Ok, I know this isn't a handgun forum, but the topics here often seem to stray from AR-15's. [:D] I was wondering what are some good choices for a concealed carry handgun. I need something that is light, easily concealable, and comfortable, but shootable and reliable. My S&W 10mm does not fit this criteria. I am willing to trade power and capacity for size. I like Glocks, but they seem kind of thick. I know Sig makes good guns, but haven't tried any yet. Any suggestions? Also, what kind of holster do you recommend? Thanks in advance for your input.

I used to and sometimes still do carry a Ruger sp101 357 5 shot revolver. It is perfect for pocket carry. Not to expensive either. And yes, 5 shots of +p 357 is enough.
I currently carry a Glock 26 in an Inside the waistband Bianchi leather hoster at the 4 oclock position. I carry Corbon +P. The glock is thicker than the sp101. I carry the revolver when wearing a t-shirt and the glock when wearing anything else. (or both) I trust my life to both and would recomend both. [:)] |

I have a full-sized 1911 as well, but it is not very concealable.

i'm just gonn be a bastard for a laugh.
right out of the "HOW TO BE A PC SHEEPLE" =carry pepperspray and a cell phone with 911 on speedial. =guns are baaaad. =police will save you =ask the man if he'll use a condom before he rapes you wear the old west duster jackets. leather, come to the floor. carry a semi auto 12 guage. blow him half. if the media picks up on stories of muggers/rapists that have been cut in 2 by gunfire, your going to notice a big decrease in those crimes. i'd say glock or hk for carry. |

Sig P228/229 is perfect for carry. 228 is available only in 9mm and currently is sold to LEO only by Sig. You can find them on the used market for a good price. It is a little lighter than the 229, but the 229 is available in .40, 9mm, or .357 Sig. The P245 is a .45 ACP, but some people don't like the fit in the hand.
I am not real small and I carry the 228 and also the P220 in .45. The P220 is full size, but I find it very concealable. I also carry several different Ruger P-series. Some people say they are too bulky and too heavy, but I find them to be no problem. |

Offroad,
I'd love to be able to take my 12-guage, but this is for my protection at work. I'm in medical sales, and have to go into some parts of New Orleans that aren't too savory. I'm in and out of my car alot, therefore the light and comfortable requirement. Since I'm in sales and representing my company while at work, I have to be concerned about what others think, so I really don't want to advertise that I'm carrying. When I'm at home, I could care less what anyone thinks. By the way, in Louisiana, you can shoot to kill anyone who tries to carjack you. When they passed that law, carjackings declined by 80%. I personally carry a SIG239 on my waist. It's a small, light, and solid 9mm with 8+1 shots. Rounds go wherever you point. My ankle sports a Taurus ultralight titanium 38 special with a concealed hammer. Again, lightweight (13 oz empty) and low-profile.

I bought another Uncle mikes made for pocket carry, works great and doesn't print. hmmm.... I've never thought of cutting the clip off. Might have to try that. |

Glock 23 packing 13 rounds of 40 S&W (preban mag). Reasonably light, small enough to conceal and utterly reliable.

Desert Eagle point five-oh (depending on how big you are). [:D]

I think of concealed carry along the lines of my fear level/worry, and what I'm wearing and how that influences my ability to conceal a pistol. This all boils down to three choices: small, medium, and large. Small is the smallest and lightest - none is smaller and lighter then a Kel-Tec P-32/ 6 oz unloaded just can't be beaten. Medium can be a small snub nosed revolver such as a S&W or Taurus titanium 12 - 14 ozs. A Glock 27 or the equivalent might also be considered here. Large can range from a Glock 23 to a Glock 20. If you're worried about the thickness of Glocks, look at the Glock 36, it's about the thinnest you can get and still go .45.

Kahr P9, Glock 36, Glock 19 or 23, some flavor of 1911, etc. Depends on what you like. If a Smith 10mm is too large for you to carry, a full-size 1911 is probably too large as well. I find them easy to carry with a good belt and a Milt Sparks Summer Special, but they are too large for some. The Kahr P9 is probably the easiest to carry- mine is really light, very reliable and extremely accurate. Be easy to carry in a suit. Go to a gun shop and hold all of the common carry guns and see what feels right to you, then rent some and shoot them. I wouldn't recommend that you go any smaller than 9mm. Stay away from the cheap off-brands.

As dated as they are, I still feel the traditional S&W 5-shot .38 Special revolvers (or Ruger or Taurus equivalents) are a superb combination of concealablity, reliability and power. The new titanium ones, while hard kickers, are especially nice.
The Kahr polymer frame 9MM’s and 40 S&W’s are also quite attractive. |

I have to agree with the 5 shot snubbie crowd for max concealment. During the summer I carry a Ruger SP101 in a Ted Blocker pocket holster and it is totally invisible, even when wearing shorts and a t-shirt. I would recommend the DAO version with the hammer "bobbed" to make it less likely to snag on draw. There is no lack of firepower in a .357 mag snubbie, even with only 5 shots. Face it - most true self defense scenarios occur at virtually point blank range and if you can't get the job done with 5 shots, you are already toast. That's not to say more available shots aren't better, just harder to truly conceal.

Quoted: Come in to the 21st and a half century. Glock 30. View Quote That's my first choice most times. Not quite as easy to hide as a snubby, but when the weather is not HOT, I carry one in a IWB with no problems. When it's cold out, I usually go with a Para P1445. |

I carry a Kel-Tec P11 inside my waistband, just to the right of my spine. I got the belt clip for it; the pistol stays in place even when running, but still allows a quick draw. Most of the time I forget I'm even carrying it.
The S&W 59 series mags work flawlessly in mine, for 15+1 capacity. I had Derek at AZEX Arms refinish the slide and barrel in OD green, to add some extra protection and a little flavor. Shootable. Of course. A long DAO trigger pull, but easy to get used to. Reliable. So far mine has functioned flawlessly. It's only got 200 or so rounds through it, but so far not even a hiccup for me. And it was barely over $200!!!!!!!!! |

Ergg...I highly suggest the Glock 27. It is what I carry as a backup gun for duty use, and it is my off duty gun. They are light, reliable, easy to maintain and operate.
Our department issues the "wonderful" Sig Sauer P229. I have to say that I find our duty weapon to be the biggest P.O.S. I have ever used. It rusts easily, has far too many moving parts for a general police issue weapon and is too wide. Just my 2 cents. |

Let's see...There's Glock, Glock, and....You guessed it..GLOCK !!!!!
As you can see, I'm not partial. [;)] |

If you got a fagbag then, HS2000
If not, Beretta 85 (.380) or Tomcat (.32) |

Go with a Glock 26, 27, or 36. You will not regret getting a "mini" Glock, there is nothing better for CCW.

I have to absolutely agree with Nocross110 on his suggestion! My glock 27 it extremely concealable and reliable, plus packs the punch of a .40!
If I had my druthers I would only carry a 1911 but unfortunately they are heavy and hard to conceal. Also not to hurt the feelings of the SIG owners out there but I really dislike their guns! Not as reliable, bulky and overpriced! I have owned just about every brand of HG's except a SIG. Of course this is my opinion! Ybbeat Steel is real baby! |

Kimber pro carry with some good night sights. Very easy to conceal with a good holster.

I have 1300+ rounds through mine with NO FAILURES OF ANY KIND. [sniper] |

I carry Glock 19 O.S.W. Fobus. I buy my shirts one size larger and no one can tell I'm carrying.
