If your friend pulled up in a brand new VW bug and you opened the door and got in and noticed that he had a flower on the dash, upright next to the steering wheel and says "Whattya think?"
How would you respond?

I think I would "accidentally" knock that stupid flower on the ground and "accidentally" step on it a few times, then apologize for my clumbsiness. I've been seeing alot of these cars lately and that little flower really bugs me for some reason. To top it off these people must be replacing these flowers so they can continue to be "so cute!".

After I got done laughing I would call him names that question his manhood.  Then I would tell him to join the VW Mafia.

If it was a woman I would say nice car, nice flower, and you are looking lovely today. [}:)]

One time, long ago, my friend had a VW bus with a 110-hp motor in it.
When he opened the door, there, in the ashtray, was a Zig-Zag Strawberry Wheat Straw wrapped dooby...
Those were the days.

Not insecure in my manhood, just sick and tired of these 60's era burnouts with all their peace and love bullshit and how the world is a better place because of all they accomplished and drugs were OK then because all they were doing were enlightening themselves for the greater good of mankind and give peace a chance with a little help from my friends california dreaming schlock.

I agree w/300ydclean, 60's hippy culture and it's continuing mythology is the gateway to all the liberal commie bullshit we face every day as gun owners. Imagine all the people thinking for themselves, rather than hanging on the pseudo-eastern mysticism of some pot smoking englishmen.
And your friend is either a girl(acceptable), gay(acceptable and funny), or a damn liberal commie asshole(unfortunately not punishable by death!)
RANT OFF.

EXACTLY

Probably put a little better than my version, but the point is made nevertheless.
People that buy bugs with flower vases are trying to relive all that 60's horse crap and should have K-bar knives jammed in their eye sockets.

The "60s hippy culture" is the New Left. The Old Left has dominated this country since FDR was elected (although its domination was challenged by Reagan in the 80s). The continuing dominance of the Old Left is our biggest problem. The New Left isn't such a threat, and it is much more amusing (besides, hippy chicks were often cute).

Scooper: the original VW Bug's engine compartment was just about the same size as the Porsche engine compartment, and had about the same mounting hardware.  It was totally possible to buy a wrecked Porsche and put its engine into the VW to get a bug that could fly.

The dune buggy cottage industry had so many aftermarket engine & chassis parts available, over 200 horsepower could be had from those little 1600 cc engines.  It all depended on how long you wanted the engine to last.

That's why I have flowers in my Beetles vase, so people will underestimate me.  Now I have the advantage.

I always laugh at the people who want to know if they're "real flowers."  Oh, sure, I cut them fresh everyday.  Gimme' a break!

Yep, I'm all peace and love and....wait a minute, what's with that NRA sticker?  Really warps the fragile little minds.

I had a 1964 VW Karman convertable bug, select-a-drop front end, Porsche rims, 67 rear end and trannie. I pulled the stock 1240 motor out and replaced it with a dual port head 1840 with dual Weber 40 carbs.
It was a true California Bug.
And it smoked all of the big block junkers back in 1978 when I owned it.

HOLD UP A SEC! a built VW will not run down a V8 on the freeway or long stretch of road but running down the 1320 no chance. 1.9, 2 litre strokers smoke 8 and were built at a third the cost. You cant get the traction like a bug since most of the weight is directly over the wheels, bugs will leave you out the hole on two wheeels with street, slicks or cheeter tires. Sure they wont last as long but, for that thing being a 4 bannger boxer they are incredible. And for you serious V8 guys, I'm not rippin you if you want serious power you build an 8 even I know that. but a 2180 w/ a gene berg 5 speed is nothing to laugh at even with a flower vase. I still want a 69 cammie!

you wanna talk about a smokin cheap little german car, I had friend in high school who occasionally drive her dads porsche 914 when her stock 914 wasn't running, pretty much most of the time. guess they had a thing for those little cars. anyway this was the little junky one that was made by Ghia I believe, and had a vw motor in it originally, you can still pick them up for $700 and wasn't much more than a motorcycle with a couple of extra tires and bigger fairings! Anyway her dad's had a CHEVY SMALL BLOCK in it! I don't know what cid but even a 283 would kick ass in whats probably only a 1200 pound car. She NEVER would get on it, but you could FEEL it even with her light girly acceleration, that it just wanted to jump right off the ground. shaky as hell. I have no idea how it was done, getting the engine in there I'm sure would have been a huge pain but since it's a rear engine rear drive car I wonder how the hell he came up with a transaxle for it. Us Okies will do some weird stuff sometimes, but it was coo!

You guys have obviously never driven one of the New Beetles.  I had the chance to rent one -- a stick-shift, even -- for a week while I was visiting my family.

They are COMFORTABLE.  They handle great.  They look cute and cuddly.  Acceleration is nice and zippy -- no, not a Porsche or even a Mustang, but just dandy for non-teenage driving.

If they had any space in the trunk/rear seats, I would've gotten one.  Unfortunately, in a one-car household, it just isn't quite big enough for all-around use.  In a two-(or more)-car household, it would make a good commuter car.

Original VWs are better (except for those buses)!!!  If I could quit blowing money on guns & ammo I could throw it into this project:

Around here, some guys do have bugs.  My old neighbor had a bug, and his girlfriend was hot.  The gay VW is the Jetta!  The really hot chicks all drive Jetta's.  If you see a guy driving a Jetta, he is 100% gay.
