Well here in Tucson for the last two weeks TNN has had American Shooter at 1:30 PM on Saturday. Yea! I've tried to call the TNN call-in line (888) 767-1090 and leave a voice message, but I keep getting the "not taking messages at this time" automated response. But I'll keep trying.
Great show on Saturday, by the way. Good shooting with that Garand, Jim! A suggestion: Could you guys cover next years International Handgun Mettallic Silhouette national championships? I haven't seen that particular sport showcased on American Shooter, though I admit that I haven't been able to catch all of the shows. IHMSA is my particular sport, so I'd really like it to get more exposure. Thanks. |

Jim, welcome aboard! I did see your Highpower show...it was very good. Why don't you pay a visit to us Highpower shooters down in the Competition Shooting forum here at AR15.com? We'd love to have you there. We were all anxiously awaiting the HP show on AS.
I think that the direction that American Shooter has taken is great. While it's important for us all to fight for the 2nd ammendment, it's good to have a show like yours, that really portrays the "Shooting is a normal, everyday recreation" direction, too. AS doesn't act like there's even a struggle going on. That's a tactic in itself, and I like it. I've pretty much done the same thing where I work; I act as if my shooting hobby is just as normal as someone else's tennis hobby, or cycling hobby...and it is! The more we act like it's "different" the more we pigeonhole ourselves. Sorry for preaching to the choir! It's great to see you here. |
|
Jim you rock.
Keep the good shows coming, we will all be watching. If you would like a co-host or even just a lackey to test all the guns and cars for you. You know break them in for ya, I would be happy to submit my resume. You couldn't find a more dedicated employee. Ask anyone, I am already certifiably addicted to guns and cars as it is. |
|
Jim,
I really like the show and can't wait to watch the entire series of Rob's Leatham's lessons on shooting. After Rob's lessons, how about getting some match rifle shooters to give some lessons! Keep up the good work. Scott |
|
Hi Jim,
Absolutely love your show! You have even got my wife hooked! I love the 3gun match reviews. My wife likes Munden the best! Great to have you here. guns762 |

i was a bit skeptical of all this at first, being some of the members have the means to play a little trick on us, so i emailed jim. and got a promt reply(thanks for that, jim), "yes it is" thats good enuf for me.

Watched yesterdays show and am glad I did. My favorite shooting sports are IPSC and Highpower. Keep up the good work! P.S. Would it be at all possible to get Munden and Leatham to do something together?. That would be a classic!
|
|
Nope I missed it. Expected it on Sunday evening the way it used to be. So it's 1:30 eastern on Saturday? Would that be 12:30 central?
May have to set the VCR. Love the show. That and Tales of the Gun on History channel. M4-AK [sex] |

Scott View Quote Scotty: This series with Rob is our first experiment with instruction and, so far, it's going very well. The feedback through e-mail is very positive. It may be obvious, but we taped all the Rob segments in two days, following a day Rob and I spent locked up in a hotel room in Missouri planning what he was going to teach in each segment. And while I picked Rob for this gig and I thought he would be good at ad-lib teaching; I wasn't quite prepared for how good he really turned out to be in front of the camera. You'll see the results over the next 11 weeks as the series plays out every other week. Next season we would probably try rifle to follow-on with another series. But the question becomes who to choose as the instructor. David Tubb has the credentials and the trophys, but David in the past has always gone too basic in his interviews about his shooting... as though we didn't know anything about shooting at all. Probably my top candidate for rifle is Clint Smith, who is very good at teaching and is well respected for his accomplishments with high power rifles. Little different approach, since he's a Tactical instructor in his schools, but Clint has the presence to carry off the segments in a format where the teacher is the primary host of the segment. You may not have thought about it, but very few people on TV are "authorized" to look straight at you and talk directly to you. I am, your local News people are, Tom Brokaw is... but most of the people you hear from or see on TV do not make eye contact with you there on your couch. It takes training or a certain instinct to look you in the eye and present information without seeming phony or overbearing. Makes this instructor thing hard to "cast". Just so you know, I'm sharing thoughts, not trolling for rifle instructor suggestions here. We're at least 6 months from deciding "if"... let alone "who". Thought you might find the background interesting. Jim Scoutten |

That will change soon however; I am not able to take the current class and do my homework. It looks good so far, I would really enjoy to see it continue with a rifle edition. |

wow!!! I love the show and have watched it religiously with my wife and son for several years.....I only have one problem with it. Since I have started shooting high power again i am never home to see it.. I wish there were Sunday afternoon reruns....I really miss seeing it! It is a great show for all of us who love shooting sports.......thanks for what you do for our sport Jim!
|
|
I love your show Jim but DirectTV NEVER seems to run it in the time slot advertised or even at all! Can you guys put some pressure on these idiots please!
Thanks |
|
Mr. Scoutten,
Thanks for taking the time to visit this great site and ask for our input. First, with the change in ownership at TNN, I question their committment to the show. The last few months have included incorrect schedule listings and time slot changes. If there are any avenues we can pursue (other than the useless 800 number) to show TNN they have a viable audience, please let us know. Second, I think it would be interesting for American Shooter to visit a firearm manufacturer and see how our guns are made. Thanks for representing us so well and keep up the great work. Tim |

