The order of release was 1st season of Index, 1st season of Railgun, 2nd season of Index, 2nd season of Railgun. Chronological order is 1st season of Railgun, 1st season of Index and 2nd season of Railgun overlapping and showing some incidents from different viewpoints, 2nd season of Index. Either series can be watched independent of the other, but the 1st season of Index provides some background information that gives you a better idea of what's going on in the 2nd season of Railgun. |

It'd help if you're familiar with old-school Macross (or at least do some reading about the storyline, so you understand WHY they're doing what they're doing) The REAL problem is it's not been officially released in this country. You'd have to get a copy of unknown quality off Ebay or from ......... other sources. |

I grew up watching real Japanese shit with really rough subtitles on VHS. Sure, I watched DBZ on Toonami, and yeah it was dubbed but that was before I knew what real DBZ was. I never really thought of DBZ back then as being "anime" I figured it was American. I know better now but w/e. I remember watching late night Adult Swim, watching shit like Inuyasha, thinking WTF is this shit? Sure, the dubs were "ok" but god. Watching the original on VHS with subtitles then going to that?!? No way lol. To me, every English voice actor that dubs Anime lack....emotion. They're reading lines and that's it. Japanese voice actors pour their heart and soul into making the character they are playing come alive. That is why I will never watch dubs. |

I have kind of fallen out of watching Anime lately, mostly because I can't keep up with all this stuff coming out.
Been reading manga though it's getting me a little depressed. History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi has ended, and fuck if I didn't start reading and a month before the end at the most. Bleach is on it's final story arc which I really wish they would make an anime or ova of. Naruto Shippuden is likely nearing it's end. No word that I have heard about it, but I'm just not really seeing where they are going to go when this arc is fully done. Started reading The Gamer which is a korean manga, and it's actually pretty good. |

I'll check it out, but man is that gonna suck to catch up and it just be done. It's got it's good points, but it has had periods where it didn't seem to be going anywhere. More long story arcs in the beginning, but for a while it has just seemed to be random shorts with occasional links to past incidents. I've seen some complaining about that, in various forums (quite a few people saying they should just go ahead and end it). The last chapter that I read, seemed to be getting things lined up for another arc, and making it look like this may be the arc that ends the story (resolving various things that have been brought up in the past chapters that seemed to be just random bits). Then I got to the bottom of the last page, and it said the next chapter would be the final chapter. Starts looking like it's going to get good, again, and then they say they're gonna wrap everything up in one more chapter. Wait...What? |

I wish they'd continued with the anime, I enjoy the story much more when the Japanese voice actors are involved. Unfortunately, some anime will never see another season, even though there's plenty of additional story material already in print. Pick a show that you liked, that has ended, then see if there's a manga or light novel. The anime may have followed the novel or manga to the letter, or it may have condensed the story to fit the available time, or it may have jumbled the order of events (because the director wanted to tell the story a different way). There's also the possibility that the anime came up with new story material that wasn't in the print version. If the manga or novels continued on, after the anime ended, you get the chance to see what would have happened, if the anime had done that next season you wanted to see. |

Full Metal Alchemist and Full metal Alchemist Brotherhood are good examples of that. Bleach had filler arcs, I think Naruto had filler episodes, Sword Art Online actually put things in order.
Watching Anime made from Manga or Light novels is like watching a western movie based on a book. It's either going to be close to the book or it's not and people who read the books will hate it. |

View Quote That's why you watch the movie (or anime) first. Reading the Aincrad arc of Sword Art Online is something that requires some research and planning in advance. It is possible to read it (or what has been published of it) mostly in chronological order, but you end up jumping around between novels and short stories, with notes telling you how far to read in each one before jumping to another. The other main arcs (ALO, GGO, etc) were written in chronological order, though there are some short stories that fit between those volumes. Nazo no Kanojo X is sort of an example of trying to do it all. The OVA (episode 14) doesn't seem to be based on anything from the manga. There were also little bits and pieces that were added to the anime, to 'flesh out' the story a little more. The order of events was also changed a bit in the anime, with some details altered in order to maintain some sort of continuity. As I recall, there were also a couple chapters that fit in between chapters that were animated, but were completely left out of the anime. And the anime ended, right before the start of one of the better arcs from the manga. |

uuugghhh. Now I don't want to get caught up on it. I haven't read it since the school cultural festival where the pop idol look alike showed up to perform.
I just finished aldnoah zero tonight. What a fuck you to the audience. I was hoping that the "justice be served, even though the sky falls" theme would have led to a better ending. I'm glad that there might be more. |

View Quote I think that was the last long arc (film club producing a movie for the cultural festival). It's been mostly coasting, since then. There have been some good chapters after the film club arc, but it all felt like there was no longer a clear plan for the story, just occasional chapters that would serve as reminders of what the story was (the relationship between Urabe and Tsubaki) and show a little progress. At least they did work in Urabe and Tsubaki taking a bath together, several chapters before the end. ETA: Actually, I was expecting the final chapter to show more progress with Nee-san, than with Dipshit, because of how well they have gotten along with each other, after the limited time they have talked to each other. I guess I was expecting Nee-san to do something to push Dipshit along, like inviting Urabe over for dinner or encouraging her to spend more time at their house, making Dipshit look at Urabe more as a possible addition to the family, than as a secret girlfriend. ETA2: A few chapters ago, Oka got upset because Urabe's personality was changing to that of a typical lovesick girl. It's possible that the author saw that this was happening to her character, and didn't like how that would result in her no longer being "mysterious". Ending the manga by resolving things, would have pushed her more in that direction, so this could be why the ending left things as it did. |

This is officially the weirdest manga I have ever read.
|
|
|
it's my understanding that the author was known for doing romance stories where the girl always turned out to be an alien, or ghost, or some other supernatural being. Nazo no Kanojo X was the result of a suggestion to try doing a romance where the girl turns out to be human.

How long before somebody decides they can do a better ending, and puts their own version of the final chapter on the internet?
I don't think I've read any of Ueshiba Riichi's other work. Have any of them had an ending with some closure to the story? |

At least one of the new series had a decent first ep. Grisaia no Kajitsu seemed to have the beginning of a decent plot (at least better than the rest) and is only rivaled by FSN this season. Hopefully they will both turn out decent.
