The .38 special. There are much greater choices of ammo than the .380.

I voted PPK since that is my concealed carry piece.

The wheelgun is the better pistol...
But the Walther is the CLASSIER pistol. |

I pocket carry a Model 37 all the time in the summer. Obsolete would be my broom handle.
But cool as hell! |

Of the choices: the S&W
If I had my choice of sub 9mm caliber CC pistols: Beretta 84BB In a small 9mm I would go with a first gen Walther P99 in 9mm. |

I don't like 5 Shot revolvers. But I'll take a detective special or 2" m10 easy

Third or fourth issue Colt Detective Special or a Beretta 84fs

Can I go really old-school and have the PPK in .32 instead?
|

PPK for sure, but it's gotta be an Interarms made .380.

38 Spec > .380 ACP.
The PP was designed around 32 ACP. The lighter frame is problematic in .380. I am a militant lefty. PPK has a right hand safety. S&W 36 is mechanically less complicated and has fewer small part to break. I sort of want a PPK. They are interesting historically and 007 cool. I could buy one if I right now if I wanted to. There are other Walther pistols from the same era I find more interesting. If I had a 36, I'd chop the hammer and change the grip before I carried it. I bought and carry 642 as a BUG instead. Bad guys don't care how classy your carry gun is. |

I have a PPK/S, so I'm familiar with it and have shot it quite a bit.
Got the scars to prove it. |

Obedience is not patriotism. Patriotism is love of your country, not of your government.

The Smith 36 gets my vote.
I carry a model 37 Airweight all the time. I prefer a revolver for carry / self defense because all you have to do is point and pull the trigger, but I have owned many Walther PPK pistols in 32 ACP and they are a pretty safe option too, but revolvers don't have stoppages as a rule; never say never! |

Glock 19 Gen 3.
It is completely obsolete compared to the Gen 5, 43X, and 48, and only kept alive by the California roster. Kharn |

neither of those.
My favorite bit of obsolescence will ALWAYS be Colt's Commander in .45ACP ( Carried in 3/4 ton chevy square body, with a 454, granny gear four speed, detroit Locker and Super Swampers, bench seat with a horse blanket cover, galvanized I beam front bumper...) |

Ok, admittedly I should have put "obsolete" in quotes because neither is obviously really obsolete. They still fire bullets, and people still tend to not handle being shot with bullets very well. But let's be real, you're not seriously picking either of these nowadays unless you're either really into revolvers (which I am) or you're a fan of the best fictional spy in the world....... Sterling Archer, codename "Dutchess" (which I also am)
Well seems like the 36 is winning out so far. Which is kind of what I was leaning towards. But in the back of my mind is that constant "But that PPK tho..." |

S&W J-frame hands down.
I still prefer the 342 AirLite loaded with 135gr Gold Dot as my BUG on duty. The J is the best choice for ankle carry in my opinion 5 Shot Leather rig rests against the top of a hiking boot and you forget it’s there With a little practice B/C steel silhouette at 50 yards is a breeze Attached File |

I'm honestly surprised the revolver is winning over a semi-auto.
Reading the number of 'tards in GD that think carrying a revolver is a death sentence made me think it'd be the other way 'round. |
