So you overcame the challenges and made something pf yourself.  So did I.  I rented for 7 years then bought in 1999.  Never rented again.  Never took a dime of gov support even when I was out of work one four month period in my 30 year career.  I have funded my retirement and don't need SS.

I now own my home and a nice piece of land outright.  No mortgage.  No debt at all.  Zero.  Retired at 55 after being in the same 1% as you.  We're probably more alike than different.

Are you and I to blame for all the ills of this country?  No.  Are the boomers?  No.  If you want things to be better you start with yourself and go from there.  You don't post 60,000 times on a forum and make dumb jokes all day to improve your lot in life.  We aren't going to get out of the current mess by whining and throwing meme tantrums online.  I'm so sick of the unserious nature of the man-children I see all the time (not you, but people like the jake legs posting meaningless drivel here).  I will not feel sorry for anyone who acts that way.

So I take it your in favor of interest rate cuts in 2024? Inflation still running hot cause they won't stop spending. Let's make debt cheaper and just go full Zimbabwe?

Or is this more meaningless drivel that you apparently don't read.

I'm for much smaller and much less intrusive government which leads to less gov spending.  Artificially low interest rates for decades are part of the problem.

So why is there so much hostility towards those who speak out? Not speaking about you, obviously.

I think its because deep inside many of them realize their orange messiah spent just as much as the rest of the government clowns before him and bears plenty of responsibility in this mess.

Can't gore GD's sacred oxen Trump and real estate prices lest ye be shunned and given some type of snarky label.

Oh boy this thread hasn’t disappointed one bit. Boomers, millennials, renting, high real estate prices, economic trends, SS, and now Trump? Damn this is fun.

All of my friends in skilled trades jobs make easily 2x what my college grad friends make and they have zero college debt.
Also they earned wages for the 4 years the college students earned nothing.

I hate watches.

Ok ,I'm caught up.
Almost a boomer has to go to work, but I'm gonna finish this cheap ass coffee first.
Did you know that cheap coffee vs starbucks will make you a millionaire by age 40 ?

I don't know.  I see a difference between preaching to the choir, whining, and constructive discussion.  There isn't much of the latter around here (or in most online forae with open membership).

I think its because deep inside many of them realize their orange messiah spent just as much as the rest of the government clowns before him and bears plenty of responsibility in this mess.

Can't gore GD's sacred oxen Trump and real estate prices lest ye be shunned and given some type of snarky label.

I voted for him twice and will again.  First time I held my nose and hoped for the best.  No way Hillary was getting my vote and 3rd party protest votes are mostly pointless, especially in close elections.  Anyway, he surprised me after a few early stumbles.  Started trying to do what he stumped for, pyshed hard against the establishment, media, and permanent bureaucracy and exposed them for all to see.

He made some blunders, too.  Bump stocks, ignorant statements about red flag laws, and listening to Fauci and the other experts on Covid.  He wanted to open back up by April if you recall.  Fear ruled.

He's still a loudmouth.  He still doesn't know much about history.  He still can't control his ego when someone slights him.  That's how he came out stinking after the first debate in 2020.  A little self control would have allowed him to win over people, many of whom were seeing the biased "moderation."

Anyway, I'm a pragmatist.  I now vote for whomever will do the least damage.  POTUS can't fix everything.  We have to have some sanity and cohesion in Congress.  Also at the state and local level where a lot of damage is done (Dem governors drove the lock downs and tanked the economy, for example).

I plan to do what I was taught to do.  Keep on keepin' on.  Do my best, learn from my mistakes, support others with the same mindset.  Try to set an example.  Maybe I sucked at that in this thread.  Life goes on.

Both the Ds and Rs got together on eliminating bankruptcy for student loans.  Essentially, we reinvented debtor's prison. This chart shows the decoupling of tuition and inflation that caused:

Due to government policies, millions of people were lied to and encouraged to go to college when college added nothing to their value in the workplace.  Roughly half drop out with nothing to show for it but debt.

When Obama nationalized/socialized college debt, he knew that he was creating a class of debt slaves beholden to the immoral Dems in the swamp, who could use them to do their bidding in return for debt relief (Reps are not callous and evil enough to abuse the poor in this way - they are weak enough to go along with it though).

As the chart showed, college tuition has skyrocketed compared to inflation.  But these riches did NOT go to better courses, more profs, or more financial aid.  It went to legions of deep college swamp administrators, literally hundreds per campus of racist DEI mandarins who admitted millions of students that anyone with any common sense knew woudl not graduate.

See Sowell for a full explanation of this, he has many articles and videos on it.

While the stereotype that boomers can't use tech is pervasive, the stereotype that the younger XYZ's can't write with proper grammar, sentence structure, spelling and clarity.

