I haven’t read up on this thread in a while, but I’m wondering if anyone is finally making a code reader thingy that can turn off the auto start/stop feature of the 992 models?

It does have some coding options but I think you would really need to know what you’re doing in there. My seat (18ways) has a malfunction so I checked to see if was a readable code and while in there I browsed the other options like could I option a bigger rear tire so my speedo would read correctly and it doesn’t support that function on the 992T….bummer. |

I ended up getting the Autel MK808BT from Amazon on a Black Friday sale only because it was on sale and can reset the oil light in my 992 Targa GTS. I noticed it didn’t have much in the way of coding. It won’t even turn off the start/stop in a BMW like the Carly will. But for the price I paid, I’m not too bothered As for the asinine start/stop, I just switch to sport mode every time I start up |

It's basically muscle memory at this point, and I don't even think about it. |

I always warm mine up, so I go out to the garage, uncover her, unplug battery tender, start car, turn to sport. Come back out 10 min later and enjoy PS - I’m highly considering the 992S M-Engineering Tune! After the full Soul Exhaust that just installed, I need more. MTune can leave valves open 100% of the time. While also deleting start stop, allowing free rev in N, and do the “GTS” +40hp bump for on-track, and then a “street” up to 130HP tune to switch back and forth. Almost clicked button today, but I dunno….still have 2 years of warranty left. |

From our house, we have to immediately get on 50mph country roads, and within 4-5 minutes or so merge into 70mph freeway with no stop lights. I love hammering our roads, and can’t control myself so warming up the engine oil a bit from 60 to usually 100 degrees, then get in and drive for a mile or so gets to around 150. Then once it hits 150 I quit watching temps. Sounds crazy, but I have the process planned out perfectly so I can hammer down getting on the freeway. I’ve never let it sit and idle to 150. That would take for ever. |

Got myself an 896 last week for a steal from a friend.
New Boxster S brakes/suspension/bushings/etc. New seats. New clutch. New Tires. Upcoming: Paint shop to repair some scratches. Circuit Works exhaust next week. Changing MAF sensor as it's bad. Changing out starter for preventative maintenance. Tinting windows. Wheel spacers. Final step is wrapping the whole car in matte black Suntek PPF. I love this little thing. Once I'm done, I'll be eyeing a 996. Attached File Attached File |

I'm getting new tires today. This set lasted 12K miles.
Good news is that they were cheaper than I expected. Ordered a set off Tire Rack, and it was less than $2K - including insurance and roadside assistance. When I picked up a nail about four years ago (when the car was still pretty new) I got a new tire from the dealership, and they charged me right around a grand for ONE tire. Big mistake and lesson learned. |

When I had to replace my Cup 2s (heat cycled out, still plenty of tread) I shopped around - TireRack, Butler Tire (local specialty chain), even a friend in the group who works on cars, and the best price for 4 tires + mounting was the dealership (Hennessy) by more than a hundred dollars. I guess they don't want more of your business. |

I guess they don't want more of your business. Yeah, it turns out that the service department at this dealership were completely incompetent and dishonest assholes. Surprising for a Porsche dealership. Don't even get me started. It turns out that beitodestraffe (and his GF) also had very bad experiences with them. ETA: Even though they are less than 15 minutes from my house, I would drive over an hour to a dealership in MD to get it serviced, once I realized what incompetent crooks they were. I literally had it TOWED from them up to Maryland, because I was afraid of driving it after they had messed around with it, and wanted someone competent to check it to make sure the idiots hadn't seriously damaged something. Now that the car is out of warranty, there's actually a REALLY good (and highly recommended) independent shop that's about 20 minutes away, and I am very happy with them. They just told me to find the best deal on tires I could find (TireRack had a pretty good deal), and then have the tires shipped to their shop. Quick and easy and I save a lot! |

I use an independent guy (a lot of us porsche GT and exotic guys do) for oil changes, filters and brake flushes and let the dealer do anything that requires specialist knowledge or tools. You were definitely getting after it if you were breaking those free. I’ve still got my winter tires on and it’s easy to slide everywhere on those. I’m tempted to get a 3rd set of wheels and the hardest, cheapest, skinniest tires I can find for just messing around. I have the Conti extremecontact DWs right now, really confidence inspiring at speed, especially after going to 1” wider wheels but the winter tires are more fun at more moderate speeds. The car moves around a ton more. |
