I picked this thing up a while back and just didn't really think of taking it to the range because I enjoy shooting pistols so much. But busting clays is awesome. Now I'm looking at over-unders. What a money pit.

I also don't have the requisite strength to move the damn safety. I've read that this is a known issue, though. Does anyone have a solution?

Pick up an extended safety. More safety will accept more finger which will will give more push.

Look at Hickok45. He loves slugs.

Look at your target frame or backstop when you finish shooting...blown to smithereens.

As far as the safety put on a glove and click it back and forth for awhile. It'll loosen up.

Thanks for the tips on the safety. I'll try loosening it up, but if it doesn't work out after a while, I guess I'll place an order for the aftermarket one from S&J hardware. I definitely see the advantage of the cross bolt safety on other shotguns.

People can argue all day long about using them for self defense, but beyond all that, they sure are a fun gun. Big shells and big boom.

I have bought them, and then sold them after getting bored with them. But now, my wife and I both have 870s and I don't see us ever selling them.

If you're into skeet, sporting clays or bird hunting, there is a good chance you own at least 7 or 8 shotguns.

My Shockwave from PSA is in a holding pattern. My FFL's license expires on the first and PSAs policy is that it has to have over two weeks time left or they won't ship it. Hopefully they get their renewal early next week and we can get it shipped out.

Didn't need another shotgun, but wanted one of the Shockwaves just because.

Just don't do what Hickcock45 (tried to) do:  single hand one (he was dual wielding, actually); the safeties caught the webs between his thumbs and index fingers.

They are amazingly accurate/pattern well if you actually try to aim them (a la Eli).

Those are awesome pics of your scatter guns... everyone!

As for the Saiga... I remember a while back I was shooting skeet with some friends and there was a guy who was busting clays with a Saiga. Just super fast. They asked him to leave!

Absolutely. I was messing around after I converted mine when I looked down there was a mountain of spent shells. It was satisfying.

Congrats! As said, that's a great deal. How is the safety on yours? Stiff?

Rifled slugs are very fun. We were at an MG shoot and we got in to a topple the 55 gal. barrel contest at about 50-75 yard distance. Maybe a bit longer out. a bit.  Weebles wobble.

Eta: the trick is to hit the upper lip on the barrel's far side. It became more difficult when the lip disappeared.

I put a Choate M4 type side folder on my 870 and then added an ITT Shot Shock (disconn) on it. Cut recoil almost in half. Makes it so fun to shoot.
Here is who makes the version of the "shock" now.

Yes, it is a bit stiff pushing forward but easy pulling back, I don't think it'll be an issue.

I ordered some hockey stick grip tape on Amazon to wrap the grip and make it larger because it is too small for my hands.

Take it apart and check for burrs or if the little detent ball has slipped or is rough.

Polish as needed
