Pretty sure your life will be ruined if you shoot someone messing with a statue. Texans like to talk a big game about their gun laws, but protections for lawful use of force aren't as awesome as they lead you to believe.

TL;DR: Only shoot people in clear cases of self-defense please.

The biggest issue is at deadly force can only be used when it is ~~dreamed~~ deemed necessary. 9 times out of 10, the little fuckers will run like cockroaches if you spotlight them. Now on some of the other cases, deadly force can also be used to prevent the criminal from leaving the crime-but shooting a kid in the back because he was spray painting a statue is pushing it (need to reread to see if criminal mischief even allows stopping the fleeing criminal).

best case would be to confront theYutes and see if they attack you. Now that is probably a stupid thing to do, but a GoPro video of you strictly using self defense might keep you out of prison,
