The post was exaggerated sarcasm, meaning we have sent them an insane amount of money and it needs to stop.

Yeah, Russia is making a big push this year.

We haven't seen anything yet.  The Russian onslaught this year will be intense, they're going to go all out to make the largest gains they can because I think after the U.S. election Putin is going to evaluate where he's at and he wants to be in a solid position at that point. Russians sat back in 2023 and played defense and now they're going to try their hand at offense.

I fully expect that this will be the bloodiest year of the war so far.  The carnage is going to be nightmarish and Ukraine is just Hell bent on holding every piece of ground no matter how unsupported their positions no matter whether they are holding on to  10 mile deep salients, no matter how little they built up their trench networks and defensive lines, Ukraine is convinced that for P.R. purposes they can't be seen as giving an inch.  So, it's Ukraine is full blown committed to a war of attrition and that's a war of attrition against a numerically superior Russia that doesn't give two #$%*s about the lives of its men. If Ukraine can't achieve something like a 10 to 1 ratio its hardly going to make a dent to the Russians and Putin or his general will not give a single care for it. Never underestimate the Russian people's apathy and resignation to their #$%&ty fate.

Ukraine will probably lose some ground, perhaps even a good chunk by year's end.  That's just to be expected if there is, as I believe there will be, a big push by the Russians.  We're goign to see essentially the reverse of what happened last year when Ukraine made some big gains during their offensive.  The key for Ukraine is to not minimize their loses and refit this year so that they can walk into next year with a good chance to retake ground. It is what it is though and it's not going to be pretty.

Ukraine is trying to build one of the largest modern militaries in the world in a record period of time during the middle of a war with a demographic decline and an economy in shambles. It's a tall order.  To make matters worse everyone in the world seems to be increasing military procurement right now and so the cost of military hardware is high right now.  For example, before the war the cost of a 155 artillery shell was around $1,500, but today it's around $4K a piece.   To complicate matters for Ukraine they don't have much in the way of standardization right now, their miltiary hardware is a hodge podge of different things from different manufacturers making logistics just about as complicated as possible with support personnel who have to learn from scratch how to service and maintain all of that stuff.  

The demographic decline is serious as well for both sides.  Average age of an infantry man on the front is around 45 years old.  Neither side is very good at rotating their units off the front and that kind of insane grind wears down even the toughest men, especially at that age.    Hope this carnage ends, if by some miracle Trump wins this fall it will, but if not than this war will go on easily into 2026.
