Round one. |
Josey Wales by a knockout. He had a bigger grudge than Johnson. He also had lots more guerrilla training.
Josie of course but... if you think about it, Jeremiah lived in a much harsher enviroment on his own accord. I would rather picture those two having a beer together than fighting.

Quoted:
Maybe this should be about Jeremiah Johnson and Les Stroud. No it should be about the two characters listed. Who is Les Stroud? Maybe Tom Horn vs. Les Stroud? |
"Buzzards gotta eat, same as worms"
"Well, Mr Carpetbatter, this here is what we call a Missuri boat ride" Yeah, im going with JW. |
There was supposedly a real Jeremiah Johnson, named "Liver Eating Johnson". He ate the livers of all of the Blackfeet he killed. They left that out of the movie. Too gruesome I guess.
True Johnson would have Josey for breakfast.
Johnson was a real person Josey was, I believe, only a movie script. |

Josey Wales would whump him with a knotted plow line.

But the BF braves came at him one at a time, instead of in 2s, 3s, or all at once, over a period of years. He became a sheriff later in life. And he didn't eat them-just a quick bite or two, to F with the BF's heads. |

Hawken vs Sharps? I cant' remember what Josey had when shot the ferry rope.

Good question for a thread OP.
I'd put my money on Josey Wales. |

He also knocked out an Indian holding him prisoner , severed his leg and ate the frozen leg to make it to safety during the dead of winter. |

Since it seems that JJ actually existed, gotta go with him. I read a book about him back in junior high I believe it was. Crow Killer was the title. Seems the men of that era were a different breed.

"Buzzards gotta eat, same as worms" "Well, Mr Carpetbatter, this here is what we call a Missuri boat ride" Yeah, im going with JW. I'll go with Josey, just cause there were so many classic lines in that film. Josey: "Every time I get to liking somebody, they wind up dead". Old Indian: "Everytime you get to not liking somebody, they wind up dead". "How is it on stains?" <as he spits tobacco juice on the carpetbaggers white coat> a-bare |

In these vs threads, Clint Eastwood characters win against all comers.
Jeremiah Johnson, it was him alone against the Crow nation. Josey had allies.

Gun fight goes to Wales
Knife fight goes to Johnson by a landslide Hand-to-Hand and improvised weapons goes to Johnson Johnson lived in the mountains off the land. He would have better wind power, stamina and acute senses. |
Wales should be an easy man to find. Leaves dead men wherever he's been. |

He would have better wind power, stamina and acute senses. I don't know about that. If Josie missed, he just had to duck. If JJ missed, he got scalped and/or eaten. Summary: Josie had a blackpowder revolver and good lines. JJ ate your liver to screw with your tribe and fucked with grizzly bears. |
If JJ were jumping out of a tree with knife in hand I would say it's a win. But face to face with some space definitely JW. I can't get the image out of my head of JW spitting on the dog's forehead from horseback.

Josey was the better gunfighter, but Jeremiah was the tougher dude all around.
You know, that could actually be a tough one! Remember, Johnson constantly lived on the edge being stalked by those Crow indians. I think maybe he has the edge in H2H...
John Johnston (his true name) was, by all contemporary accounts, a scoundrel. He was a crazy, antisocial, psychopath. Judging from his picture with a winchester carbine, he was a big sombitch, too.
One of the men interviewed way later in life, after Johnston was dead, was still afraid to talk about him. Certainly not the noble soul portrayed in the movie. |

You left out the part where he used the severed leg of the brave that was guarding him as a club to fight his way out of the camp. |
