A car I can take to the grocery store and then take to the track. I will never be the fastest on the track, but it doesn't matter because my smile will eclipse my shift times as I downshift to overtake a slow truck on my way to pick up a new gun.

There's a certain joy to driving, your favorite turn, your favorite shift that's eliminated through automation. My lazy shift example earlier leads to my point. Of course during boring driving manual is a pain, and also during track days it's inferior. What you guys are missing is the middle, which is the entire joy of driving. I'm stuck on a stupid main road and mildly inconvenienced by a manual transmission, but then I turn off that road and it's me and the car. There's no timer running, there's no longer traffic. Just me and the car. I love me and the car. Just me and the car. I love me and the car. This^. I love double clutching my 912 for corners. Especially after running a road a few times, you develop a rhythm and nail it every time. It feels really good. ETA: Also sounds good. Less wear on synchros as well. |
