pouch when the sun comes up so the need to have them subded is not needed. The mounting plate on the front of the helmet on the other hand is a different story. Walking around with a big black spot right in the fore front of your helmet ain't cool. IPSC_GUY SIERRA II ALPHA |

LOL on the mortals! I WILL get those darn pics of the mount on it's own!!! My bad!! |

Victor -
I MUST have this. I'd be very interested in having you put together the entire package for me, including the helmet and IR helmet light. Can you please e-mail me regarding when it may be available and cost? Thanks! Brad [email protected] |
Alrighty, FINALLY photographed the bino mount on it's own. VERY well made piece of machined aluminum and very well engineered for what it does in such a small package as well. You can see the knurled knob for height adjustment, the machined grooves for the MUM or GT mounts, also the ballbearing rear swivel locking mechanism that locks either the MUM's or GT units in place. Also hard to see but both sides of the groove assemblies move up and down for eye width adjustment as regular binoculars do.
Sorry for the delay again in getting these up!! Brad, Email coming. |
Pete, I am carrying these as a NV accessory. They adjust for height and (your are correct) adjust for width around your eyes as a regular binocular does. |
Victor, that mount is so simple it's amazing. A LOT more straightforward than the Norotos "rail" dual mount... definitely less expensive.
You need to put more pictures like this on your website... flies to honey. |
I do indeed need to update my web site to show these off, thanks! It's tough to find the time sometimes between all the photo's here and there...
Pete, finally taking da plunge and getting the 14 painted up and a few other goodies. When you painted your base plate, did you notice any difficulty getting the NOD mount on and off with the added surface build up from the paint? Their pretty tight tolerences to begin with. |

Howdy
The KG industries gun kote I use goes on very thin. It is Teflon and needs to be baked. I actually had to put several coats on. To my mind two coats seemd to be not enough as this will see LOTS of abuse. There is no issue with binding of the Rhino mount as it snaps into place. So your gonna have you 14 done as well? Are you going to break it down to piece parts or do it whole? About the only thing I can think not to coat are the lens bearing surfaces, the front threads on the objective and the IR and high light sensor windows. Other wise it should look cool. You could do the eyepiece focus ring and then go back over the numbers with some black to make them stand out. Also you are right there is a move afoot to make the weapons subdued as well. In the desert it was funny to see Marines walking at a distance and the desert digis work REALLY well so they were kinda hard to see except for the big long black thing hanging out front. the rifle gave ya away quick. It was funny when the Army guys first started to show up in their new ACU stuff. We asked them if they simply had not gotten the desert version yet. To which they replied there is no desert version this works in every enviroment. The first time I heard this I was like "dude your green, you stick out like a sore thumb..." IPSC_GUY SIERRA II ALPHA NIGHT VISION WHICH HAS THE ALCHEMICAL CAPACITY NOT TO TURN LEAD INTO GOLD, BUT SOMETHING FAR MORE VALUABLE: IT TURNS DARK INTO LIGHT. |
Well the PVS-14 got done along with my MSA helmet and whole weapon. The 14 was done whole except for a few parts. Put a quick pic below of a new colt build with this new holographic paint design from Kat Performance Coatings. The MSA, and the 14 with mount were all in the same color. It's an amazing paint that when looked at from different angles and also different lighting conditions, the paint actually shifts color in subtle way. In the photo below, the color actually shifts a bit darker than when seen out in bright sun lit area. I will post the pics of the helmet and the 14 this weekend as well. Simply outstanding work!

Victor,
SWEET setup! Bino night vision is worth its weight in gold if you are flying, doing any kind of rapid movement (driving, boating, running and shooting, etc.). There were times in the olden days when some favored the PVS-5s with bino depth perception (one focused near, one focused far) over the first generation PVS-7s (which were clearer, but didn't give the depth perception or field of view). The original ANVIS 6s were developed because of the number of chopper losses that eventually got blamed on crashes that may have happened with the PVS-5s. I hate having to crank my head back to look through NVGs, especially if you're wearing them all night or making cross-country movement. Back in the dinosaur days I was clearing a long hallway on a CQB exercise (wearing -7s if I remember right) and I ran full speed straight into a wall like Wile E. Coyote. Thought my battle buddy was going to wet himself he was laughing so hard. Note of caution if your two tubes are not aligned and there's any parallax at all -- the user will get headaches from hell. The -21s (we called them Cat-Eyes during some initial T&E tests) were VERY nice (of course, nothing good comes cheap). You might try some of the textured spray-paint (Home Depot or Walmart) and it'll slightly rough up the helmet's finish. |
Sinister,
LOL on the "Wiley Coyote!!" Serious issues on the depth preception issues. I wish our pilots and families could have had the same luck as I remember too well on the early depth preception issues that cost the lives of several military folk. The new helmet paint job is below by the way...Sorry for the delay. |
This paint job from Kat Coatings is absolutely spooky. This new holographic coating is the first on this color scheme as they are gearing up for some military rifles as well. The color actually shifts when viewed at different angles and lighting conditions!! The indoor pic above is actually shifted a bit looking different than the pics below. Both no direct sunlight but daytime. I know different camera's and lighting can produce this, but believe me this paint color shifts when looking with ones own eyes! I will be getting a pure desert rock and sand backround in the next few days to show how the color looks in this environment.
The PVS-14 was done as you can see except for a few areas that included the rear eyepiece where the eye up cover slides over and the internal IR cover lens. The rubber eye cup and day cover are getting painted this week with a special dye that will flex like a pretzle I'm told. |
Kat Performance Coatings I didn't see the holographic coating on their website. Is this something not yet available to the public or could you offer some insight into how to ask for it? Something in a Dark Earth-type color might be worth looking into.
Are you having this done by the same folks? I'd like to investigate total costs and lead time for the work, if you could steer me in the right direction. |

Hi Ya N, Under their tactical pull down menu, they talk about the holo paint. This was the first time they used this holo technique with this particuliar color scheme. ("Iragi Freedom" they called it.) I opted due to my night applications to cut down on the intensity of the brown streaks which show up the most when looking through a NOD. ...And yes, the eyepiece and cap of the 14 is getting done from the same folks. Hope this helps. |
Perhaps I don't have the correct website linked. On the page I have, there is no "Tactical" drop down menu and none of the three that are there mention holo-painting.
