Used to do geocaching with my kids. Looks like a really crappy geocache. We found worse looking ones. Sometimes they were big pill bottles or whatever.
Also, is it in the grave yard or near the boundary? I seem to recall that you could not hide them in a cemetery, but you could on the boundary. |

If that is a geocache, then I am gonna be the guy that says geocachers are fucking idiots. Don't go around laying unmarked, suspicious packages on property that you don't own. We have had more than one issue in the USA of IEDs being used against us. What do they fucking think non-geocachers are going to thing when they find that. Despite popular belief, the world is NOT one person's individual playground. You want one of those? Buy some land. View Quote And not like ROPers like to target funerals or anything, so again... fucking morons. |

My onlyconcern now, is the vault has been suspended over the hole for a lot longer than intened.
Ideally the ground will hold indefinitely, However, it's 2600 pounds on four corners on semi soft ground. |

If they send out a little robot, make a video, I wanna see it if blows up

Good call OP.
That thing looks fishy for sure. Who was being buried there today? Anyone got hate for family? |

LOL a couple of years ago the bomb squad got called out to a state park near here because somebody panicked over a geocache.

So was it confirmed that's what it was then? A geocache? View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Holy delayed doubletap batman. |

I just want to say, in my defense... Geocaching is a concept I just learned of 20 minutes ago. At least "BREAKING" isn't in my title. View Quote You did the right thing. |

Exactly. It looks like a bottle with ball bearings in it wrapped in duct tape and GD expects normal people to think nerd game 2% of the population knows about. You did the right thing. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Well, what ever it is. They are definitely taking their time with it.

I hesitate to ask the question, but here goes - Are there any protections with geocaching to prevent someone from putting a new "cache" out there for people to find, but with intent to harm?
Shorter version - What if it IS a geocache, but also an IED? |

Why doesn't someone contact the cache owner and have them provide a description of the cache they left?
|
|
I'd bet it's not a geocache. They are never off by a quarter mile on coordinates, they are usually hard to find even when you are standing on top of them, they aren't allowed on private property without the owners permission. They should be marked.

Odds are that it's nothing.....but I don't think I would have picked it up either. I'd say you did the right thing....I too learned about geocaching in this thread....

Has anyone tried poking it with a stick or perhaps throwing a rock at it?

And maybe go to the exact coordinates and look for the cache that's listed, if found then you be sure what YOU found is F*cky...

I'll bet there are plenty of uniforms standing around with their thumbs up their asses right now...
Have one escort the OP over and look around... ETA, after all the REAL cache is 1/4 mile away, right? |

Do other caches look like that? Doesn't exactly have a friendly appearance.

Anyone else notice the screw screwed into the bottom of the bottle? I wouldn't have picked that fucker up either.
|
|

nevermind. Though if I can think of it, damn sure someone else already has.

Well....my journey ends here.
Bomb squad is 90 minutes away and I'm being called back to base. I'll be back around 9 am tomorrow for round 2 of the funeral. I shall give updates then. Sorry all, no explosions....yet. |
