Fastest doesn't mean pinnacle. GT2 is an amazing car, so is the Carrera GT.

But the soul of the 911 will always be a naturally aspirated, rear engine 6

You're 100% right.  But just to be pedantic I'm going to say its the GT3 RS.

Agreed. Lava Orange is the only better color.

I LOVE that Porsche listened to their customers and brought it back. That was an excellent move by them.

911 Gurus, what car would you recommend?

My needs: manual only and under $75k. I would love to find a Miami Blue one but that might be impossible, so Silver is my go to color.

I'm not an owner, nor am I trying to make the false argument the PDK is a bad transmission.

It's just not for me. Nor is the Taycon, the Turbo with it's gross AWD, or some faggot cabriolet.

HOWEVER. To be fair, TO BE FAIR....I would gladly drive any of them and have a great time. Except the convertible because that's for girls and limits a lot of important stuff.

Inconvenience is small compared to the joy you get from it, in my opinion. Let me give you an analogy. I bought a G43, it was really easy to carry. Light easy, fantastic.

But it made me lazy. With something that easy, I never carried full size guns anymore. It robbed me of my capabilities, capacity and magazine interchangeability because it was easy.

I bet it has as much power as my 78. Heck I'm only pushing 180-200hp.

The car only weighs 2300lbs though, so it's pretty good power to weight.

My father in law has a 78 baja bug that he just loves, and it does alright power wise.

That's the beauty of the 911 evolution, your 78 is air cooled and much smaller. (I know you know this, just bullshitting Porsche)

It's really neat how it's the same car but different. That's another thing I love about the 911. I mean shit some guys don't know there was not always a Turbo. I thought it was 76 but just looked it up and internet said 1975.

And others yet have seen the bastardazation that word.

I always disliked the Targa's, but the newer ones with the silver pillars are pretty sweet.

I love seeing the evolution of the car, and that they've stuck with the 911 for so long.

Heck my car is only 3 years younger than I am, and I certainly haven't evolved at all lol.

Yeah the turbo came out in 75, and was a real mean bastard to drive if you weren't paying attention. It bit a lot of guys in the ass and put them into the ditch or a tree ass first.

Nice car man, I like the color.

I've not driven a 944, but have kicked around buying a 944 turbo for a while.

They used to be a hell of a deal performance wise, but people are figuring out that they're quick and reliable little cars, and the value has gone up recently.

I'd prefer it for the track, but I'll probably never own two and have a track and a daily driver.

That's kinda where I'm coming from. I'm the guy that won't ever be a racer, never be a collector, but I'll own a 911 in the next decade. And it'll be a manual, because it will be the pinnacle of 911 beauty. A car I can take to the grocery store and then take to the track.

I will never be the fastest on the track, but it doesn't matter because my smile will eclipse my shift times as I downshift to overtake a slow truck on my way to pick up a new gun.

Nothing sad about that.

If I were an F1 driver or (relevant) a GT3 cup driver I would get a PDK. But I'm not.

There's a certain joy to driving, your favorite turn, your favorite shift that's eliminated through automation. My lazy shift example earlier leads to my point. Of course during boring driving manual is a pain, and also during track days it's inferior.

What you guys are missing is the middle, which is the entire joy of driving. I'm stuck on a stupid main road and mildly inconvenienced by a manual transmission, but then I turn off that road and it's me and the car. There's no timer running, there's no longer traffic. Just me and the car. I love me and the car.

This^. I love double clutching my 912 for corners. Especially after running a road a few times, you develop a rhythm and nail it every time. It feels really good. ETA: Also sounds good. Less wear on synchros as well.
