Dana.

Always Dana.

I have Dr. Diff putting together a replica Strange S60 deal with 4.10s right now, because I intend to drive this maniac a bit.  Over winter, I'll add a gear vendors.   That way, I can use the 4.88 + OD ro race locally.....and try to get into Drag Week with the 4.10s + OD.

I've been wanting to to Drag Week for about 15 years.  Even more since my buddy won Street Machine Small Block NA a few years ago with a 420" W8 deal on pump gas.

Sorry man, missed that post/request.

These cars have sweet asses.

The fun part....there are the threads/articles that are,

"Blown LS3 420ci makes 830hp on pump gas"

"Junkyard 5.3 Turbo deal: 901hp for Eleven Dollars"

It's why I love what I do.  It's why I love NA engine building.

If I'm gonna make over 750hp?  It takes a lot of thought, planning, and yes more money.

Why do I love NA engine building?

Because all the power is always there.

The blower and turbo motors "ramp" the power in.

These big power NA engines?

They'll fucking kill you.

Maybe why I also prefer 2strokes.

At first I was like: how quaint - a distributor! ...then noticed it wasn't embedded in the block, WTF?  I've never seen a setup like that, figured it must be indexed to a crank sensor or something until you mentioned it was belt driven. Pretty cool.

As an LS guy I still agree that NA engines is best engines. Something about the simplicity (yes they can be) and all of the attention to details at the same time. Plus the nice crispy exhaust note and throttle response. So this is awesome to me. Plus it’s been way too long since I smelled that sweet sweet race gas.

As a side note, given it was properly setup and tuned for it, would something like this run on e85?

Beautiful car!!

Count me in on wanting to hear a idle clip and a few hits of the throttle.

Add some more pictures too!

With that CR... You wouldn't be running pump "e85", you'd be going through barrels of something like One Ethanol R.

Thank god a 5gal pail of VP C23 lasts me a long time, as I only need it for a dedicated nitrous fuel cell lmao

Nice score.  Love me a Big Mopar hood scoop.  Beside the Roadrunner my first car was a '71 Barracuda Gran Coupe.  A fiberglass Six pack lift off hood found it's way onto the car.

@usp4u

Yep, you know it.

I was thinking about an additional flex about the car and what went into the very correct restoration done by me.  Wouldn't want to do that. I figured the fact it had a full 3 page article in a national magazine, a display car for 2 years running in the PPG tent at the Nats and placed a lowly 2nd in it's class at the Nats might be a bit much.

Love your threads!

Agreed. Even if you build something I wouldn't, I ain't gonna shit on it. I admire the effort and craftsmanship.

My Mach1 is not a race car or show winner - just a hot rod that I built myself. It cost me a lot in money, time, and sweat.

Every time I bring it into a car thread, some jackass (who probably has never built a car) has to tell me something like it's a secretary's car, they'd rather have an El Camino, or they make a "joke" about running into crowds. 🙄

They're sooo clever, those guys. I hope the transmission in their Silverado leaks.

Thanks for the pics. Yeah that rear end was very distinctive and what made the car to *me*.

High school buddy had a 66, which I thought was ugly as hell with the rear window. Now I think they were ahead of their time, they look like rockets. Interesting how the 66 evolved to the 67 and 68.

Ahem.

Maybe add some WW2 tech and a knock sensor.

Good ole' water injection.

High CR?

Low octane?

Good to go.

You could totally run this thing on E85.....the problem is the VOLUME of E85 that would be required.  Just not practical.

*also, I have no interest in the pitfalls of E85, nor the lack of smelling really good race fuel exhaust......im still a 12y/o kid that way.

As my W8 thread hit many roadblocks.  It is still in play Thread here

But something else happened lol.

I drug home a 68 Barracuda Fastback, with a 434ci W9 deal that makes 976hp @ 8400.  14.5:1 deal running on Q16.
At 3100lbs, on a 10.5 tire with 4.88s this thing is an animal.  I love it.

Tube K-frame, coilovers, Dana, spool, Mega awesome Weldon fuel system.

And an uncut body.  No tubs, no nothing.  Just a cage that won't pass tech for the cars time.

Car has gone 5.76@121 on footbrake, transbrake hasn't been used yet.

Engine compartment, floors and trunk still with "EXCELLENT" factory paint.  CA car with factory rustproofing.

This thing is going to be a blast at the track, slow it down a bit and run 6.0 index.

The fuel bill is going to suck though.

Looks like a beast! That's a lot of power for a relatively small engine NA. Must spin it pretty hard. Wonder what valvespring life will be like?

Peak power @8400

These things routinely go about 5 years on valve springs, depending on how its driven/raced.  PSI brand springs, about 740psi at full open.  .800" lift

Is there "art" in building an engine that will do 700+ HP? or is it just "grown up Legos" with a bigger checkbook?  (either this  or private pilots license, ill fly one way or another...).

And what would I be looking at for a bill to build a 700+ HP v8, I'm partial to NA so "coyote and super charger with LOTS of boost" isnt ideal.
