Only drive through Memphis during daylight. Stay on the Interstate highway. Do NOT stop.
Do NOT stop across the Mississippi River in West Memphis either. Collierville (just east of Memphis) is safe if you need gas or food. |

Good lord at the people recommending the Rendezvous. It's not even remotely good. Wife likes it for "the atmosphere" so I have to go there a couple of times a year. It's edible, but I think I'd just assume eat a McRib.
If you're downtown, go to Flight and valet, or go to the Peabody and valet. The Peabody charges $29 to valet your car. You'll pay $10 or more to self park, and you will come back to a vehicle missing windows. This spring wife and I were having drinks at the Peabody (think it was Valentine's Day), and ran into my oldest kid and her boyfriend, who were eating t. About 10 mins after the walked out I got a call saying both passenger windows on his truck were knocked out, along with 17 other vehicles in that one parking lot. This past weekend, one of my coworkers went to a Redbirds game, came out to a parking lot full of vehicles with busted out windows. They were nice to only knock out her passenger window instead of hitting multiples like they've started doing. So paying $30 to park at the Peabody is well worth it. It sucks, but better than coming out to a ventilated vehicle. It's an epidemic in Downtown Memphis now. Don't park yourself anywhere. Pete and Sam's has the best "real food" in Memphis. Everything there is pretty good. I get spaghetti with italian sausage or a BBQ pizza. Wife likes their steaks. Flight is great fare as well, if you want to go somewhere fancy. |

I had to pick up a piece of furniture in Orange Mound yesterday. Pretty quiet on Semmes since it was 9am. No shots fired.

I enjoyed Beale Street.
Never felt unsafe. Cops everywhere, VERY vibrant. We witnessed a twerk-off in the middle of the street. ETA: I may or may not have had a LOT of fun at The Gold Club. |

Yeah, last time we went through there, we were very selective and didn't stay long.
I was disappointed that you couldn't at least drive past Graceland and see the house. There was a nice Dollar General down the street that sells Tylenol. If you're into paranormal boogeyman stuff, Sardis Lake to the south is full of dogman stories. It's always fun whether you believe in any of that or not. |

As someone who has lived in the area for about 50 years here is my BBQ recommendation:
My favorite is Memphis BBQ Co in MS, about 15 minutes from downtown. One and Only BBQ by the Ag Center is very good. Central BBQ (Poplar East Mphs) and Corky’s are both good. |

What’s the deal with the Bass Pro pyramid anyway?
Ordinary Bass Pro locations suck, does this one have a greater variety of merchandise or better prices |

The experience is the bigger draw. Between the hotel, the balcony towards the top with the supposedly great view, the Ducks Unlimited museum, the bowling alley, indoor shooting/archery ranges, and the larger than normal fish display (it's like walking through a bayou swamp on a wooden bridge/pathway, complete with a gator display), there are things you're not going to get at your normal Cabela's/Bass Pro Shop. |

Central BBQ or Germantown Commissary for BBQ
Arcade Restaurant if you want to sit in Elvis's booth and eat Cheesecake Corner for dessert Pyramid is worth visiting Beale Street is pretty safe, not so much if you stray too far after dark Pink Palace and the Zoo are pretty good |

Agreed on your last point. The entire area is sketchy AF after dark. Made the mistake of staying at the Canopy hotel across from the Peabody a couple of times and you feel like you are trapped after dark. I was blessed to witness an intersection take over from the Canopy bar that lasted about an hour it seemed. |

I spent a lot of time in Memphis for work.
I never felt threatened in all of the places and times I spent downtown. There is a French restaurant not far from Beale and it was amazing. Texas de Brazil at the Peabody Hotel. Of course the Peabody Hotel ducks are worth it to see, since the bar at the hotel is one of the nicest places to have a drink in Memphis. Graceland is an interesting place to visit, just once, get the full package, with the airplane. |

Err’body up in Memphis seems to be very proud of the African-style murder carnival their city has become.
They make memes about it and brag like amateur combat veterans about who got shot here or who got shot there. I think it’s fucking disgusting, that some parts of our society have sunk into animalistic savagery and the rest of us are expected to just shrug and smile, hoping not to make the violent illiterates angry. |

Rendezvous was a cool BBQ place, the history and all the weapons on the wall.
They had one display of every battle rifle used by the US since the revolution. I was also able to screw over an asshole VP that was there from my company. He was waiting, with two other big wigs, for a table and I had brought the construction crew in, about 12 guys, and he sneered, said we would never get a table, and definitely not before them. I told him he was welcome to join us, since we would be seated in less than 5 minutes. He said no, and when I shook the restaurant manager’s hand and passed him a 50, I asked him quietly to seat us soon and before the arrogant asshole. He said no problem and led us right in. The arrogant asshole was still waiting a half hour later. |

We went for a few days last summer, had a ball. Spent quite a bit of time on Beale, had the best ribs I’ve ever eaten at Charlie Virgos. Watched the ducks at the Peabody, and went to Graceland. Sun Studios was cool, and the Memphis Drum Shop is amazing if you’re remotely into that sort of thing.
Very cool place to visit. |

I was there last November with a couple of AWS employees from Canada. We stayed in the Hilton downtown and walked to BB Kings. Live music abd good BBQ. No one got killed.

In fact, they were very tender and moist. I love ribs, and have eaten from Texas to Kansas City, and the ribs I had at Rendezvous were absolutely my favorite. |