This also apparently also holds true with verbal communications, face to face communication and conflict resolution, work ethic and inflated egos.

Which is why the over 60 demographic is currently valued more highly in business than anytime in decades.

Trillions of hours playing online games, watching cat videos and watching porn apparently has a cumulative effect on generations...

It comes down to ONE thing.

The government has passed hundreds of thousands of pages of new laws and regulations in the last fifty years, most making it harder to make a buck and the rest is due to giving away free stuff to their voter base and their cronies.

Because this is economically impossible, it has forced trillions in money printing.

That is all, simply change the government.

Good luck.

College costs have risen dramatically because the government and society at large have allowed it.

The costs can easily be reduced. Practically every mid-sized university in the country is spending literally tens of millions of dollars a year on salary for an entire cadre of "diversity" and more recently DEI related positions. In some places it's like the old Soviet military system of having a political officer in every unit, with some universities having a dedicated DEI staff in every division and at least one dedicated DEI position in each unit within the division. And every single one of those positions makes six figures minimum.

Most universities are organs of state government in some form or fashion and could easily be disciplined into more fiscal responsibility through legislation and budget. But that means ignoring them when they cry about having budgets reduced and not funding their lavishly expensive efforts at subverting our entire society into marxism.

This is true in the reddest states, too...not just California and New York. But the legislators bend over and grab their ankles when university presidents come lobbying instead of using their legislative and budget authority to hold them accountable and drive that shit out.

Almost every single major problem we have in America today started on university campuses. Higher ed can be made much more affordable AND deprogrammed from marxist bullshit at the same time, but nobody seems to have the guts.

I'm for much smaller and much less intrusive government which leads to less gov spending.  Artificially low interest rates for decades are part of the problem.

It’s not so much Trump. It’s the Greenspan put. 40 years of lowering interest rates and insane deficit spending generating fake wealth. Now the pied piper is calling.

Let's be clear, leftist voters of all generations voted in the idiots who have opened the border.

Conservatives of all generations voted for the idiots who promised to stop the open border but who have done very little to accomplish that.

What we tend to think of as “the 80s”  isn’t exactly Jan. 1, 1980 to Dec. 31, 1989.

Very early 80s we’re kind of still the 70s vibe wise.

It’s more like after Regan got in office, there was kick back against the left, we kicked some ass, etc. until around ‘93/94 when’d we got boomer Democrat Clinton, BHD, the AWB, etc.

Early 1980s to early 1990s may not be chronologically “The 1980s” -
But from a culturally vibe- that was it.

Getting beyond unrealistic and idealistc "hopes and dreams" and becoming a pragmatist was part of my awakening/transformation into an adult.  Until a person makes that mental shift it is very difficult to have a serious conversation in my experience.  Anyway, glad to see I'm not the only one here.

Were some things harder?
Sure, you had to spend hours in the library looking up, copying, etc, doing references for a pub and type it up. vs doing it online from home with a word processor with a magic cite function.
Were some things more expensive?
Sure, 35 years ago a 19 inch color TV and stereo VCR on sale were the equivalent of about 2200 bucks now.
And that rack stereo system with huge speakers, dual cassette, cd six packs, and turntable was about 2700 bucks in today’s dollars.  Vs 100 bucks a month now for some streaming and internet and a $1000 phone or iPad or a 500 dollar TV.

But that’s pretty much the shit that’s not important.  The soma/opium/entertainment/ etc.

I very much understand and don’t see myself as a victim.
I grew up rural poor.  I spent an enlistment in the military.
I got married.  My wife had her associates and three years of college.
I used the GI Bill, got a work study job, plus worked extra in the reserves.
Could I have gone to college for free?
Well, if I had been raised in a different background, yes, I would have known how and done it.
I turned down an offer of admission to West Point to get married.
I took an ROTC scholarship but they changed it and the requirements and I did not take it.
My wife worked full time and I did take some small student loans that were paid off.

But-
My tuition was 1/2 proportionally what it is there now.
My exact same apartment is now 2-3 times proportionally what it was then.
Buying a three year old all weather, low mileage, reliable vehicle for work is twice as much proportionally.
Our medical insurance was 1/2 proportionally what it is now.
I knew from talking to people that had been in my shoes 20-25 years previously they had things - same apartments, same school, etc. also proportionally better than I had.  And recognized “inflation” or whatever being off in those things.

I don’t see what’s so hard about recognizing someone now in the shoes I was in 35 years ago have rent, education, transportation, and insurance costs way beyond what I did when I was struggling.  And what a shitshow the increased travel, bigger debt, worse living, etc. must be for what they can afford.

