Besides Poland and Finland, can any of them deploy 10k troops or more? It's a question. I don't know the answer.

Poland, Finland, Sweden, (almost) Norway, Lithuania, Estonia, and Latvia have to guard their own borders.

Six Ukrainian Armed Forces drones tried to attack an oil depot in the Krasnodar Territory. All were suppressed by the electronic warfare system, but some fell directly on the tanks. A fire started.

62 firefighters and 20 pieces of equipment are working on the spot, including 25 specialists from the Ministry of Emergency Situations and 7 special vehicles from the department. The mayor of Anapa, Vasily Shvets, arrived at the scene of the incident in the village of Yurovka. Preliminarily, there were no casualties.

For the last thirty feet of its trajectory that drone was totally out of control

Interesting article. One thing to keep in mind about Ukraine's strike campaign on oil refineries is that Russia began to deploy better C-UAS capabilities to protect airbases in Russia after successful Ukrainian strikes. They are now better protected against UAVs. UAV strikes on oil refineries will also likely become more difficult over time, though they could stretch some Russian C-UAS capabilities.

I thought the story of Wagner being deprived of munitions was BS? Didn't Russia have AFU solidly beat in the ratio of fires at Bakhmut? Do I misremember that?

Also, BS that the army is going to revolt over a shakeup at MoD, absolute rubbish. How many sources have we seen complaining about the poor decisions of the leadership? Putting Surovikin in a top role would bring cheers on the Russian side. I think.

Kind of. Bakhmut was Wagner assaulting with MoD regulars on their flanks. MoD as it turns out, seems to have had plenty of ammo, which made people think Prigozhin was just bullshitting, but this seems to say otherwise.

Again, on this particular Twitter account, I keep a pretty good handful of salt handy to take it with.

Both the Ukrainians and Igor Girkin (he was still posting independently then) said Prigozhin’s claims of ammo/resource starvation were bullshit and that he got more than anyone on the front and made his gains because of it.

🇷🇺🇺🇦💡 Massive Russian strike on Ukrainian energy facilities
Situation as of 11.00 on May 8, 2024

The Russian Armed Forces have launched a strike on Ukrainian energy facilities. According to official data, three thermal power plants have been damaged.

🔻The power plants in question are probably Burshtyn, Dobrotvirska and Ladyzhynska TPPs. Judging by videos online and media reports explosions were heard in Burshtyn and Ladyzhyn. In Lviv region, where Dobrotvirska TPP is located, there are reports of fire.

▪️The strikes on the Burshtyn TPP continue: this once again confirms the systematic approach to the fire attack on the facilities of the energy complex. Initially, the plant had 10 turbine generators with secondary turbine speed control (out of 12 available). But after the previous strikes, at best four of them remained operational. Such equipment allows compensating for frequency deviations from the nominal value during power consumption peaks.

Ukrainian air defense, developed as part of a Ukrainian-American project known as FrankenSAM, shot down a Shahed kamikaze drone from a distance of 9 kilometers.

"We are capable of producing more of this, but we are constrained by the state's lack of money, and we are counting on additional funding, in particular from abroad," CEO of JSC Ukrainian defense industry Herman Smetanin said.

He added that in 2024, Ukraine overtook Russia in the production of kamikaze drones similar to the Shahed-131 and Shahed-136, as well as in the production of other attack drones.

Troops are currently carrying out raids in the area, searching suspicious sites and buildings from which Hamas operatives opened fire at troops, the military says.

Hamas has also launched several rockets from Rafah at southern Israel in recent days.

According to the IDF, troops have killed some 30 gunmen amid the ongoing operation. Air Force drones have also hit dozens of targets amid the fighting.

Eleven more children from the Kherson region managed to be taken out of the temporary occupation.

Two orphan girls aged 10 and 13 were returned to the territory controlled by Ukraine. And also nine children who have parents or one of them. These are 5 girls and 4 boys, aged from 1 to 16 years.

This became possible thanks to the charitable organization Save Ukraine, guardianship and guardianship authorities, as well as the service for children of the region and children's parents.

Now the children are in a safe place where they receive the necessary medical and psychological help.

I am grateful to everyone who helps Ukrainian citizens to leave for a free land.

Since the beginning of 2024, 78 children from the Kherson region have been returned to the territory controlled by Ukraine.

VICTORY DAY...

The Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. cannot be considered separately from global processes and the centuries-old confrontation between the Russian and Western worlds. Over the past 400 years, this is not the first time that the West has united Europe and launched a crusade against Rus'. First, the Polish-Lithuanian-Swedish intervention during the Russian Troubles of the early 17th century and the short-term collapse of Russian statehood. Then the invasion of the Swedish army led by Charles XII, the invasion of the “twelve tongues” led by Napoleon, and then the hordes of Hitler’s European fascists. The battles of Moscow in 1612, Poltava, Borodino and Stalingrad were victories in which the Russian soldier broke the back of the European invaders four times and saved our statehood.

