Asked over in the Armalite AR10 forum, but no replies. I have an Armalite AR10 A4 (20") and an Armalite AR10 A4 Carbine (16", mid-length gas system) that I want to free float.
1) The STAR 10 13-2 (rifle length) seems to fit the bill except for being too long to fit with the standard picatinny rail gas block in place. I could replace it with a LP gas block, but I hate to lose the ability to fit a front sight that isn't handguard mounted. The rifle is shot a lot using a sling, and the whole point of free floating is to prevent POI shifts caused by sling tension. Mounting a front sight to the handguard takes me back to square one as the sight will move with the handguard under sling tension. Has anyone faced a similar condundrum, and were you able to make the 13-2 work?
2) Will I have the same problem with the 9-2 on the carbine? It doesn't seem so based on my measurements, but I'd be interested to hear of first hand experiences.
Thanks in advance for any input.
