I am thinking that I am going to have to find some pork bellies and make some ashes.

No but he alternative is to wait a year. If you leave it on pavement it'll dry faster.

Some of it is very dry but some of it was alive today.

Does the green wood give the smoke a bad flavor?

Bring it down here to NC.  It will be dry in a few weeks.

Nope.

Usually too much smoke is the problem with green wood.

It can, if it's really wet you really don't want to use it.

Tastes bad and unhealthy

I would take some of the coaster sized pieces and cut them 1/2" thick or so on a mitre saw.  Sand them.  Stain them (one side only).  Voila cool homemade coasters.

Use the stained side for hot drinks that don't sweat.  Flip them over and use the unstained side to catch water off drinks that sweat.

I made some out of a Bradford pear that fell in my yard.

Of course, smoke the rest with some pork of some sort.

Oh hell yes. You can also make smoking pipes.

Nah, there's nothing inherently bad about using unseasoned woods to smoke with.  More than a few good barbecue places use wet hickory in their pits.

No. I let my cut up plum tree season for a year and worked well in the smoker.
