View Quote I don't see what law he broke. At least not a US law, which is all ICE should be trying to enforce. Granted, it's probably going to thugs across the border, but we should enforce laws, not assumed intent. |

On June 17, 2017, at approximately 2:00 p.m., Homeland Security Investigations…agents received information that 7,000 rounds of Aguila .38 Super ammunition had been purchased in Phoenix by an individual who was driving a dark green Chevrolet Suburban,” wrote ATF Special Agent Robert Kilcoyne in a criminal complaint.
Cool so 7k in ammo triggers a federal investigation? |

I had a llama 1911 chambered in 38 super, one of the very few guns I regret selling
I got rid of it because of ammo availability, this was like 15 years ago or so, guess I never thought of going to meheeco for ammo. |

I didn't know that USPSA Open Division was that big in Mexico.

The ATF is just mad that someone is trying to cut in on their business.

Something "smells fishy," I think the media has left out some very important details. The ammo is legal on both sides of the border.

I think .38 Super is an interesting round. Never fired one, but I do have one cartridge in my ammo collection. I wouldnt not own one if I came across a good deal on one, if that makes sense. It reminds me of a 9mm magnum.

.38 Super was carried in the South West for many years.
You can see some really nice Colt .38 Super 1911's at the Texas Ranger Museum in Waco. |

I should have known we would have a law for that. Silly me, thinking we had a 'free' society. View Quote our troops in their country or have those people use those arms against our Border Patrol and other Citizens like they did during Fast and Furious. |

Not Illegal to buy the ammo. Just gives reasonable suspicion.
Try to cross the border and your toast. |

ITAR controlled item I guess? I talked to a few old timers at the Walmart in WA and they said that ever since ITAR came into place, they lost a ton of business in terms of ammo sales.
I guess it has it's good and bad. |

Mexico bans "military calibers," so .38 Super is a natural alternative.

I always thought it was interesting also. When I was first getting into guns, I went to a gun shop hoping to order a kimber custom II in .38 super, the employees looked at me like I was crazy and talked me out of it. Oh well View Quote |

Granted, it's probably going to thugs across the border, but we should enforce laws, not assumed intent. That's because you obviously didn't read the article and click the link to the affidavit for warrant of arrest. The law that he broke, which by the way IS A US LAW (contrary to what you wrote) is: 18 U.S. Code § 554 - Smuggling goods from the United States (a) In General.— Whoever fraudulently or knowingly exports or sends from the United States, or attempts to export or send from the United States, any merchandise, article, or object contrary to any law or regulation of the United States, or receives, conceals, buys, sells, or in any manner facilitates the transportation, concealment, or sale of such merchandise, article or object, prior to exportation, knowing the same to be intended for exportation contrary to any law or regulation of the United States, shall be fined under this title, imprisoned not more than 10 years, or both. So, ICE/HSI is enforcing US law. |
