King Ranch?

That would have been my guess, too.
+1, there's also another one out near Lubbock.  Something about a poker hand, or poker ranch?  Story has it it's been lost/won over poker a few times with drunk cowboys.

eta: the 6666 Ranch, still looking for the size.

Fucking Turner owns Vermejo?!?! This is sickening to me on a personal level; Vermejo used to be my hunting ground way back many many years ago. I always thought Vermejo was probably as close to Heaven as I'd ever get.

I can't tell you how many personal fantasies I've had about owning that ranch, and to learn that douche Ted Turner owns it absolutely crushes me...

The XIT ranch in the Texas panhandle was 3 million acres, all fenced, in the late 1800's

Sierra Pacific Industries owns close to 2 million acres on the west coast, all prime timber.

Link

Sierra Pacific Industries owns and carefully manages nearly 1.7 million acres of forest land in California, and over 230,000 acres in Washington. Harvested areas are replanted within a year, ensuring sustainable forests for future generations. To assure that we’ll always have forests in the future, we plant an average of six million seedlings each year. It’s a policy that’s not just good for the environment, it’s good for business.

just not for him.

Turner gave away 30% of his fortune to charities a few years ago. He may be a douche, but he put his money where his (considerably large) mouth is.

30 %  that's it?   Hell a true socialist would divide it by the world's population and divvy it up equally.   Lord Obama demands more than that.

He gave it to the UN.

I bet the crooks there stole at least $350,000,000 of the billion he gave them.

Ted Turner:

Turner's biggest ranch is Vermejo Park Ranch in New Mexico, at 920 square miles (2,400 km2), it is the largest privately owned, contiguous tract of land in the United States.

Bingo.

The only entity in the world that owns more land than the King Ranch, is the Catholic church.

This according to one of the King Ranch books.

Anyone know? Appearently Ted Turner owns the more land than any other American (~2 million acres) but it is distributed over 12 states.

I'm curious who owns the largest single parcel of contiguous land in the US besides the government or churchs.

It's curious also, that he believes in socialism and redistribution of wealth.

just not for him.

Funny how often it works out that way.

Not arguing the fact.

Isn't that land slated to become some "Heritage park" of some sort to be managed by the UN or some such shit?

Twenty years ago there was still a railroad trust in Texas that was 3x the size of the King Ranch, but they had property everywhere.

Perhaps if there is a surveyor around here they could back me up but I'm pretty sure the biggest single parcel of land is a Section which is a mile by a mile.  For every section you owned there would be a seperate tax deed.  I'm not 100% positive on that though. I've been doin this shit for 14 years and never seen one more than a section though.

I remember watching a report on Ted Turner's property about 10 years ago.  They commented that he was in the final stages of purchasing the final tracts of land to allow him to traverse from mexico to canada without stepping foot off his property.

Ted Turner owns a boatload of Nebraska.

HH

The LDS church owns ~280,000 acres of farmland  in Nebraska. One of the largest landowners in Nebraska.

The largest single property owned by the LDS Church is a ~312,000 Acre ranch... In Florida...

There are multiple farms and properties, and production facilities. Mostly farms and ranches... Total acreage makes the LDS church one of (if not the) largest landowners in the US.

Mr. UN might have the largest single parcel, it looks like, though. After Florida, the largest other single parcel is a 200,000 acre beef ranch owned by the LDS Church.
