Plus add some amber led pods. Also skeeter screen can be used to dim the lights down. Yellow poly rope works good for yanking thing out. Gives just enough to allow some spring action. Tie the snow flap up in deep snow and that will help backing up. Also as soon as you get stuck do not spin the track. Pack the snow around the snogo and it will walk right out. Tripods every ten to twenty feet with reflectors. What is done out here to mark trails. Time for a superwide skandic! That would have been a blast. |

Phase 14: Off Grid Living in Remote Interior Alaska: Going out with a Bang in 2023! How we spent the new years holiday out there. Going to make the railings for the loft and maybe start cutting a trail to the creek/shooting range this weekend. Also got my ptarmigan I got out there back from the taxidermist. Going to hang it in the cabin. Attached File |

Heading out again tomorrow. Worried about the one spot on the trail. Hauling the same load. 2 dressers. We got stuck and messed around there for 2 hours. Coming out of the valley where the snow drifts. Might just tandem it from the get go.

Sometimes shortening the front limiter strap a hole or two will make a difference. Also leave the rear flipper unlocked. Makes backing up easier and especially when stuck. |

Idk that much will make a difference. Steep hill. With a 3ft verticals drift. Hard wind blown crust with sugar snow under it.

Trail had been ridden the most I’ve seen it this winter. So didn’t have any issues getting out. Mostly because of the 100 caribou tags they gave out.
Funny seems most that got them are from the valley. So driving 800 or so miles round trip for a hunt with a small chance of success. I haven’t seen a caribou in 2-3 months. Attached File Got all the dressers I picked up from the university of alaska for dirt cheap when they were redoing the dorms out there. Makes it a lot neater and more organized than totes. Got some life things going on with work, my parents, and a trip so will be a bit till I make it back out.
Next big priority is bear covers for the door/windows. Then won’t be too much time until the snow starts to melt. |

To anyone who's never buried a snowmobile (yes, snowmobile, not "snow machine or sled" like some of you weirdos call them ) in 3 or 4 feet of snow it's not on my recommended 'things to do' list.
Most of us that live in moderate winter areas that would travel to, say, the UP down have the experience and typically just grab a handful of throttle till it's REALLY buried. Got a SkiDoo MXZ700 so stuck in a drift in my yard once that I had to pull it out with my truck! Ripped the front bumper off in the process because I already snapped a ski loop yanking on it with my Rhino. Put me at the chiropractor for 3 months! That said, I give you guys who get real snow accumulations a lot of credit for your riding skills. |

Tried to ride down to my property from the main trail that hadn’t been ridden all winter. 5-6ft of powder. Ended up having to shovel/snow shoe down a 100ish meter path back to the main trail. Always say no better work out than deadlifting 500lbs out of a hole. |

Getting some materials to make bear covers for the windows. Probably going to prefab a lot at my house then bring them out. Had very warm temperatures lately. Hopefully not too late. |

Ice roads are closed from too much water in the plowed roads. I haven't even been out ptarmigan hunting and the wife only went pike fishing twice. |

OP, a big piece of plywood filled with nails laid on the deck in front of the door with a screw in each corner holding it in place on the deck is bear stopper #1, since they normally take the door off the hinges for entry...Every time a bear sacked one of our trapping cabins they have gone in the door and out a window, even with bear boards on the windows...Stopping them getting at the door has ended all bear problems, even if we leave the windows uncovered while gone....Since we went to the entryway boards we have not had a cabin sacked, thats been since 2006 or so....The window boards stop humans though.....Ours our hinged on top, use a rope and pull to open/hold open with some 3" screws in the lower corners to secure... We just bring a screw gun along to remove the screws when we get there.....
ETA: We have never put nails or screws in the window boards, only the door boards.... |
