Ladies and gentlemen, you are getting a glimpse of what society looks like when laws are not enforced. Neighbors in Bellevue may start resorting to vigilante justice. 🚨BREAKING: A woman gets arrested for removing squatters out of her $1,000,000 house in Queens, NY. Adel Andaloro inherited her family's home in Flushing, Queens after her parents passed away and was in the process of selling it when she noticed that someone illegally moved in. After she changed the lock the squatters came back and the police arrested her according to the NY landlord-tenant law. In New York, it's against the law to turn off the utilities, change the locks, and remove the belongings of someone who claims to be a tenant. Source : ABC7 |

Source : ABC7 How is that possible without a legal rental agreement? This why the Occupy movement got so full of themselves in New York. There were people who had come home from vacation, found that the Occupy movement had moved in while they were gone and started trashing the place due to the number of people who had moved in, and the owners had to get a lawyer and go through a legal process to get their own home back. New York's laws protecting tenants are apparently easy to abuse. That sort of thing is what makes acreage and a backhoe a great thing to have. |

They'll rent a house from someone that owns one or two rental properties, pay the deposit and first month, then quit paying rent. When the owner starts trying to kick them out, they'll claim the owner hasn't kept their end of the lease by maintaining the property (owner hasn't fixed various broken things - that they likely broke intentionally), then put a little effort into delaying things in the courts. If there are enough of them in a given area, they don't really have to do much to delay things in court, because there is already a backlog of cases or other people doing it. ETA: The topic of changing the rental laws ("renter's rights") has been in the news here, in the last few months, with democrats in the state legislature (fortunately, there aren't many of them) apparently trying to take it up as a cause to appeal to idiots and gain more seats in the legislature. Sob stories being brought out to show how badly this is impacting people's lives, when if you step back and look at the overall picture (and do a little reading between the lines), the root problems are that too many people have been moving here from shithole blue states (driving up rental rates and property values), and during the COVID shutdown there were people who took advantage of evictions being suspended and didn't pay their rent, but are now pissed that there were apparently consequences for doing that. |
