This is in our collection. I have never seen one quite like this. Double barreled, one lock, the first barrel has a touch hole drilled on the far side and there is a small pan there, next to the other barrels touch hole. It's about 26 inches long. The lever under the stock was once connected to the lever above the barrels. The wire is gone and the spring is broken so it no longer trips....but you can see how it worked.
Any ideas on its origins and/or purpose?            |

Not a punt gun, it's only 34 inches long and not designed to be fired from the shoulder. It IS a flintlock....
Another view with an MP-40 for size comparison........   And a pic of the under lever that acts as a trigger....  What's this big pointy hook for???? Again, I have a rough idea of what it is... |

Looks like something with contraptions to set at a particular angle... maybe to fire rope between ships?

Just guessing, but it could be some kind of booby trap device. Set it up with a trip wire or some such, which would release both barrels at once...
