Cop Shot by Dropped, Holstered Pistol Sues Gunmaker Sig Sauer
Greg Land, The Connecticut Law Tribune August 7, 2017 | 0 Comments Print Reprint Email Linkedin Facebook TwitterGoogle+ police-gun A Stamford police officer has sued gunmaker Sig Sauer over injuries he suffered when his holstered P320 pistol discharged and hit him in the leg after he dropped it in a parking lot. According to the complaint filed Aug. 4 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut, officer Vincent Sheperis dropped his holstered department-issued handgun while loading equipment into the back of his car in January. The gun fired when it hit the pavement, and the bullet entered beneath his left knee and lodged to the side "with the round protruding from his leg." Sheperis, a 34-year-old member of the department's Special Response Team, underwent multiple surgeries and is back on light duty, although more surgeries may be required, according to his attorney, Jeffrey Bagnell of Westport. ---------------------More at link. How awesome would it be if Glock takes the army contract due to Sig sucking.

The Dallas police angle of this story has been widely covered here. However, the number of pistols is very small......less than 80.

I've got close to 8,000 rounds through my 320.
I carry it every day. I am not going to get rid of it. I have not lost confidence in it. I am not going stop carrying it daily. Would not trade it for a Glock. Also...if I drop it and it shoots me then I will bear the responsibility. |

Sooooo will there be the FDE version back in stock again soon and cheaper?

If it came out tomorrow Glock, or M&P could fire when dropped I would quit carrying mine. It's a defensive tool. It's not my wife. I don't have to defend it if it turns out its flawed. I'm free to buy or carry another kind of pistol for whatever reason I want without feeling guilty about it.
You choosing to buy or carry a pistol that you find out later flawed is not a personal judgement on you. It doesn't mean YOU are flawed. Hell, even the US Army didn't catch it. The P320 is an awesome shooting pistol, I almost bought one last week. I probably will buy one when this gets fixed. But saying, "No problem here! I just won't ever drop it! It can come with a manual safety so there ISNT a problem!" Is pure classic cognitive dissonance. It's OK to say, "Damn, yeah that is a problem, hope they fix it soon." |

View Quote Im not denying guys who have dropped their 320s have gotten them to go bang when they hit the ground. That isn't going to make me go sell mine or stop using it. And anyone who does is a knee jerking fool who just wanted an excuse to get rid of theirs to begin with. |

The stupidity of the statement "Well just don't drop it" for a service issue pistol that will see combat is beyond me. Some seem to think pistols are only ever on a range or in a safe. In the other thread some DA was saying well in 20 something years I have never seen a Marine drop a pistol or rifle on a range during qualification. Ohh really, your vast range experience obviously does not translate to understanding the realities of combat. View Quote |
