My uncle, Sean Halper, is a firefighter with the NY Fire dept. We knew that his fire station was close to the WTC and if he was on duty at the time, he would have been one of the first to respond. We tried calling him at home and got no response, and could get no info until this morning. He was on duty at the time and told us that when they got there, the rest of the firefighters on his truck jumped off at the scene and started the rescue. As driver, he was manning the truck and pumps when the tower collapsed. He said he took cover but was blown through a doorway, a little banged up, but alright. He hasn't called until now because he was looking for his fellow firefighters. He was the only one left off that truck, all others are still missing. We are so relieved that he is alright, but still praying for all others.

Very good news.  It's a tragedy that all those brave men were probably killed, but it is always great to learn that a loved one is safe.  Not only safe, but joining in the effort to try to rescue his fallen brothers.

Good luck to him and all the selfless men and women who risk their lives tonight in the slim hope that even one more survivor might be pulled from the rubble.

And hats off to those who support the rescue effort by giving them free food from their restaurants, a cup of cool water on the sidewalk, or even a round of applause as they pass by in their dumptrucks and ambulances.

God bless America.
