From internet babble I have seen, there was some problem with the colored polymers when they had to make them thin enough for magazines. I don't know if they broke or bulged or whatever. But they had a problem. Supposedly that problem was not an issue with stocks and grips and such - just magazines. Black was stronger and didn't have the problem. For some reason, they sell also sand magazines, so I assume ass-ugly vanilla is stronger too (I think that's the official name for the sand color).
But like you, I am zero percent interested in ever dyeing plastic magazines and trying to get them to match my furniture. I've seen the results when others tried, even when they used a specific formula. It always looks a little off from the furniture they're trying to match. OD would be nice. But until they break the secret to making OD plastic that is as tough as black plastic, I don't think we're getting OD magazines again.
