A Milwaukee police officer was charged today with a criminal civil rights violation for trying to shake down a parolee for money and guns, according to a criminal complaint filed in federal court in Milwaukee.

The U.S. Attorney announced the arrest of Ala W. Awadallah at a late afternoon news conference.

According to an affidavit, Awadallah pulled over Earl Cosey, 25, for not having license plates on his van on Feb. 11. Awadallah then took $200 from Cosey and threatened to file drug charges against him if Cosey did not get him some guns.

Cosey tape-recorded subsequent calls from Awadallah, according to authorities, and turned over the recordings to the Milwaukee Police and the FBI, who investigated the complaint.

Awadallah was arrested today, appeared in federal court and was released on $50,000 personal recognizance bond.

Our county jail O.R.'s all first time offenders booked for non violent felonies.

If the cop is found guilty he should be fired and sent to prison.  Send the parolee back to the can just for the hell of it too.

Sounds like the cop's trying to get illegal guns for his terrorist buddies!

I bet he gets off with 2 months of probation and he has to spank the judge in his chamber. You did say this was Milwalkee right?

Yup, Milwaukee.  Actually, there are a LOT of black muslims here, all the way back to the Black Panther days......could be one of them.

+1. It varies greatly by jurisdiction. Locally, the federal court releases people on signature bonds for offenses which, if they were filed in State court, would require posting tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars in bail.
