I love Dr. Who the plot was dumb, the acting horrable, the Science far fetched, and The Special Effects the worse known to man...but you got understand the man with a sonic screw driver. It made Mcyvers Swiss army knife look useless. edited because I dont know the difference between "were" and "was"

Dumb-ass scifi shows I never missed when I was a kid: UFO The Invaders Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea Land of the Giants Space 1999 Lost in Space Star Trek (the one and only REAL TRUE Star Trek w/ Shatner) The Outer Limits Most under-rated scifi show: "Golden Years"
Link Posted: 10/19/2001 7:23:07 AM EDT
"Space 1999" and "UFO" were the products of a genius British production team who also put out the wierd sci fi puppet show, "Thunderbirds". The best Sci Fi always takes it self seriously, no jokes. That's why "Starship Troopers" blew it (I still enjoyed it). That's why "Alien", "Rollerball" and "Blade Runner" are so awesome.

I watched Dr. Who for over 10 years! I also watched Blake's 7.

What is so dumb? Traveling through time and picking up beautiful women and taking them with you? Like certain guys here wouldn't love to do that?
Link Posted: 10/19/2001 7:26:21 AM EDT
I grew up on BattleStar Galatica...then I "discovered" Star Trek .......Kirk...Kirk but I didnt and stil dont think of Star Trek as Cheesy

But [red]Which[/red] Dr. Who do you like best? Golgo - No Time Tunnel??
Link Posted: 10/19/2001 7:35:03 AM EDT
YOU'RE MISSING THE BEST PART OF DR. WHO!!!! HOW CAN YOU MISS THE...... L1A1'S AND BROWNING HIGH POWERS????
Link Posted: 10/19/2001 7:37:38 AM EDT
Grin, Yep, I did watch "Time Tunnel", now that you mention it. "The Wild, Wild West" too, since it was cheezy scifi set in the 19th century as much as it was anything. Also, "Earth II" and a sit-com about 2 astronauts who get sent back in time and live with cavemen, the title of the sit-com escapes me...

I knew there was different Dr whos but I was to young to understand if they were different Dr's. or if they were different actors...some one told me they were the same Dr. Reserected after he had been killed.....Its not on TV here or Id watch it when ever it came on....Yeah I remember one where a british soldier was shooting at one of thoose trash can robots with his rifle and it having no affect.

My favorite Doctor was the third one, played be the late Jon Pertwee. Vulcan94

Dr. Who is great to watch. So is Red Dwarf. I only saw one watched Blake 7 once. It is hard to get any SCI-FI shows PBS these days.

I really loved Doctor Who. Sorry to see it go out of production after 20 years. But yea. Ultra Man Johnny Sokko and his flying robot Voyage to the bottom of the sea Blakes 7 The Prisoner Space 1999 Star Trek (All of Them) Battle Star Galatica (Both of Them) and a little watched show called Star Cops (Another work of BBC's about a police inspector in outer space in the not too distant future) Red Dwarf If it was Sci-Fi I watched it.

How could you guys leave out that Sci-Fi hit from 1967 - Captain Nice!! http://http://www.mountains.net.au/nval/scifi/captnice.htm http://http://www.yesterdayland.com/popopedia/shows/primetime/pt1243.php "Mr. Terrific" was a close second... http://http://www.tvparty.com/terrific.html

I used to watch this show also. I haven't seen it here in South. Calif. for awhile though. It is was a lot better than a lot of those lame & stupid sit-com BS that we are seeing today. A lot of them had a decent plot. Watching this show was kind of like watching a live stage play with it pretend special effects.
Link Posted: 10/19/2001 10:11:47 AM EDT
Man...Captain nice and Mr. Terrific! I remember those! They, along with "The Green Hornet", were an attempt to cash in on the camp super-hero idea started with Adam West and Burt Ward in the "Batman" TV show. It wasn't really scifi, but it was cheezy: "Dark Shadows." Oh, and the "Superman" TV show w/ George Reeves! It was in syndication by the time I saw it, but I never missed an episode!

While actually a mini-series instead of a regular series, I always thought “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Universe” was nicely done – especially the whiny, self-pitying robot. There is just something about that dry British humor!

Althought Doctor Who was the first in my life. I then moved on to Hichhikers Guide (I now have the video, 194 min. long!!!). I LOVE RED DWARF!!!!!! But I wish I could find Tripods again. I miss that one. I haven't seen that one since high school ('88). BISHOP

LOL....ok, I will be the first to admit it. I STILL watch Dr. Who. I have been buying the videos that they put in the "bargin" bin, at the local stores. I have to say that Tom Baker is still my favorite Who. Other shows I watched when I was a kid were Buck Rogers (I am surprised I didnt see that listed already), The Six Million Dollar Man (way overpriced if you ask me), The Bionic Bitc....errr Woman, Automan (how many of y'all remember that one?), and The Pheonix, just to name a few. My favorites were always the obscure ones that only seemed to last a season and then disappear. Hmmm....what a great thread...stuff like this brings back memories that I havent thought about in years :)

I like Blakes 7. Everyone gets killed off at the end. I got's Tom Baker's autograph from a Dr. Who convention that I never attended.

Dr Who! Great show...other than the Doctor himself, Romana and K-9 were my favorite characters.