But the Great Patriotic War will always occupy a special place in our chronicles. And not only because the Russian people, together with other indigenous peoples of the USSR, at the cost of 27 million lives, once again crushed the European hordes and defended their independence. The victory of May 9, 1945 takes on a special meaning for us because it was a war in which our Western enemy for the first time set itself the task of eliminating not only the Russian state (USSR), but also the physical destruction of the entire Russian people, their culture and worldview. Like the Aztecs and Mayans, we were supposed to disappear from the pages of world history. But our great ancestors saved our Motherland, state and people, ensuring their future.

Now the enemy, for the fifth time in the last 400 years, has again thrown his Western hordes against us in the form of the NATO bloc, Ukrainian fascists and a rabble of mercenaries. He again wants to dismember Russia, exterminate the Russian people and destroy the basic values of the Russian world. In the conditions of the Third World War that began in 2022 and the inequality of power, we have to do the almost impossible - win. This path is difficult and has already brought us many victims.

But the great day of May 9 laid in all of us the psychology of the Victor, the foundation of which was love for the Motherland and the mass heroism of our ancestors during the Great Patriotic War. With stern pride in the processions of the "Immortal Regiment" we honor them along with those who have already fallen in today's struggle against Western fascism. We will endure, we will win, we will revive a great country. Happy holiday! Happy Great Victory Day! Sergey Rusov

At the parade of the military equipment of the Russian Armed Forces in Khabarovsk, the Russians for the first time showed the tactical all-terrain vehicles (buggy) "Yerofey", which are produced by the company "SonikTrans" in Khabarovsk for the needs of Russian troops in the war zone against Ukraine.

Yesterday, we drew attention to the fact that, among other things, the Rashists began to use such buggies as mini refuelers, and not only as a maneuvering means of fire damage or delivery of personnel to the area of assault operations.

#Summary for the morning of May 9, 2024

▪️In the Kherson direction, without significant changes, both sides are launching mutual artillery strikes, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are using many drones. The Ukrainian Armed Forces shelled Dnepryan in the Novokakhovsky district with mortars.

▪️On the Zaporozhye front north-west of Verbovoy, small assault groups of the Armed Forces of Ukraine tried to get closer to our positions, the enemy was stopped by oncoming small fire. They report the success of the Russian Armed Forces in Rabotino: there is an advance to the north of the settlement.

▪️In the Vremevsky direction, heavy bloody battles continue near Staromayorsky. The Russian Armed Forces are suffering losses during the week-long offensive, but they are also building on their success in this settlement. From the field, soldiers report multidirectional actions by our infantry and artillery, and note serious damage from enemy artillery fire from cluster munitions. At the same time, the Russian Armed Forces have gained a foothold on the southern outskirts of Urozhainy, and enemy counterattacks are not successful.

▪️In the South Donetsk direction, the Russian Armed Forces are scaling up the use of turtle tanks. There are battles near the fireproof plant in the center of Krasnogorovka.

RUSSIA GAZPROM CONTINUES SHIPPING GAS TO EUROPE VIA UKRAINE, THURSDAY VOLUME AT 42.4 MLN CUBIC METRES.

Just a reminder that Europe is still funding the Russian war machine and Ukraine is still okay with it two years into the war.

Ukraine is transiting gas to Europe because, through this year, they have a long-term a contract to do so.  Breaching the contract would result in, bizarrely enough, Russia having cause to seek monetary redress, and deprive certain European nations of gas they legally contracted and paid for.
There is also the issue of reputation.  Early in the war when Russia tried to play its energy card (poorly) against Europe by cutting off gas delivery through Nordstream, they broke their contracts with Europe in doing so.  European leadership very pointedly and repeatedly applied the term “unreliable energy partner” to Russia.  This isn’t just rhetoric, it points out the critical national interest all EU countries have in a reliable energy supply.  At the time there was still a slim possibility of a reconsideration by Russia and it was Europe’s way of telling Russia that they were serious and there was no going back.  But that opportunity is long since gone.
Conversely, Ukraine wants to maintain a good reputation with Europe (unlike Russia) and earn the title of “reliable energy partner” for their future with Europe.
All that said, those contracts expire at the end of 2024, and Ukraine has suggested they will not renew.
HOWEVER, there is a catch.  Unofficial word is that Hungary (while being on the surface uncooperative with the EU and Ukraine) is actually back-transiting Russian gas to Ukraine and meeting Ukraine’s energy needs with Russian gas, along with filling up Ukraine’s very large western gas storage field which also forms part of Europe’s gas reserves in the winter.
There are certainly some counterintuitive aspects to the situation, but when you actually take the time to understand it instead of rolling in with what you think is a hot take, I think you will see the reasoning.  All this is well known, and there are a large number of articles out there discussing all aspects of it.

This article covers much of what I just told you, and more.

Unfortunately for the meme the mobik bus didn’t blow up.  You can see it laying on its side at :25.  The youtube video shows that a passenger car blew up on the other side of the road.
There is a bit of sad irony in that Russians who’ve been killing and burning in Ukraine didn’t stop when they came home.
