In the last few years it's been pretty tough to find a good character movie with good dialog.

I actually liked Rogue One, and I think my favorite all-time is Best Years of our Lives.

Good call, that's the S of SCW, so I'm pretty partial to it.  I didn't understand the real drama of the show, I just liked the big fistfight at the end.

Yeah, I remember realizing that the wife actually had the hots for Shane a little bit, and the husband knew it.  Then Shane realizes he's right in the middle and has to go, but needs to stay.  Complex show.

Rogue One really caught me by surprise.  I was not expecting that.  Because of that departure from the normal, I'm really looking forward to the next "off year" Star Wars film.

If they ever remake it,
They'll probably have Shane as a gay with the dad trying to suck his dick

Yep.  I actually watched the original a while back with my son who was 5 at the time and was surprised at how bad the dialogue and characters were.  RO was truely well done, those guys threw it all on the line and it would have been wrong for them to make it home.

Kinda like the end of Gladiator a few years back, he needed to die at the end and he did.

Pay attention to character actions, dialogue, plot, and story and you'll see a lot of things in movies/video games/TV shows/novels/comics.

Uh...

No development in Rey through the show?  She never transcends from a selfish juvenile to someone who see the true nature of her father (a character loaded with complexities) and throws all she is and has after the same effort?

How about all the other members of her final team?  They were established throughout the show as men who carried massive guilt for all the bad things they've done for a good end.  They walked onto that last transport knowing it was a one-way trip, but they were desperate for a 'clean' and noble cause for their final act.  Not only that, but they understood that the only way it would work was to go out fighting to the end.

Even all the supporting characters were developed.  We knew each of their motives, fears and perspectives.  Even the empire leaders and scientists.

Please describe the motives of Han Solo.  It's pretty weak.

I don't know about best, but John Wick has a kind of forcefully oblique character development. It's all in the "past" but it juxtaposes the ruthless, cold blooded, mercenary with the loving husband and dog owner and it shows his break back to his past life brought on by a violent incident.

Also he shoots faces.
