People who leave a God damn voice-mail don't deserve human rights

Send a text like a considerate person

I will generally return missed calls from people I know or local area codes

funny, I always call back.  But.  I have my voicemail turned off

My thought is, if I see you have called, I will call you back.  Don't make me waste 3 minutes listening to some stupid reciting of what we are going to talk about when I call you.  Absolutely pointless.  And if you have something that could be addressed in a voicemail without speaking to me, well, you probably don't need to tell me in the first place.

funny how people have different takes on this

It's not 1990. No one leaves voice messages anymore except the elderly. If I do recieve one its an instant delete and I call them back voice.

Our company went so far as to even disable all voice mailboxes. If something important is required an email trace is always needed.  This means asking a caller to send an email instead if it's a request. Employee or non-employee.

Wouldn’t matter anyway. I haven’t listened to a voicemail in years.

If it’s important text me after the missed call… or better yet, just text me to begin with.

No

That’s kind of how I screen calls.  If it wasn’t important enough for them to leave a message it’s definitely not important enough for me to call them back.

I need that meme of Cap'n Picard face-palming, when my father leaves me a voicemail that says: "it's pops, call me".

I haven't checked voice mail in months it's mostly robo calls anyway.

My wife hasn't checked hers in years.  Her voicemail greeting still instructed callers to page her if their need is urgent.  She hasn't had a pager since the late 1990's.

I am surprised how many people call me back when I don't leave a voicemail.  In most cases I am in their contacts and they know me.

Not true.  Could be a doctor or dentist office.  Maybe the gun shop calling to tell you your background check came back and you can pick up your gun now.  The kid’s school, etc

I never answer unknown numbers, let VM screen them.  Annoying how places like my kids school has a ton of different numbers they call from so I can’t predict the numbers to put in my contacts.

people that know me, know it's better to text me before calling me.
Random callers don't get answered without a named ID; just initials, or just a number (they usually get blocked).
ID yourself as your legitimate business name or I'll never answer the phone or respond to you.

If you don’t leave a message I’m not gong to call you back.

Also, if I’m too busy/dirty/greasy to answer the phone, do NOT expect a reply if you text me! If I’m not in a position to talk on the phone then of course responding to a text is going to be 10x more of a problem.

When friends and family don't leave a voice mail, I just assume that they wanted to shoot the shit, but it wasn't important enough to leave a message.  I will call them back if I have the time and also feel like shooting the shit.  Any number I don't recognize gets ignored.

If I know the number I call them back. If I don't know the number I block it and delete the call.

Cuts way down on the telemarketers and robocalls

Even if it is not important, it is a nice courtesy if a message is left.

None of my friends leave messages. Neither do I. If we see a missed call, we call back.

I would prefer that people do not leave messages.

This is how I feel.  If it’s the wife she’ll immediately text me whatever it is.  Usually it’s “we need xxxx from the grocery”. Since I work from home I do the errands

"Just calling to say hi, nothing special, hope you are having a good day."
When they don't leave a message I assume it is that sort of thing.

I rarely get calls from people I know but unknown callers get blocked if they don't leave a message.  Most of the ones that do leave a message get blocked too because they are selling something.

This.  Who wants to get a VM?  Unless it's pretty important, like from my lawyer, I never listen to them at all and just delete.

If they are in my contacts list yes! If I don’t recognize the number no, if they leave a VM and I don’t recognize the number or the message is of no importance I will not call them back. If it’s Michael with a heavy Indian accent from the border patrol I still will not call them back.  They can eat shit.

That's different. If you're in sales, you're a slave to your phone, email, all of it. It's part of the job.
Don't know how you guys do it, I couldn't.

Voicemail and phone calls have become texts and video messages. Get with the times or be left behind.

This seems like a generational thing, put the joint down n answer the phone.

90% of all our company comms are now through Teams calls or Teams chat.
Even email is far less utilized unless you need a bunch of people on the thread that are outside your org.

Traditional calls/texts are very rare in our business now, but still prevalent in personal comms, although my
kids all use Messenger or whatsApp. The only one I really text with is my wife.

The whole communication landscape is changing rapidly.

With the amount of spoofed numbers, blocking them is pointless. Most scammers don’t leave a message.

I did have one scammer attempt to leave a VM. It must have been a trainee. Cute little Indian chick, sounded young.

Her:  “Hi. I’m calling from Wells Fargo Bank, reference number xxxxxxx………uh……..what do I do now?”

Some rando dude:  “What are you doing?”

Her:  “Leaving a voicemail.”

SRD:  “NO!  NO!  NOOOOO!!!!  HANG UP!!!!!  HANG UP!!!!!!”

100% this.  One caveat is that this only applies to known family and friends.  Outside of that, I pretty much don’t pick up or return any call without a detailed message.

No.  I usually don't call them back either way.
