This is my second AR, which I just completed andI decided to go nuts on the scope. This is a Tasco 12x60x 56mm. The scope makes that fluted 24" barrel look like a 20". So am I crazy or what?!?

It be cool. You might think of getting a GG&G Fire GS-1 Rail to move the scope forward about 2 inches for correct eye relief. I've got one of these MOFO scopes and am planning on putting it on a DPMS 24in Super Bull upper.

16" barrel! I would love to see a pic of that! I forgot to put the sun shades on this one but it is also a tasco custom shop.

I definitely know what you mean, for my AR10 and Bushmaster AR15 I use a Bausch&Lomb elite 4000 6-24 and the damned thing is 17 inches long without sunshade! On my AR10 there is no front sight base so I can get away with putting the sunshade on, with my 20inch Bushmaster and the scope eyepiece put right at the charging handle the objective ends up being about 2 inches away from the front sight base without the sunshade attached. Thankfully the Armalite scope mount allows me to forward mount it so that I can get the eyepiece of the scope right at the charging handle and it's not akward. With the sunshade on the scope looks like I've got the Hubble Telescope sitting on top of my AR. My Leupold 6.5-20 Long Range on the otherhand is only 14 inches long, pretty amazing the difference between the two scopes.

I had a Sprinfield 4.5-14x40mm on my Bushmaster shorty, and the scope reached from about an inch in front of the rear sight, all the way to the front sight. Long as all hell, but actually looked OK.

You're lucky, my scopes won't even fit on the flattop of my shorty. All of them bump into the front sight base WAY before the mount can even fit onto the receiver.

I was told that size doesn't matter, but what you can do with it.

You don't know what big is until you mount a NIGHTFORCE!!!!!

I did the camo jobs myself, I used a removeable paint called "BowFlage" Look in the Rifles, Uppers, Accessories area and a member in there asked for me by name and for my help, we talk about the BowFlage stuff in there. Charmedlyfe, yes, NightForce is BIG! Heavy too! If I get some of the custom uppers I want for my AR15s and the AR10 I'll probably get a Nightforce scope for using on one of them. The next scope planned for purchase is an 8.5-25 Leupold Long Range.

Targeting at night requires your scope to have extremely good light gathering capabilities. So bigger is better if you can't afford IF night vision equipment.

I was wondering the same thing. I just bought an ATN 6-18x65!!!!!! Supposed to be like 16" long and weigh 2 lbs.!!! Think it'll look good on my flat-top Bushy with a 26" barrel??????
