If there is room for them to move over and pass you, there was room for you to get over.
Stop being a left lane camper and get the fuck over. |

So many cars have had the opportunity to pass you on the right but yet it's their fault?
Get out of the passing lane sooner. |

Holy fucking shit. Almost every time I drive on the interstate I am reminded about the lack of common fucking sense that drivers have. Its as if once they are on the interstate they are Bobby Allison on the last lap of the Daytona 500. Here in Georgia, as I'm sure there is in many states, we have a simple fucking law. On a multi-lane highway THE LEFT LANE IS FOR PASSING. That's right fuckwits, YOU PASS ON THE LEFT AND TRAVEL IN THE RIGHT. I cannot count how many times some impatient fuck driving their leased BMW (or comparable) has tried to slip in the gap between me and the vehicle I just passed. Listen, I am GOING TO GET BACK OVER. Even if I don't, your ass can stay behind me until you have a reasonable time or distance has elapsed and it appears that I am NOT. I havn't got over yet because I'm not going to fucking cut off the driver I just passed. Yes, slack jaw, I'm going to give at least one or two car lengths before I get back over. It's the fucking law to leave space when passing a truck, btw. Which I'm sure you are fucking unaware of as your driving habits prove. Why in the hell are you so impatient? I'm going 75 and you are going 80. Whoopty do, you are going to be 5 miles ahead of me after an HOUR of driving. Holy shit that's really going to make a diffrence. So how about be a patient little snowflake and wait until I move back over before you try to pretend your in a james bond movie. It may save your or my life. I don't care to be pit maneuvered because you are an impatient fuck. The end. tdlr: don't pass somebody on the right when they havnt even had a chance to get back over View Quote Do you have any idea what the "passing on the right" prohibition is? Because I don't think you do. You don't understand the law, and what you are whining about is not illegal. |

If the car in your rearview mirror gets bigger or stays the same size while the cars in your windshield get smaller------>move to the right. |

Oh my lord. If Im going 75 mph I am going 110 feet per second. If the vehicle I am passing is going 70, they are going about 102 feet per second. Which means that If I leave, at a minimum, 2 of my truck lengths it is only going to take me FOUR SECONDS to clear the vehicle I am passing sufficiently and start to merge back over. 4 SECONDS. View Quote 5mph speed difference is 7.3 feet per second. A typical pickup truck is 19' long, a typical semi-truck is 60' long. Lets say you pull out to overtake 3 car lengths behind the semi (57') pass the semi (60'), then go two car lengths (38') before starting to pull over. That is 155' or just over 21 seconds that you are blocking faster traffic (plus however many seconds it takes you to leisurely move back over to the right lane). However if you were going to same speed as the people you are holding up there would be a 15mph speed difference between you and the semi and you would only be in the left lane for 7 seconds. |

If there is room for me to pass on the right, than there is a room for YOU on the right. When I am driving 12+ hours to a job 5 mph slower equals an extra hour.
In this equation it's not me that's the asshole. FYI some states are so tired of this BS they issue tickets to people who camp in the left hand lane. |

4 Seconds? Your math skills suck as bad as your driving skills apparently. Average 18 wheeler: 80 feet Average pickup: 20 feet You'll move into the passing lane with 2 truck lengths to go from the bumper of the 18 wheeler: 40 feet The 18 wheeler is 80 feet long (120 feet to cover so far) You wait another 2 truck lengths before getting back over (another 40 feet, now at 160 feet of total "passing") Closure rate is 7.333 ft/sec, which means it takes you 22 seconds to execute the pass, not 4 seconds. In 22 seconds, you've covered 2,420 feet, just shy of 1/2 mile. Now let's assume you are passing the average sedan (15 feet): Still have the same passing buffer (40+40), so now a total of 95 feet of "passing" at 7.333 ft/sec, which means nearly 13 seconds to pass the average sedan with a 5 MPH differential. It's taking 3 times longer to execute the pass than you think it is. If everyone else is passing at 80 to 85 then why not accelerate to pass the semi instead of carrying on at 75? or just wait until there is enough space in the left lane for you to slowly overtake the semi without impeding other drivers? |
|
Well here goes my opinion on this shit show.
1) If you are going to pass at 5 mph over the other person wait for a clearing where someone isn't passing at 10-15+ over them 2) Signal you're getting back over - bitching someone passed you when you were trying to get over and you didn't signal is retarded. How would they know? 3) From the other persons perspective its annoying as fuck when your cruising at 80-85 then some dick passes a truck directly infront of you at 10-15 mph less than you and takes their sweet time. Road is open behind you but they made sure they were there before you. 2 sides and all dont get your panties worked up OP Either signal and let them know or chill the fuck out. |

Simply not true. But whatever you say. I try to follow the left lane/right lane rules as best as I can. The entire nature of this thread are the people who pass on the right before I have a chance to get over. It's not like it happens every time I drive, but it happens enough that it pisses me off because it is so dangerous yet so preventable. Not only is the car cutting off the vehicle that we both just passed, there is then the risk that as they try to zoom around me on the right so quickly, we end up hitting each other. You are conflating left lane camping, which yes is a pain the pass and then passing on the right is no big deal; with right lane passing before the vehicle ahead of you has had a chance to get back over. Pretty much this.... There is what everyone is supposed to do to keep traffic flowing safely and there is what actually works in a world full of self-indulgent retards who couldn't recite any three basic highway rules. My rules are: Keep your head on a swivel and maintain constant awareness of everything in sight, both front and rear. I calculate my moves and reactions for benefit myself and the drivers around me and to a much lesser extent, for the ever present inattentive or otherwise idiotic drivers whose behavior is a detriment to the smooth and safe flow of traffic. View Quote Mine are pretty simple too. Pay attention. Don't impede my movement and I won't impede yours. Amazing how far you can drive without pissing anyone off when you follow them. Scary isn't it, a bunch of stupid replies. I agree with OP, Atlanta area drivers are terrible. What he described doesn't just happen on a 2 lane stretch of interstate and has nothing to do with driving too slow.