" ... I wasn't quite prepared for how good he really turned out to be [ad libbing] in front of the camera."
Yeah we noticed that when he bagged on your stance. I about fell of the couch seeing the look you have him ;) Great show on Service rifle. Makes me want to give it a whirl. Thank you David |
|
Hi Jim.
Getting a highpower shooting coach on the show seems like a good idea. When I look on the firing lines, the AR 15 Service Rifle seems to be the choice of most. Many can't afford to get into a match rifle like David Tubb's. An M16-AR specialist coach may be the wisest choice because of the popularity of the rifle. Highpower being a position shooting game, may not be portrayed correctly by one who specializes in combat/self defense schools. My $.02 Keep up the good work. Doug |

Hi Jim- Love your show, only 2 problems though. It needs to be at least an hour and probably 3 to 5 hrs. Need to show more on the Steel Challenge and other competetions instead of only the finals. Love watching Chad Dietrich from Bismark, ND.Also I need a job testin products, I realize this will be the hardest of my requests. Great to hear from you, keepem in the 10ring.Dennis.

Jim,
I want to tell you that many people love your show but never know when it is on. I myself always look for it and can't seem to find the schedule. When I do find the schedule the show is only on 1/2 of the time. The show is the best shooting show on. But TNN or the other stations that put it on the air have to have a set time that does not differ from week to week. Unless they feel gunners are expendable like the rest of the country/world. My advise to you is get a consistant schedule at a normal time that families can watch the show and enjoy the shooting sports on the tube. Don't let us down this is the concern of many who like this show but never seem to catch it. Thanks again Lougotzz |
|
Hi, Jim! Great to have you on. I've been watching American Shooter for about three years and rarely miss it. Being a K-war vet (and an old Garand guy), I really loved the SR segment, and you shooting the Garand. Really great rifle. I also loved your presentation of "Browning and His Guns" last year.
Now hand gun training on a TV program! How rally unique and on the cutting edge in this day and age. Outstanding! [^] |

Don't let us down this is the concern of many who like this show but never seem to catch it. View Quote Guys, The best I can do for you is post the accurate schedule on our website www.AmericanShooter.com along with the warnings for the Mountain and Pacific Time Zones about cable confusions that could swing the times as much as three hours out there. For the past 6 months, TNN has been using re-runs of American Shooter for "filler", to plug a hole and get back on schedule after some sports event. Nobody likes that less than I do. Piss off the audience often enough and they will give up trying to watch. Now the new shows are up on Saturday afternoon and they are likely to be seen as scheduled, and while I'd like a second or third play of the show each weekend, there is nothing I can do about that. We don't have ANY control over what TNN is scheduling. They don't even want to hear from me on what I think about it. I appreciate all the suggestions and ideas about making the show more convenient to watch, but Saturday is what we've got for this season on a contract that pre-dates the new management of the network. I'm doing all I can this year to see that there is another contract for next year. Jim Scoutten |

Keep up the good work and keep trying the show has a great following.

|
Hello and welcome, Jim. My son and I watch the show always. Please keep up the good work.
Bob Munden is great to watch. Perhaps more segments on Bob's past accomplishments? Kind of like a biography? Good show on yourself shooting and behind the scenes at the targets, you should do more pieces like that. In addition to covering the "big name" matches, maybe an occcasional segment on some smaller local gun clubs in different states, things like membership, events they have or sponsor, matches that they host, etc. Again keep up the good work and thanks. |
|
Yeah, I think a Bob Munden biography would be interesting.
Jim, where can we mail a letter to TNN telling them how much we enjoy the show? I think it will help come renewal time if we get everyone on this board (and others) to mail a letter to TNN. |
|
I've always enjoyed the show. I was dissapointed when I realized I missed the new one, particularly the segment with Rob Leatham. I was however quite pleased to find the info available on your website. Thanks a bunch! Keep up the good work!

