I notice she calls the late fees owed "obscene" - pay your bills cunt.
The late fees will be the first thing they try to duck. Here comes an 60 cent on the dollar principal only "negotiation" for the vendors they owe. . |

So when the Chicago teacher's union strikes in the Fall are they going to tell them to pound sand or give them another raise?

Mike Madigan should be in jail. He runs the state house; he has his fingerprint on everything ruinous in our state. Why its legal to be a member of our legislature and to be able to represent landowners in appealing the property taxes they must pay to fund his agenda is beyond me. I'm not some pollyanna either; I've been here my whole life and in my job I see what happens when you strike out at the powers that be. He has his legislative district under an iron grip, so I doubt he will lose any upcoming elections. Just a shame. The electorate really is stupid sometimes.

Completely amazing.
There was a 5% income tax that went away, which likely provided a good chunk of funding, and the state just kept on spending money. |

Quoted:Coming soon to a California near you. View Quote There's 20 states in worse shape between CA and IL but they don't matter. What's keeping CA afloat is massive agricultural and manufacturing that goes on there. Despite the federal governments best efforts, destroying billions of dollars worth of crops, the state is still number one in agriculture revenue by a pretty good factor. Where other states get huge federal funding to support their agriculture business CA gets about 4% of what it should based on revenue. Manufacturers are being driven out of the state daily yet the state continues to be the biggest manufacturer by revenue. With that much business it's easy to throw money at the problem. CA's surplus of a few billion a year gets spent very quickly where more money should be put into their "rainy day" fund. |

Running out of other people's money are we?
Obvious solution is obvious, raise state income tax to 25% and raise state sales tax to 25%, then they'll be swimming in money. |

I like the city state idea, as long as they don't get any senators. Keep the reps for population but no way could we give each of these places senators.

Illinois has been hosed for years. It's hosed today, tomorrow, will be on Friday and the coming weeks.
The only hope is to clean house in Springfield. Starting with Madigan, his daughter and the rest of them and start over. Pushing Chicago off into Lake Michigan would be incredibly beneficial as well. Or at least make it it's own district that it has to fund on it's own. |

Is the music really going to stop? I didn't think so. Or look at it another way - you live within your means, save for a rainy day, don't spend extravagantly or on luxuries, etc. Your neighbor does not. He gets bailed out and there are no repercussions, and you end up paying for it through higher taxes on your labor and the goods you purchase. How long do you think it will be before everyone says FUCK IT and blows their budget because there are no negative consequences. |

Great, more taxes, I'm sure that will improve the negative growth rate our state has been experiencing for going on four years now. All the folks with income leave, the welfare rats stay and it doesn't matter if you increase tax rates to 100% because nobody left has money, but I bet all the surrounding states are loving the extra productive taxpayers.

Or you know, you could reform the system like we did across the lake
Our Dems were screaming bloody murder about this. They got steamrolled. Some R's were allowed to vote no for political purposes, which is disappointing. Michigan Pension Reform Bill Passes, Headed to Governor. If the assets in the new system’s pension fund fall below 85 percent of the amount actuaries determine it should have for two years in a row, the system will be closed to new employees. This virtually guarantees that managers of new system won't repeat errors that allowed the old system to fall $29.1 billion behind the amount it should hold.
Under the new system, school employees hired after Feb. 1, 2018, can choose to receive employer contributions to an employee-owned, tax-deferred 401(k) account. Everyone will get an amount equal to 4 percent of salary, and the state will also match up to 3 percent of employee contributions. View Quote |

Somebody explain to me how Illinois' situation is any different than the federal gubermint's situation. Both have spent funds they have no way of paying back...yet they just keep on spending and somebody keeps fronting them more credit. Incidentally, they're 'Illini' and not 'Illinoisians'. I guess you get what you pay for. Same reason Greece, Italy, and Spain have problems when the EU in aggregate can print Euros. Eventually it all falls down by way of wheelbarrows full of cash. Not having a printing press means the states fall first. Nation (or EU) takes a little more time. This is unlikely because, hell why not everyone do it? Stick it to the Feds. It would be unpopular to the rest of the states, the feds have their own debt issues, it would set an ugly precedent, PDJT dgaf about IL like FBHO did, on an on. Very little in it for the feds to bailout, without even discussing the constitutionality on state and federal levels. So the state is left with two options. Raise taxes and/or lower expenditures. If the state has a bunch of socialist public industry, they'll go for taxes. If they don't, they lower expenses. Funny thing is, they wouldn't have the problem in the first place without lots of public industry. Budget would be bearable. |

I can tell you don't understand how things are run in Illinois. You could raise income, sales, and property tax by 100% each and it wouldn't matter. Sad thin is that Illinois has some really beautiful areas in it and lots of conservative people, its just the shithole's of Chicago and Springfield that ruin the whole state
