I have about 4 quarts of Mobil 1 5W-30 that I would like to use in my vehicle that takes 10W-30.  The vehicle holds 4.8 quarts.

Could I put in 1 quart of the 5W-30 and then 3.8 quarts of the 10W-30 without harming the engine?

It's  a '93 Toyota 3.0L V6, btw.

You could put in more than that.  4.8 quarts?

I've never seen an engine hold an odd amount like that.

You could go 2:3 if you wanted.  Wouldn't hurt a thing.

Better to do this in the winter than the summer.

It is fine, same as purchasing Synthetic Blend, and BTW they don't say how much is in the blend.

You'll be fine.

Imagine how much oil is still left in the engine after drained anyway.  You could switch grades between oil changes and still be mixing it...

Don't worry about it.

check your owners manual.... i have a 96 nissan 2.4L eng, Nissan recommends 5w30 as the best all around oil. I have used it exclusively for years... (I dont notice a difference from the 10w30)

Don't have the owners manual and I can't find my Haynes manual.  The oil fill cap indicates 10W-30.

A) the correct place to ask this is over at "Bob is the Oil Guy"

B) the specs for 5W-30 and 10W-30 are so close that Mobil (or any of the other) can manufacture a large batch of oil and measure it when it comes out of the process. The thicker batches goes in 10W-30 bottles, the thinner batches goes in 5W-30 bottles, and the spot on batches cuold be bottled in either 5W-30 or 10W-30 bottles.

My 92 Toyota 3.0L V6 book says you can use 5w30 as long as it it not going to get below freezing during that interval.

How old is the oil?  Modern oils have lower amounts of ZDDP and in your engine with flat tappets, could be a problem.

I predict a lot of cam smear in the upcoming years.

Does it hurt to mix fully synthetic with normal oil?

The oil is probably a year old.

I'll bet $5 that it's a lot older than that.
