Digging around found a weather station that gives current temperature not far from my cabin(the before mentioned predictions are from a station approximately 20 miles away.)

This is the current temperature from only a couple miles away. Attachment Attached File

I deer hunted in a few degrees colder than that from 1st light to dark for days one year in Saskatchewan.  Sitting in a plywood box with 2 1lb propane canisters and a tiny shitty heater.  Trees were popping like gunshots.  I was a little scared because it was a 30 minute ride on a quad (the guides drop you off and pick you up) from the nearest dirt road and another 30 minute drive in the truck after that to any type of civilization.  Each morning when the sound of the quad went away was as alone as I've ever felt.  Froze my ass off even wearing Northern Outfitters warmest system.  Never. Again.

Gonna make a weather call in the morning. Not going out at night with these temps to mitigate some risk. If it’s -20 or warmer tomorrow I think we’ll end up going.

Yeah yeah Rosta you’re a pussy my grandad walked to school in -120 barefoot both ways.

And I’d gladly go at any temp. But bringing my kids makes me be more cautious.

No reason to take unnecessary risks.  I don't really wanna spend time at my cabin at -20, plus all our outhouses are not in use these days

Nothing wrong with being cautious in cold weather.

Canadians make some sleds with a little houses/covers on them. Also ones that fit on flat sleds.
I want to build a copy.

One time my wife, kids and father inlaw went to a funeral by snogo.
Was -35f and blizzarding..
Made damn sure my kids had multiple sleeping bags to cover them in the sled.
Was a bit cool for them.

We used to take our kids(s young as 4&6 yrs old)  to camp, roughly 40 miles on sleds...ended up getting them the best gear we could buy, putting hand warmers in boots and gloves, duct taping both bibs to boots and jackets to gloves, then using electric shields on the full face helmets so they could see, just had the older one hang onto my mountain bar and my wife  used a kids harness to strap our daughter in front of her so the daughter went with the wife when ever she fell off the sled(don't ask), anyway, worked good even in -40 weather, kids always toasty warm and comfortable and the  electric shields kept the vision nice and clear....Of course when they got older they got their own sleds for x-mas when they were 10 and 12 years old...That really put them on top of the world...

Was a heck of a storm last week. All the snow was blown off the high ground and into drifts on the low ground. Lot of stuff outside by cabin blown around. Glad the cabin and outhouse survived.

Got down to -25 Saturday night. Was able to keep it +72 in the cabin. Did burn a lot of wood though. Attachment Attached File

Can see the smoke rising from my cabin here.

Was flat light, snowing, and windy on the way back. Glad I didn’t do either of the trips at night.

Easier to see at night than flat light.
One time I almost drove into a big hole with my eldest when it was flat light.

Get some headlight bulbs that are yellow/amber on low beam. Plus add some amber led pods.

Any concern with ice build up taking the stove pipe?  Do you have enough property to supply wood, are you going to have to haul in by truck in the summers, or can you cut locally on public land?  I've got a cabin in the middle of nowhere but not near as remote as yours.  Looks like an excellent place for solitude.

Night just would have been hard with no sign of the trail. That and the snow/wind today would have been hard to see very far. The wind had knocked over the tripod I built.

I think if I didn’t have kids the wife and I would be moving to the cabin full time sooner rather than later.

Hopefully not on the ice. Was kind of surprise it survived the 60+mph winds.

I got enough on the property we’ll be good for a few years.

There is a public wood cutting lot about 10 miles back on the highway for if/when I have to haul in wood.

I cut the middle band around our chimney pipe cover.

Was icing up too much and smoking out the house.

Most run toppers without the middle band or even a topper.

You will get use to traveling with seeing no trail.

Search and rescue drill holes then put the tripod legs in,pack with snow/ice and then pour water in the holes.

Leave the close wood and haul in loads.
That way when you really need wood that is close it will be there.

I am cutting pallets for firewood.

Woodshed is pretty empty.

Wanna come haul logs with trips over a hundred miles?
I need to learn the trail to the Yukon as most of the dry wood nearby is gone.

That last pic kinda reminds me of this time I hiked to an ice cave and the local dude told me not to worry about snowshoes or the trail cause it would be so well travelled I would have no issue.

Take and drill out the hitch to half inch.
Then take a old snogo shock and cut the shaft
Pull the bushing out and drill a pin hole.
Wire or tie rope the pins to the sleds.

I always carry at least three.

Yeah I got some proper ones. That was a “let me just stop at the store on the way out”.

Never occurred to me that a pin made specifically for that wouldn’t fit.
