Took out a new 43X MOS with a direct mount RMSc red dot. 15 shots in I could not keep my shots on the paper at 7 yards. Had another guy try and he showed me the broken glass. Attachment Attached File

Vacation time:
273 rounds fired off yesterday
390 today.

I would have shot more, but my AR was getting tired: It was starting to misfeed new rounds.
And I was getting dehydrated.

Contemplating tomorrow: I still have eight 30-round magazines fully loaded....

Shot a few mags through an M-16...

soon, hopefully.  Getting scope rings to mostly complete 2 of the last 3 rifles I am working on (suppressors are still in jail for both).  Other rifle still needs 2 sets of glass...  Need to reload for the rifle before that...  Ammo just became available for the 3rd to last pistol I got.  (I do have some ammo for the other 2).  I guess I could get ammo for some of the others - but I am pretty sure I have bullets, brass, dies, etc... but it is too damn hot for me to reload in my shop in the summer.

Honestly, it is too hot to shoot most of the day - I guess I need to get out as the ass crack of dawn and piss off my neighbors.  We have a "special" heat advisory for tomorrow.  Due to the humidity - the heat index will be 110.
---
Last gun (a pistol), am training with it now.  It will sound stupid, but it is for mounted shooting - so training with blanks.  Pistol before that was also for mounted shooting, but it will be suppressed (suppressor in jail as well).  Want to hung hogs from horseback this fall.  4 rifles ago (the one I need to reload for) is also suppressed for mounted hunting.  I am a long ass way from mounted long gun hunting though.  Pistol is easy - train the horse, train yourself.  But riding without reins is a lot more training the horse and yourself (honestly,  my horse probably already knows what to do, but does not trust me enough yet to do it-he was a roper, but was retired because he was too damn slow, I can deal with slow).  But if I get there - it will be right out of a Hollywood western - running down hogs and shooting them.

Spent little time today shooting 22 out to 3/400yds.  It’s so satisfying to shoot, cycle the bolt, then listen for the ring of the steel.

Also shot some 223 out of the 12” off a barrier out to 500.

I can't afford to go shoot, I am working a 2nd job and saving money on gas & ammo to be able to afford a new home for my wife and our baby, so that boomers can tell me I'm entitled for thinking maybe I should be able to get out once a month to practice my civic duty.

When I left home it had just finished raining half an hour or so earlier; streets were wet, although drying quickly.

Got to The Range and the grass was moist.
Set up and very soon the Sun stared shining
Little wind and when the Sun fully came out it was glorious!
Done and during the drive home a pesky little storm cloud rained on me for a few moments.
Clouds in the sky, but they are the Friendly and puffy kind.

Gonna take a nap then start cleaning my Semi-Noise maker

Pretty much.

Haven't been shooting this year (don't do indoor ranges, outdoor ranges suck, and it's way too dry to head out into the woods. Yeah, lots of excuses, must be a fud).

Oh well, off to buy something new!

Oh, wait... I live in WA.

Put 100 rounds through each of these today. Also found out the CMMG hates Bosnian M80 ball. I was lucky to get 5 MOA out of it.

Pretty horrible showing considering the Galil can pull off 2 MOA with Wolf 147 gr FMJ. Such is life

Next time I take the AR10 out I'll run some Razor Core through it and see how it does

We definitely need to work on his accuracy but I really just want to make sure he's safe, has fun, and listens to directions.
He's been coming to every match I've shot for the last 3 years.

Charlie's first match stage 4

I of course asked everyone there if it was ok if he shot.

Felt the need to shoot with irons. Forgot how fun it is to mortar 45-70 rounds in at 300+ yards with the Marlin. Snap shots and double taps with the .308 GSR were a hoot as well.

Finally got things more or less squared away.

Last time I had it out I was able to get the 3x AUG SF scope more-or-less zeroed, but ran out of ammo and time to get the Aimpoint done. Today I was able to set up targets at 36 yards and zero the Aimpoint, then move to the 100 yard line to confirm the SF's zero (it was off a bit, I must have been rushing things last time and just settled). I went out with around 200 rounds - Around 56-58 rounds of Hornady 75gr Interlock HD-SBR, and 150 rounds of commercial M855, either Federal or Winchester (can't remember).

With the can on, at 36 yards, POI had dropped maybe a half inch to an inch...nbd on the red dot. At 100 yard, it had dropped ~4 inches, with the M855. Again, not a big deal; it actually works out to be hitting at the same place as the dot below the crosshairs is on the 3x SF scope so it works out really well.

However, the Hornady...that had dropped around 6-8 inches. It was noticeably softer to shoot than the 855, and I bet over a chrono it would be a good bit slower than 855 out of the 16". Hornady said it was designed around 10.3-11.5" SBRs...it's probably pretty good at that role, especially with a can on one; I bet it shoots and cycles really well. Really not necessary for this gun though, so I'll relegate that stuff for my Mk18 clone thing.

Also vetted Magpul AUG mags...the factory Steyr mags are great in every way except one; if you seat it forcefully like an AR mag, it can pop the first round out. You can just grasp and seat AUG mags with no problem but muscle memory from ARs is hard to get over...Magpul mags don't seem to suffer from that problem, so I might wind up going all in on them. I've got a pile of Steyr mags...maybe I should sell some of them and turn them into Magpuls The only downside of Magpul mags is none of the Steyr loaders work with them, so it's back to loading mags one by one, and unloading them manually

Oh and I had forgotten how easy it is to knock the port cover on the left side off... I need to tape it on or glue it in or something.

Speaking of, that janky Gorilla tape brass deflector works just fine, even if it does look like a homeless guy's contribution
