I posted this thread over in the travel section but haven't had a single reply, I thought by the nature of the question it might be better here.

Anyway,  My future wife and I are taking a cruise to the Bahamas next month (honeymoon) and I was wondering what we should make a point to do/see.
There will be three stops, Nassau, Half moon Cay and Grand Turk. I'm interested in things to see in all three but specifically Nassau. I'm really into history so any old ships, forts, monuments or things like that would really interest me.

Thanks.

Governors House, there is an old fort on the west side of the Island, the roadside Conch Fritter vendors out on the beach road, learn to ride the old Honda 'crashbox 90 step thru motorbikes' on the wrong side of the road. The shops in the old downtown near the docks are full of little bars, shops, and restaurants.

Mind you all of this was true in 1985 when I was last there
I am sure it has changed since then. Do a Bing search for Museums and Points of interest. Pics when you get back, and Congratulations to you and the missus to be.

Depending on how long you will be there, I'd skip the sightseeing and go to atlantis for the day.

Not the best place in the bahamas, water park and aquariums at atlantis are pretty amazing.

Best food in little local places.

Water is awesome everywhere.

abacos, walker cay, out islands are more better.

Was there a few times, mostly escorted around by locals. When I was on my own, (wife was with me one time) never was threatened but was always on guard. Had a few "looks" my way that were uncomfortable at times, but no different than being on bourbon street or Miami.

As stated above, lots of good small restaurants, and the open market was fun.

There's a fantastic Dutch restaurant- Van Breugel's- not too far from the cruise ship docks. Excellent drinks, fantastic seafood, and the staff was very hospitable.

Are there any ships or anything like that? When I was in Jamestown they had modern copies of ships of that era. It would be cool if they had some sailing ships like those used in the late 1700s- early 1800s in Nassau.

Sounds interesting, do you recall the pricing?

I spent a day in Nassau back in 1990 on a cruise.  I spent about an hour walking around downtown and being dragged to the straw market, and that was enough for me.

I did go snorkeling off Athol Island, and that was fantastic.  I would recommend that to anyone and I would definately do it again.

That night we went to Carnival's Crystal Palace (its changed names since then) and saw the show and watched people lose a lot of money in the casino.  I swear the Bahamian limo driver got us up on two wheels heading back to the ship!

Sorry for the late reply. I was busy breaking my leg.

Price was on the higher side. If I recall correctly, the tab for two came to ~$80 with food and a couple of drinks apiece. It was the only meal we paid for on the trip, and, fuck it, we were on vacation. Well worth it.