After college I went back on active duty, and was selected for an assigned to an area with massive springboard potential and opportunity.  Plus life changing education and training,  my wife worked full time plus finished her B.S.
We bought a small SFH on a tiny lot with a tiny fenced yard 12 miles from work, with amazing schools, close to outdoor recreation, with zero crime, etc.  We worked crazy hours and were smart with our money.  That home was about 350K in today’s dollars.  Those are now 750K to 800K homes.  Someone in my exact shoes now that I was in then would have two to three times the commute, crappy schools, crime, etc, for 350K.  I was already working so many hours and things were already tight enough more vehicle and transportation expense, hours wasted commuting, etc. would have had a very negative impact.  I want some 25 year old young couple now to have things as good as I did then, if not better.

Around a decade later I bought the big wonderful dream house that was a fantastic place to raise a family.  The oldest was in grade school, one in preschool, etc.  My wife had been able to stop working and we did single income starting around 30 when we started our family.  It was around a 475K home.  That home just sold for 775K dollars.  I could not have remotely afforded it / my life if it had been 475K a couple of decades ago instead of 300K.  Even if my wife worked full time and we did the day care and all that crap.  Which would not have worked because I averaged about 6 months of each year away from home for the decade we lived there.  We would have lived someplace way shittier with crappier schools, more crime, etc, than we did.  For the same effort and accomplishment.

Around a decade ago, or even now, I could be fully retired/not working and have 130K coming in each year.  I decided to keep working 30-40 hours a week.  My federal income taxes are about the same as the 130K passive.  But…
Still working allowed me to give the wife her farm I always promised her since I took her away decades ago, be a little more rural, keep the kids in good schools, be away from crime, pay for their college, etc.  Now, the farm was about 1M in today’s dollars.  Plus I added about 400K in todays dollars in a new building, pool, etc.  I pay property tax on an assessment of 1.2M.  The house would sell for 1.8-2M.  So, the house proportionally would have been half again as much to buy a decade ago.
Under the current economy, I would never had had this home.  Someone a decade behind me with the exact same accomplishments, drive, potential, sacrifices, efforts, etc. can’t have what I have.

Things got progressively better for young Americans -
And for various reasons have slid back -
While trying to paint over it with cheaper, fancier crap that doesn’t matter-
While the real things that matter are being stolen.

I am absolutely not a communist.
But we have fucked over the younger generations.

IDK why anyone still has this generational debate. It was rational to try educating boomers back in the 2000s when the problem could have been fixed. If you're a millennial like me you've already struggled out of the hole boomers started our generation in. And if you're old, and you haven't admitted the economic facts of the last 50 years sometime in the last 20, no amount of argument can change a mind that broken.

And look at this one- beautiful rural area…

Oh- this one is great also- another beautiful rural spot-
And shows another depressed area that has gone to 40% of the local populace being illegal dairy, ag, poultry, etc. workers and also has a contaminated resovoir problem and whose highest hopes for jobs are a Walmart supply center or Amazon packing center going in 40 miles west near the interstate.

Can't gore GD's sacred oxen Trump and real estate prices lest ye be shunned and given some type of snarky label.

Quit being such a drama queen FFS.

Trump is hardly a "sacred oxen" here.

He was in charge for 4 fuckin' years. Even if he could have pulled off everything "MAGA" it would have been a drop in the bucket as far as correcting the decades of decline this country has suffered.

Every generation has had to work harder than the previous, but of course we can't use any common sense here in GD, there's always gotta be someone to blame: Boomers, milennials, women, etc, etc, etc.

As far as I can tell, most ARFCOMMERS have a conservative leaning and have voted R for the most part. You know, the politicians that the left says are going to do away with SS..... So WTF more are the anti SS people supposed to do?

Maybe if some of you fucktards spent less time bitching and blaming others on the interwebz for things they aren't responsible for, and got off your fat lazy asses and got involved a little more things might.........might start changing, even a little.

But it's waaay waayyy easier to piss and moan and blame others for YOUR shitty spending habits, laziness, and desire to be handed shit for nothing.

Wake the fuck up.

Care to expand on that thought? Got a link or two?

Very few boomers I know support illegal immigration, and it doesn't take much imagination to figure out the demographics of the ones that do.

I didn't go to college to work a minimum wage job.

And the youngsters voted for obungle and xiden.  So that's part of why they'll be renters their whole lives.

This is simply a problem stemming from too much government giving out loans to everyone.

Of course if you have 3x the number of students wanting to attend college, and them all getting loans to pay for it by uncle sugar, obviously the prices are going to go up.  Simple supply/demand.

If you want to be mad at someone, get mad at your government.
ALL OF OUR INFLATIONARY MONEY PROBLEMS ARE BECAUSE OF GOVERNMENT.

Man I love being told that simply because of the year I was born, I’m automatically a lazy shitbag with poor spending habits (even though you’ve never seen my budget and don’t know anything about me). Now hand me the spark plug socket, wires and plugs ain’t gonna change themselves.