Jim,
Thanks for the new shooting tips segment. I think we all can use so help every now and then. A one hour version of your show would be great. How about a story on the popularity and availabilty of AKs in the market? Tahnks |

Jim'
I don't think you know how important your show is. It is not only entertainment it is the truth. The American people are being brainwashed and you can use your great show to turn the tide. Many American people don't want to see hunting shows They think it is gross and bloody. But a shooting show that shows the legal and lawful use of firearms in a responsible manor. Now that is something they might just stop and listen to. I am not against hunting but many are and wont bother to watch. The American people are being bombarded by propaganda. The gun is bad,the gun is the problem, get ride of guns and you will be in paradise. This is what we are up against. I am not a big fan of TV or movies. I don't like movies that show the illegal use of firearms. Or glorify the wrong treatment of the 2nd amendment. So all the people who support hollywood and the movies that show the wrong use of guns are just feeding the anti's. Hollywood would go out of business if they relied on me. I understand that the movies are action movies and fun to watch but the american people really think that us gunners act like the movie characters. If you own a gun you are going to kill. Cause that is what you do with a gun. I saw it in the movies. This is their attitude. They can't distinguish fact from fiction. That is why I say Jim keep up the good work and good luck fighting the anti's at the networks. You have an uphill battle like all us gunners do. I wonder if we are going to win? Everyone reading this remember "presentation is everything". |
|
Jim,
If it will help American Shooter, please post the e-mail address or the physical address for TNN. I'm sure with all of the folks we have here that watch, we could get a lot of support letters going in. Just like DVD Tracker said, I'm sure it will help come renewal time! Also, I appreciate the format you guys use. Staying away from all the emotional legal stuff. Keep it fun! Make people want to enjoy it first...then they will get on board in the legal arena. Thanks for the great show and the hard work! |
|
Hey Jim How bout' giving us a group buy on T-Shirts ? Just think of all the publicity and free advertising!
|
|
Jim,
Great show! I love watching this series and like many have already stated, appreciate that it shows responsible gun handling and ownership. I'm glad that the focus is not only on hunting firearms, instead showing the full width and breath of firearms available and from days past. www.FNFAL.com is another web-site that has a loyal following as well. Keep up the good work! |

My VCR is set and will be recording American Shooter at 12:30 CST.
|

Before the new season began for American Shooter, I would set up my VCR to record the show according to the local listings and ended up recording a golf tournament.
It pissed me off. |

Guys:
I know it's not really a rifle thing, but I thought I'd check in to tell you where we are and what we're doing. Grayling, Michigan for a Civil War Era long range cannon match. It's a bit of a tradition up here that the Michigan National Guard allows the top cannon collectors to show up once a year and compete on a thousand yard range. We had about 20 gun crews shooting all kinds of stuff... 20 lb Parrot Rifle, 8 inch siege mortars dropping 40 pound balls 900 yards down range... and then the cannister shooting... blowing down pop up bad guy targets at 200 yards with 20 pounds of 54 caliber lead balls in a can... in a can until the charge is touched off. Kind of like a giant riot gun blast. Good stuff for September First show. Tomorrow we're driving back down to Detroit for three days of playing with Jon Moss' GM special vehicles... the company built hot rods for GM. Cheap hotels and road food. It's what I do. Regards, Jim Scoutten [8D] (shooting glasses) |

Hi Jim.
The 1000 yard Matches at Grayling are a good time too. I'm right here in Grand Rapids, Mi. I could use a Corvette ZO6 to test drive for a day or two. Thank you for keeping us up to date. Doug |
|
Got an email from a cowboy shooter saying that another buddy of mine was on the End of Trail episode yesterday--Damn i missed it...you know a real friend would record it for his buddies....How about having it on every day....Dick

Glad that American Shooter exists. That show and Tales of the Gun are two programs that contradict the lie presented by the flood of negative media that we see every single day. Keep up the good work Jim! Tell your crew how much we appreciate their efforts.
|
|
Hi Jim and welcome to AR15.com I'm in N.B. Canada and we have been getting your show since at least 98 when I and all my close shooting buddies up here became loyal viewers. Yes we get all the shows and they air this year at 2:30 pm Atlantic time. Hope that answers your question Striker. Oh only one program time glitch. Every season the last show or two is always out of the listed time and gets missed. We have to wait to see it rerun in the winter.
Great job to you and all the folks on your crew. P.S. How do you shoot by your camera guy's head like that in your opening and closeing sequence? Remote camera? Brave crew? |
|
Two thumbs up for Jim, and the American Shooter.
Jim sounds very professional, and the American Shooter is very informative. Its my favorite program on Television. Keep up the good work, Jim!! Meat-Hook |

Good to "meet" ya Jim. I haven't had the chance to see the show much since they started moving it from 9 or 9:30 am here to God knows where. I work around home quite a bit on weekends, and gave up on trying to find it week in and week out- BUT if I knew what time it would come on, I could tape it. I'm headed to the web page now.
I especially enjoy gun tech and the long range compete shows. Munden kicks major tail, and I enjoy the product introductions. I'd also like to know how we could influence TNN and their staff on the far reaching attention of gun owners. I work in Nashville, and have a lot of friends who watched AS on a semi-regular basis. I thought it was off the station...Of course I never really watch TNN anymore. Guess I don't have "pop". I look forward to seeing the show again this weekend, and if there is anything we can do, let us know. In the meantime, shoot safely, and keep em...in the 10 ring.
