Spent almost 20 years in rural EMS. Always loved volunteering more than the full-time gigs.
Spent the weekend teaching ACLS to an awesome group of EMTs in rural Utah. If I could talk my wife into it I would pack up and move to a nice small town just so I could volunteer again. Good people, they took good care of us this weekend. I think I gained 10lbs. 
I spend 5 days a week teaching classes and really enjoy it but it was nice to have an audience that really wanted the information instead of a group that is mostly sitting in class because they can't work tomorrow if they expire.

Why didn't they wait for the fat guy to get into position before taking the picture?
I see a mix of attitudes about rural EMS here Some communities here want to rely on volunteers but there aren't enough volunteers do their programs are dying on the vine It's a shame to see the withering process as the years go by Most people are leading busy lives and the affected communities aren't admitting that the old model isn't working anymore. |
