Cor-Bon 115gr +p+ si the best of the local gunshop stuff(92% one shot stopper)but Mullins 115gr +p++(1500fps)is the best of the best.I think the pistolo was chambered for .38 super as well as 9mm so I would not be afraid to use it in that pistol but I would get a slightly stronger recoil spring though.If you want ball then IMI "Black Tip" from Cole's is the best of that breed. sopmodm4 |

I'm not familiar with that type of weapon but assuming it is built strong enough to handle hot loads, I will second sopmodm4 about the Cor-Bon 115gr +P+ and add three of my favorites: the Winchester Ranger SXT 127gr +P+ or Speer Gold Dot 115gr +P+/124gr +P. Any one of these is the best you can get for a 9mm weapon.

I'm 99% certain your pistol has an aluminum frame. I would only shoot standard pressure ammo in it. I would check AuctionArms ([url]www.auctionarms.com[/url] for Winchester 147 gr. standard velocity Black Talons. You asked for the best, they are the best. They are also hard to find and therefore expensive.

Tayous1, the hydroshocks will probably be you best bet for functioning reliability with that particular weapon. I used to have one and they are sensitive to HP ammo.

This is the best quality ammo ever made period.It also happens to be the most powerful commercially available ammo,period.they use special gunwood rather than gun cotton powders that proiduce more velocity without an increase in pressure.Mullins 9mm produces damage on par with .45acp hollow points while allowing subgun like capacity.If you are looking for ball I just visited their website and they are now selling IMI ball as well.IMI Black Tip ball is ballistically similar to Mullins but provides the highly penetrative military ball projectile at around 1500fps.This ammo is also made in an ISO facility to the strictes quality control specs and produces groups sizes similar to Black Hills ammo(my former favorite)with superior performance on target.. Go with the Cor-bon 115-grain, your gun should be able to handle shooting small quantities of it. STAY AWAY from Black Talon. 147-grain 9mm loads have the worst record on the street of all 9mm bullets. The Black Talon is a very late-energy-release load designed to be tolerant of cross-torso shots and intermediate targets like arms, and it is. However, it doesn't dump its energy fast enough to be nearly as effective as the faster, lighter loads. In addition, if you happen to shoot someone, you can bet your fanny that when you get sued, the plaintiff's attorney is going to make a huge deal of you carrying 'killer Black Talon rounds' that were pulled off the public market. Is it bullshit? You bet. Does it sound really bad to a jury? Yep, and it could mean the difference between winning and losing the suit. In addition, many prosecutors don't know jack shit about guns, and could decide that your using 'killer Black Talons' was evidence that you were looking to kill someone. Again, it's a bunch of crap, but it's the reality in our society today.
I'd stay away from the +P++ stuff that pumps out a 115-grain bullet at 1500 fps in that older Smith, it might be too much for it. |

A few months back I used Cor-bon 124gr +p in the gun and it help up well but it hates the Wolf 9mm ammo and the Blaze ammo.

Ammunition marked Law Enforcment Only is BS. With exception to some frangible rifle rounds like longbow. anyone can buy +p+ its the same thing as the Remington 700P.

Federal 9BP or 9BPLE and the first couple of rounds in each mag are Glaser Safety Slugs (with
the roundnose) Both are proven, both are accurate, neither kick especially hard for followups, and both work flawlessly in either a HKP7 or Glock 26. And, no I'm not basing that on a few mags full either. Stay Safe |

The model 39 is quite old. You would need to check if the pistol can chamber jhps without any problems. I use Corbons, Speer Gold Dots and Federal Hydra-Shoks. All in the 115 grs range. This is probably the only time I would agree with the Scarecow that shot placement is critical.

I like the 115 Cor-Bons. In a standard pressure load Gold Dots are good and don't discount the Hydra-shok and Nyclads from Fed. The 147's were actually designed to function in a suppressed weapon. They sometimes give one problems with functional reliability. In some law enforcement circles they have been called "widowmakers". Also be advised that the vaunted black talon is not the most effective 9mm load, or even the most effective 147 9mm load. The lighter Winchester (127? 129?) SXT would be much better IMHO.

Before you get too excited about the high-tech super-zappers, make damn sure that the load you pick actually works in your gun. This especially applies to older guns like your 39-2. Run at least a box or two through.
Recoil is pretty light with all 9MM loads IMHO. It's hard for me to tell the difference between standard loads I practice with and the Cor-Bons I carry on the street. So, if you can shoot well with one, you should be able to shoot well with all of them. |

I have shot a few JHP ammo out of the gun a few times one was a box of Cor-bon 124gr 50rd and the other was Fed hi-shock 147gr and it worked fine with both of the ammo.
Does anyone out there know how much this gun is worth it's in good condition and has 7 factory mags with it that when I found them they cost me about $20 each. |

If people have to recommend "+p" or "+p+" or "+p++" for defensive use, it begins to make me wonder about my 9.
For my part, I have basically given up on "effective" 9mm loads and am stockpiling 115 grain ball ammo. My favorite practice reloads are 120 grain LRN cast bullets meant for .38's. Reloads are *problematical* for targets which can sue you, BUT any reloader can make his own +p, +p+ or +p++ stuff. I have just given up on making 9mm "effective" and feel much better. I have a .357 and .45 for effective shooting. |
