What do you expect from this liberal piece of shit. Now its business as usual, and that is no business at all unless it comes to taking our freedoms away, and more taxes in the long run.

This is just wrong!!!

You can bet the gun control will start in earnest now.  The Socialists will control all the committees.

"Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle, D-SD, on the other hand, was spotted Tuesday evening strolling through the Capitol in what was described as a "clearly giddy" mood. Asked if he knew Jeffords' plan, Daschle said he hadn't had any conversations, but added in passing, "I hope you will all treat me with some respect now."

SPOKEN LIKE A TRUE JUNIOR TYRANT. Demanding respect from a populace that put HIM where he is. Politics is the one profession where I sway from my libertarian ways in my view of it's dynamics...it is one job you get BECAUSE OF OTHERS. And this little bitchboy has the nerve to flex his newfound muscles, given to him by a traitor, and repudiate someone for not showing the proper RESPECT? What was it your boys said down in florida, Tommy? "Spoken like a true commissar"?

Jesus H. Christ. ABC, NBC, CBS and CNN must have hardons right now, drawing up "PROFILE OF THE NEW SPEAKER" sidebars to go with tomorrow's evening news. Daschle is their new hero, a weak, snivelling, spineless archetype of a party without an issue. And it looks like now he's going to be Majority Leader.

CMON, ZELL MILLER!!! IT'S REPUBLICAN COUNTRY DOWN THERE!!! COME ON OVER, ROVER!

Nothing would make me happier, so we could watch Jeffords get bitchslapped like the little spineless traitor he is right back where he apparently belongs...Ask Trafficant how it works, Jim.

Message from "down there..."  No, it's not quite "Republican Country" here yet...  Wish it were so, but not quite yet.

The sad thing is he was just re-elected in 2000 election.  Voters in his home state can't do much for 5 yrs.

Isn't Bernie Sanders, the only 'Socialist' in the House, from Vermont? Then, that being the case, I doubt that Jeffords would pay a price even if his present term ended in 2002.

I guess we'll never hear the end of it from you guys who love to tell us all about the abject failure of the Republicans to do anything!

Yeah, vote Libertarian and stand with your nose pressed up against the glass window looking in
at the House, the Senate, and the White House.

Ya vote republican and get betrayed by people like jeffords and mccain. Oh yes and all of those pro-gun gop winners in kalifornia and n.y.

Face it man, the 2 party system has become nothing more than 1 big group of opportunists. They will do and say anything to get elected then pull a 180 if it benefits them PERSONALLY, the constituents be damned.

I can already see the perspective on this day from 100 years forward.

"And lo, with the coming of strife all vistas were open to me."

"I saw what was defeated and banished, the honorless and loveless, straining against the gate."

"I saw the lock turned by one entrusted to guard the prison."

"I saw the gates open wide to vomit forth the darkness."

"I saw Ragnarok unfold."

"And worst of all, I saw the hopes and dreams that lived in the last free nation, and in the hearts of those who would keep it so...."

"Turned to ash and cinders... By a single bolt of lightning"

"Armageddon has arrived."

Or something less dramatic, natch...

I hate to wish ill will on anybody, but I would not shed any tears if Jeffords had an ill-timed accident.   The man has no respect at all for the people who elected him.  If he wanted to switch, he could have done so before the last election.  The Republican party needs to do some house cleaning and weed out these traitors.  It may hurt them in the short term, but will pay off in the long run.

And we weren't betrayed by the likes of Perot, Buchanan, Ventura, and the other 'independents' as well?

And, apparently, THE PEOPLE OF NEW YORK AND CALIFORNIA LIKE GUN CONTROL AND POLITICIANS THAT SUPPORT GUN CONTROL.

Now, ain't that a b|tch?

So that's what it's all about; chairing a committee. He would sell out his party and the voters of his state so he can be top dog on a committee. Is it me, or is this guy a scum bag?

he and sanders (let's not forget leahey) were voted in by crunchy granola liberals who moved here from out-of-state. we are also privileged to have the only gay marriage laws in the country. shoved down our throats by those same liberals. there are a few conservatives here, and we own all the guns.

Give up on that puke zell miller. He will not leave the democraps.  he is not a conservative. he is a good liar and smart opportunist er, poilitician. We Georgians are a little more conservative in our national politicians, and zell is smart enough to appear to be conservative to ensure re-election. He tried to change the Georgia flag ten years ago, and yet left as the most popular governor in history b/c he got a lottery passed. Makes me throw up.

Yeah, it doesn't really matter, in my opinion.  Those "moderate" Republicans were really democrats in both heart and mind.  They just wear Republican clothing, but they think and act like Democrats.  So really, his "defection" is merely a change of name.  The person is still the same: a uselles liberal.

I'm not too worried. We need to kick out more of these RINO's(Republican in name only). They still need to go through the house and the president.
