OSD (811 posts) Jul-20-01, 01:23 AM (ET) "OK tell me what is wrong with this..." This is an AK74 assault rifle. It is a true assualt rifle and by definition has a full auto, as well as a semi auto capacity. I point out the distinction because most people erronously consider semi auto only military rifles "assault wepons." [OSD posts a picture of his full auto AK-74] You won't see too many of these. This is a real Romanian 74. It is a NFA registered firearm. That means I had to pay $200.00 for a special tax permit that included a full FBI background check, pictures and prints, and the rifle was registered to me as the only owner. If I sell it the next owner MUST undergo the same process. In addition I paid nearly $4,000.00 for the firearm itself not counting registration fees and taxes. In the United States you cannot import NEW machine guns. You may buy only those that are already registered and the closed the registry for civilian transferable weapons in 1986. So supply and demand has increased prices across the board. For example this exact rifle can be purchased in Africa or South America for less than $100.00. I have never shot anyone with it or felt the urge to do so. I have no criminal records or I would not have been able to buy it. I do not have it so I can rob someone, if I needed money I would have just kept the $4,000.00 that I paid for it. I don't lend it to the local gang members for them to use in drive buys. I keep it locked in a gunsafe when it is not in my personal possession(it was expensive). And no one is in any kind of danger because I own it unless they break into my home and threaten me or my loved ones. So given all this information, who objects to my having a "gasp" AK and specifically why? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Messages in this topic : YANG (501 posts) Jul-20-01, 02:51 PM (ET) 1. "Explain what you need it for" I used to collect firearms, mostly side-arms and military bolt-action rifles, but I got rid of them when I started having kids so they wouldn't get into them. If you want it as a museum piece, would you be willing to file off the firing pin? If not, I'd like to hear a damn good convincing reason why you need the thing. _______________________________________ MaryBall (85 posts) Jul-20-01, 03:54 PM (ET) 4. "Need?" Careful with that word. Holy shit! He's got a full auto AK-74!!!! We should pile on there, back him up, and try to talk him into making it into a Krinkov.

I checked out his AK From what I know about it, the problem with that gun is that it doesn't have a compensator on it.

The owner of this weapon is a member of the DU. Over 800 posts. If it is true I like it! [smoke]

Shot my SAR-2 for the first time today. Wow, sweet. I wonder how many are registered full auto in the US? That would be a nice NFA weapon. $$$ [:D]

4k for a transferable ak74? i doubt it unless he bought it a loooong time ago.

Are there any transferable AK-74'S in the United States?
Link Posted: 7/20/2001 4:51:48 PM EDT
Don't 74's have a 90 degree gas block? Looks like a SAR2 to me.

was it mcuzi over there? they banned the guy who posted the evil kill rifle (typical) and he came back as chiefcrappingcattle. if so I gotta give him a big up for getting 800 something posts on du, every little bit counts.

As i under-stand it,there are only a handful or two of real(f/a) AK-74's in country that are legally transferable to us mortals. It does have a muzzle nut on the end of the barrel.I believe it's a SAR-2 and the owner is just giving them crap.the last time i saw a F/A AK for sale ,it was closer to $8,000.i would think a F/A AK-74 would bring even more.It is a good looking rifle.mmk

Did some lookin' around. This guy claims to be retired SAS and seems to know his gun facts. And did anyone else notice the dagger? This might be a legal conversion.

I'm not saying it's not,but i don't see three positions on the selector.I'd really like to be able to read the white letters on the sight block.mmk

Actually the early AK74 had that style gas block...but..the front sight block is threaded and larger than the muzzle nut on the one above. Couple this with the commercial nylon sling that comes with SARs, and would say it's a conversion at best. my garden rifle[:D] Jim

Also just noticed the front sight base does not have a bayonet stud, AK74's bayonet latches there and the ring to the front of the muzzle break.....The one in his picture has it on the gas block where a regular 7.62X39mm AKM would be, the muzzle nut is the type on the AK47 and the AKM it is much to small to thread on an AK74 threaded sight base. Possibly the conversion was based on one of the THUMB HOLE stocked Romanian 5.45X39 rifles recently imported, these had a muzzle nut similar to this permanently attached to the muzzle. It's hard to tell from this dark photo but it appears that there id no cleaning rod, also not on some of the thumb hole stocked rifles. Just some thoughts. Jim

he's also wrong about not being able to import new MG,they come in all the time as dealer samples. Also M24 you're right there is no bayo lugs at all,not even what you would find on a SAR1 to hold the cleaning rod in place.but exactly how sar2's are sold.I swear i've seen this pic before on ak47net posted by someone who had change the furniture out.Once again while i wouldn't bet my life on it,looks post ban semi auto to me.could even be a sar3.mmk

I have never heard of a transferrable AK-74. I have seen dealer sample AK-74's, and they were much cheaper of course. $950. I'd ask this guy about it, but I've been banned there so many times it's not worth the effort to register. Or maybe we should just take his word for it. He's a Democrat, one of the good guys. They never lie, and have hearts as pure as the driven snow.

Full auto is for anti aircraft machine guns. If you want accuracy go with a semi or 3 shot burst. If you want to waste ammo just to make it sound cool then full auto is your thing. I think its BS.
